    Once again, great content. This gives me many more things to be cautious of, and to incorporate into my waterfall. Starts the 23rd of this month! Wish you could be here!

    So, I love what you do, but now at 70+ and on a budget, I need ideas for a pond with smaller rocks. I have built 4 ponds - starting on my 5th (bummer to move so often and leave a pond), but having construction ideas with smaller rocks or slate would be fun.

    Thank you for an excellent video. You and your crew make it look easy, It Is Not! A bolder a little larger than a basket ball is several hundred pounds. Carry on Sirs and Madams, doing a great job!

    Love your videos. Have you ever done one on safety and discussed some injuries you and your crew have sustained?

    Once you are finished the waterfall feature, please show us how you completed the backside of the waterfall dirt mound. I have to figure out how to finish the dirt mound where the waterfall is going to reside as it will be exposed to the remainder of the backyard. Thanks for all you do here Eric.

    This whole series has been *fascinating*. I'm curious to know if TPD does natural swimming pools and if they can be setup to allow for aquaponics.

    Although I'm fascinated by the entire ptogression, this is the stage that is the most exciting to me: the artistry & landscaping of the falls. I'm curious to know how much you sketch out each project before construction. Obviously, as with aquascaping or even non-aquatic landscaping, a fair amount of the final artistic design is determined by the materials you end up using. The shape and size of the boulders & rocks delivered to the site provide inspiration as do the plants. I'm just wondering how closely does the finished pond/waterfall/whatever adhere to the original plan you had and how fully sketched out your designs are.
    As a visual effects artist, I often have to stay very close to the pre-production designs for a shot in a film or television show. Sometimes, however, I'm given a good amount of leeway to further develop the look of a scene based on the original designs and the director's vision. (And if I'm the VFX supervisor I get even more say in the matter.) When I'm aquascaping an aquarium I sometimes start with a drawing or I mock it up in Photoshop. Most of the time, though, I have just a general idea of the layout and I take my cues from my resources (rocks, driftwood, plants) and create as I go while staying within my initial mental outline.
    In other words, Eric, what's your design process? (This projects is looking amazing, by the way!)

      Aquatasy Very cool question Aquatasy! I designed this pond at the 2014 Water Garden Expo after hours at the bar with some of the top pond guys in Nation! I made some small design changes to the final product at Rosemary's Place!
      Much like you suggested we are driven and inspired by our resources available to us as we install. I actually brought in more stone to complete this waterfall because what was available to me at the point of waterfall construction wasn't inspiring me.
      If you visit HelixLIfeSupport DOT com you will find the Helix Pond Design Guide and can find a concept drawing of this pond in the guide.
      Most of the time we have creative freedom to build what we want to but frequently are limited by budget constraints.
      Even the television productions we've had the pleasure to work on, we had 100% creative freedom on our part. However when we build the Waterfall for Fox Utopia we designed a 6' tall waterfall and the Executive Producer pushed us to make it a 9' drop!
      I started aquascaping in my African Cichlid Aquariums! I would remove and re-stack the rock work monthly! Extensive rockwork too! Not just a couple rocks! It lead me to extensive rock work in Reef Tanks as my business developed. Typical aquarium guys would stack reef rock like a block wall without interest, rock ledges, overhangs or open floors. I've literally spend thousands of hours stacking rock in aquariums!!
      Now I'm rambling but thank you for the question!

      Keep on rambling! See, I knew there was a good story to be told about this. That's why I asked the question.

    ThePondDigger I know water features like this vary in several separate variables. However, if I wanted a feature with similarity to this one, how much on average could I expect to spend and in return would this add value to a home if you wanted to sell it?

    I just spent the past two days watching every episode! I have what used to be a Koi Pond, that was turned into a frog pond. I am going to turn it back into a Koi Pond this summer and needed a starting point. I'm in Massachusetts so I was wondering if you knew where i could get all the equipment that you used (pump, skimmer, waterfall etc.). Is it something I can order online?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 лет назад

      Billy Janic Billy!!! Thank you for your dedication to your koi and to our RUclips CHANNEL!!!!! We have Authorized Helix Retailers in PA, NJ and NY that you could easily drive to over the weekend and get all your Helix LIfe Support equipment for your pond build! I would love to see your design and get you all dialed in for your build! We have the Helix Pond Design Guide that we build Rosemary's pond with and you can use it as guide for the plumbing and building of your pond along with the videos.
      I'm sure the Retailers would gladly ship product to you if you aren't up for the drive but if you drive you will get to put your hands on the product and save the money for shipping! Let me know what you decide and feel free to lean on us for design support! Thanks for watching!!!!!

    I love your videos, i am recently in a situation where my customer had already tried to build a waterfall and pond all above ground. He didnt know anything about water pressure or foot of head. This waterfall, all in all, is like 12 feet long. But only 3 feet tall. It was makeshift for sure. He is on a budget as you can imagine, so like an idiot I took the job, he didnt want to pay for it being re done. He just wanted what he had finished... now i am in a bind where i am going to start losing money and i am afraid I cannot get it to stop leaking off of the sides. I am about to give up on it all together. Does this happen often, should I bite the bullet as a fresh business owner just to keep my name intact?

    instead of using the black fome kitt stuff(sorry i dont know how you spell it) can you also use concrete? and after that use small gravel to cover it?

    For a small fountain style waterfall, does the liner need to go behind the rock, or will the rock and morter be sufficiently waterproof and direct the water flow?

  • @gibbygordo

    Can you use PT plywood to keep 3ft vertical wall from eventually collapsing.....i know concrete would be better,.... plywood easier

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 лет назад

      gibbygordo I certainly wouldn't recommend it because the wood will breakdown and rot away within a very short time but I will tell you I know a few people that have done it without a care in the world!!!

    do you have to use fish friendly foam or can you use any foam as long as it is given time to go off?

    • @curse6of6me6
      @curse6of6me6 Год назад

      It's only basically going to be toxic when it not dried and cured there's barely a difference between waterfall Foam and expander a foam both poly ones black ones not. I've used normal expander foam and then just use underlayment onto of it and it's fine

    • @freshimpactco.8698
      @freshimpactco.8698 3 года назад

      You may like to get hold of some concrete cloth, it's a little expensive. There is an alternative, you can also soak normal cloth in a cement and water mix (without sand and gravel)

    • @freshimpactco.8698
      @freshimpactco.8698 3 года назад

      Don't let it set before you lay your liner back down with your rocks... Just thought I would add that. You may want to use an underlay over the cement cloth so your liner isn't exposed to cement....
