- Watch this incredible huge landslide, where literally houses are floating into the sea.
One person had to run for his live, to escape the landslide. Fortunately nobody got injured, only one dog had to be rescued and survived.
Interesting. The viking ship building skills obviously influenced how Scandinavians construct their houses. As long as those houses don't appear in England or France in a couple of days trying to conquer those lands, I'm all for it.
Notice that those are the box houses. So built by interlocking fitted wood planks. Newer houses are not like those and as you see, much more fragile.
This is so aweful. Imagine the region you grew up in as a kid would just sink in seconds. If your house gets destroyed that's one thing, but the whole village! I dont wanna imagine how sad this is, especially if you are a sentimental person or a kid :(
It's been almost 3 years since this happened, but it's still weird to drive by and see half the mountainside be completely bare, with no soil or houses on it anymore.
I want to know who the building contractor was for the white and brown houses. The occupants could have slept straight through that! 🌊🏠
It just floats like a sea worthy boat
A house boat!
I feel like this white house could be future meme
The brave little white house was standing till the very end!
@@sajidakhan1676 You could probably still put a couple of pontoons under that and viola! Houseboat
Glad no one was hurt. Sorry for your loss!
Damn next video popup suggestion cards, can never see the end of video
AAAARGH!! I agree! I really wanted to see another view of the bottom left corner and it was blocked! There's a browser addon to get rid of those damned things, does anyone know the name of it?
EDIT: I think I found one, it's called Untube (on Ffox) you can toggle it on and off.
Damn, amazing how some houses float away and than float back, like rubber boats.
Klaas Menger houses in Norway are all mostly wood with a lot of isolation in the walls because of the cold weather , it would be a different story if it was concrete or brick houses. Quite amazing footage and wonderful that no one died.
THEN
omg that white house was well made
I am glad that no one was hurt.
1 person died
That's my type of little white house, getting right back up again after being knocked down. 0:48
Stand tall you majestic maverick!
Tragic for those villagers and amazing, the powers out of our control in this world.
I have never seen anything like that except that Japanese tidal wave in 2010. I hope everyone got out alive from those houses.
Yes, nobody was hurt
Kudos to the camera person for not swearing :-D
Americans be like :
OH MY GOD, OH JESUS. FUCK. DAMN. OH NO.
all that while making some whining noises, shaking and holding camera in portrate mode
Or a dog barking or a woman screaming..
and amazing considering he owned a big chunk of that property
SO glad that the people and dog are safe. Phew.
all I was thinking is "I wonder if that's covered by insurance"
I was thinking the same
they probably had flood insurance... but land slide insurance is what i was wondering
Natural disaster is covered by a fund in Norway.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
Gotta get rid of those videos blocking the shot for the last 20 seconds. Trying to watch this house float away and this dumb pop up is showing.
Got this feedback earlier, I wil change this next time.
Unbelievable power of nature, mesmerizing.
power of God..he owns nature
This is quick clay a deposit common in Norway and has caused many landslides
"The sea was angry that day my friend," G. Constanza.
..... Well, my desire to retire away to a small waterfront home just decreased dramatically..
I hope everyone is okay
Yes, nobody got injured. Only a dog had to be rescued.
@@AroundNijkerk Was this anticipated ? If home owners got out, they knew it was coming some how?
@@mjm4ut how did people know sth was going to happen?

I think most of the buildings where huts, and there was a lot of vibration before the landslide.
incredibly sad for those who lost their homes
These are holiday homes
@@AroundNijkerk Hi, was this a normal phenomenon in Norway?
@@nm2138 Well, it's natural, but not normal/regular
Amazing... I've been dreaming a lot of giant waves and rough seas, anybody knows what that means? BTW I'm here because of Coast to Coast AM, hello fellow fans!
Soil sample must be taken from the upper section to determine it's condition most likely it'll get saturated with rising water and will be drawn to the sea too
I hope no one is injured and people were evacuated.Nature is refreshing itself own its way
No, nobody was injured, only a dog had to be rescued.
Too bad we can't see the video to the end because of your preview windows - not just one, but two!
Thanks for this feedback, next time I will do this different
Could this be another quick clay slide like the one in 1978 at Rissa ? If it is then they had better start pumping salt water on the hillsides to stabilize the rest.
Floating mortgage..
Liquid assets.
Aight, I will head out now.
Wow!
Damn, unbelievable
Question for anyone who can answer it: if a house survive a landslide like this (I watched the vid and I know none did but if it did) does the property lines move with it? Can you claim a portion of the new location? Thanks!
These are holiday homes, so no one lives there permanently.
@weyes 2 wonder Wow, thanks for the in depth answer, I really appreciate it. I never thought of the radon situation, good thinking.
@Around Zeewolde, good to know thanks!
That white house sure is sturdy
That's what i thought. could probably still be inside chilling watching netflix
That gray house must have been like, "Where did I leave my backyard? Oh wait, here it comes!"
People around 1820: "Oh God, a thunderstorm! We will all die!!"
People around 2020: "We control the nature! Everything's under control!"
Nature: "Okay, wait a minute!"
The God to the nature:"Don't be so hasty..I'll decide when"
ye, already too much sht in 2020
Unless a druid, or some wizard did it, in which case it would be a human controlling nature ;)
Directed by Roland Emmerich.
It was caused also by quick clay?
Yup. blogs.agu.org/landslideblog/2020/06/04/alta-quick-clay-landslide-1/
Quit claim!! 😆
When did this happen?
The Ocean must've been hungry
Når var dette skredet?
I know this is Norway but
PEEEEEERKELE!!!
This part of Norway actually has a lot of people with Finnish ancestry. So saying perkele isn’t that far off😂
Klassz videó, gondolom a ház tulajdonosok nem annyira boldogok, bár most olvasom elhagyott nyaralók, hát közvetlenül a tengerparton nem vennék házat az egyszer biztos, semmilyen esetben. Láttunk pár hasonlót az elmúlt években.
The wave in real life
Between The Wave and this, I can't but feel that the Norwegians have basically cornered the market in building houses in stoopid locations.
Force of nature
Force of God he owns it
Damn, that's impressive! How is this possible?
There's a lot of factors that go into it, but the basic idea is that some force (likely water underneath the ground), caused the friction between the soil of that plain that sank into the water and the soil underneath it to become too weak to continue holding it there. Probably coupled with the lack of any material holding it up at the bottom of the slope.
Its missing the dramatic music. Glad no one got injured/killed.
thank god the dog was ok
Yea ppl are just shit.
If G. Fluid was a dog he could've been still alive that's how low humanity has become
good to hear than no one has been injured or has perished. In my experience thought that's quite far from " incredibly huge".

