But Luka did break records in that run… he had the three worst playoff series in NBA history for blow-by percentage in three straight series (breaking his own record twice!) The expected value of a Luka 1:1 defensive matchup hovering at 1.6 points per possession last post season 👍
@@DustySides oooh u one of those guys, now talk about him averaging 30+ / 9 / 8 in the playoffs. 35 against the clippers as a one man army. u gonna have fun with luka the coming years lmao i hope u aint no mavs fan
He averaged 4 turnovers and 5 assists (net 1 assist per game) in the finals, jacking up threes at an EV of 0.8 pts per possession while giving up 1.6 pts per possession. You’re giving up twice as many points as you score, but you still think that’s good. What do you expect when the avg adult american reads a 5th grade level tho, right?
I agree. I also noticed that in the past week or so, PJ was bringing the ball up the court more, becoming more of a playmaker. I thought we were showcasing Gafford for a trade, but i am so glade we kept our bigs to pair with AD. I loved Luka's numbers, but defense wins championships.
Everybody hating on Nico but simple fact is Luka hasn't been Luka this year. It seems obvious that his commitment both physically and to the team going into the off-season was doubted. Nick pulled the trigger to get a superstar and the piece no one is talking about in max Christy who is a stud! This will be viewed as another genius move by Nico by end of next season IMO! MFFL!!!
Luka has been ran into the ground carrying that team on his back and he is allowed to have a bad season. At 25, a superstar, franchise player, who just took you to the NBA finals, you give up on him??? Embiid never went past the second round and he’s still in Philly. GMs job is to built the team around his best player and make sure they are in the position to fight for the chip on regular basis. Who the hell do you think you are with this team, 2002 Lakers? This Dallas team will not win a championship and will fall apart within the next year and a half. West is too good with so many young teams on the horizon and enough experienced teams like the Clippers and the Nuggets who can still ball. Nah, this was a flop from a lazy and sleazy GM whose ego couldn’t tolerate Luka. I really feel bad for the Mavs.
Chemistry is everything. They already know how emotional Kyrie is and has tendencies to throw tantrums yet they trade Morris and Luka. Gafford and Wash and lively are at their best because of Luka playmaking , now they don't even want to play. Their trust for the management has been broken thinking that if Luka got traded after what he has done for the team, then how about them?
Anyone who says Mavs won this trade (on a team stand point) should rethink their position. they are 1 injury away in getting booted out of the play in.
@@backyardbuckets829 Are you even sure kyrie would pick up he's player option? No big free agent would ever come to Dallas after what they did to Luka
I already thought that people are really, really undervaluing what the mavs did here in the short term. They'll be crazy, especially defensively, for the next 2-3 seasons for sure. After that though, what's left? A 36-year-old Kyrie and a 35-year-old AD, both of whom are relatively injury-prone? That's 100% less valuable than a 28-year-old prime Luka Doncic, no matter how bad he is defensively. Steph ain't great defensively, and he definitely wasn't during his best offensive years. They won 4 championships with him though because they invested in him and built a defensive juggernaut around him and his offense. The mavs took the easy way out here because they don't have confidence in their ability to build around Luka. They were already good defensively this year even WITH Luka, and were actually BETTER defensively before he got injured. Long-term this makes no sense and even short term you need to squint at it to make it look good. I don't think the mavs actually end up winning anything or even making it to the finals thanks to the OKC thunder anyways.
On paper this is not a bad trade in hindsight, except the fact Mavs should have gotten more draft capital. In reality the chemistry will not be there, Luka was the glue guy, now that he's gone, this team will achieve nothing.
Mav's fans gonna realize how good AD and invaluable he is "when healthy" and he has been healthy for 2 years missing only a few games even Christie have so much potential, people saying Reaves or Knecht would have been better instead of Christie, go look up Christie games when he's been a starter to the lakers, he's a legit 3 and D player unlike Reaves and Knecht
Good stuff but Luka more then his stats. He is the offensive and is a vortex to the defense and that is how this team is currently constructed for Luka. Can you win a championship with AD sure not sure he can with this current roster. The question is does AD have enough prime left? I worry there is not enough play makers. Spencer when over used a ball handler it’s turn over city same with hardy. So mavs will have to rely on exum and Kyrie primary to play make and get all these weapons the rock.. as a die hard mavs fan I hope I’m wrong but the window for sure is only this season and the next if Kyrie opts in….this year is a stretch at best given the injuries and the time left to gel as a team.
How this a genius nba is an offense game now yes the defense is high but the offense sucks. Dallas was successful because of the 2 guard combo luka and Bronson bring them to wcf. kyrie and luka bring them to the finals. If this is old school basketball this is genius but this is not.
They have a 2 man combo with him and AD still. Not only that teams are gonna have to double team both of them still so teammates are still gonna be very open. Davis can play the 5 when they want 5 shooters on the court. They have size, defense, and players who have proved that they are more than capable to score.
Dallas wasn’t successful. You obviously don’t know basketball. Dallas lost because Boston had a 7ft stretch big named Porzingis that nobody could stop when it mattered. Defense still wins championships 🥴🥴🥴
The owner is trying to dismantle the team and move them to Las Vegas.
Hot take
Nico Harrison never won a chip either and never had final appearance without Luka
Well yea…
And vice versa. Making the finals and getting curb stomped like a bunch of g-leaguers isn’t the accomplishment folks think it is.

We’re not winning shit without luka
I'm going to get back here when dallas loses in the play-in or gets smoked in the first round
And what do I get if they make the 2nd round a cookie?