Unbelievable
Look ma! We have a beachfront property now.
Would be kinda funny if it didn't sink and just continued a kilometer out or something.
Imagine the shock of the residents

I wonder how big the tsunami was when it reached the opposite shore.
Don't forget to pay your property taxes.

what caused it?
This is the effect of climate change. The average temperature is rising. This is causing the ground to warm up. First the underlying layers of ground were frozen, but now they melt and the weak layers of ground have this effect.
@@AroundNijkerk this is the effect of building houses 20 ft off of shorelines. Erosion is a very natural occurrence, and land masses have been disappearing and reappearing for billions of years.
@@gtimk3vr6 Right. They are too dumb. Always screaming "climate change, climate change" Only because everyone is now saying it and they think that they are cool and important.
The next rain: climate change
@@gtimk3vr6 Yup, and Norway suffers from many slides yearly, and has been since the ice from the last big ice age withdrew.
May have to do with frozen ground, but it has been like that for a very long time.
@@gtimk3vr6 Alta has a subartic climate. The average temperature has risen 1,8 degrees Celcius in the last 15 years, which has a huge impact.

They say no one was hurt! Did they know this was going to happen? Curious for the whole story.
These are holiday homes, no visitors due to covid.
yikes...
Floating houses? isn't it good Norwegian Wood... (I'll show myself out...)
huh?
Yeah that's some viking carpentry right there.
darnfloor. Well done! 😂
Fyyy faen, i helvetes god og rike!!!😱😱😱
Reminds me the 2012 movie. Los Angeles earthquake and the city going troutht the Pacific Ocean.
It's amazing when the homes start washing back in - let's hope they beach themselves somewhere so the owners can remove their personal history from them before the sea claims it all. Amazing footage - why were they not screaming for someone to come help them though?
They propably saw this coming and had already evacuated.
You can't do anything at that moment. And afterwards only 1 person was on that part of land and ran for his life.
Quick clay landslide
That's why you shouldn't build a house near the sea or ocean or even a lake!
Yes, the view is beautiful and stuff, but is it worth it???
Most lakes are good at self regulating water level. They are rather safe. Rivers are different story
Location location location
Ужас.. ((
Can someone explain how this is even possible?
Snow melting.
Bronzeaxe i done a bit of research and found ye, snow melting is part of it also common enough in norway
Gavin Doyle some say it has to do with rising water levels, causing the soil to become saturated and becoming a liquid making it way easier for it to move
It is very likely a quick clay landslide - a type of landslide which occurs in certain types of clays, specifically, those which were deposited in marine waters. Once the clays become exposed, freshwater filters through the sediments removing the salts which in fact hold the clay particles together. Think of these clay particles as being held together like a 'house of cards' structure. A small disturbance can cause a chain reaction unsettling these clays, expulsing the water held between the grains, and resulting in a quite large, spectacular failure like this. These also are (somewhat) common in Quebec, Canada.
Soil erosion..Shitty soil control by appropriate services. Soils like that (nearest to the sea) should be monitored every day (im serious), when they see that the soil is in danger of erosion -recommend to the owners of the summer houses to remove them further from the sea

Global warming in effect. Melting permafrost and rising sea level led to this disaster. Expect a lot more of events like this. They will get worse.
So it was built on top of old layer of permafrost?
I didn't know there's permafrost in Norway...
Global warming is a hoax which is why they stopped calling it global warming because warming wasn't happening
