Guys, thank you for your support here. I am very grateful that so many of you appreciate what I am trying to do here.
A common trend in your comments was of the 'don't take the trouls comments to heart' type. Well I'm not actually bothered by them. More to the point they become a target for me. I look at it as a challenge and I am not used to being second best. I suspect your average troul (am I spelling that right?) has an IQ which probably rivals your typical 'flat earther' and as many of you are aware the FE IQ rarely rises above double digits. Bottom line - those guys are not much of a challenge. The deal here then is that I am quite happy to tear any trouls a new rear end.
THOUGHT - TROUL BASHING MIGHT MAKE GOOD VIDEO MATERIAL - GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS HERE - I THINK WE COULD HAVE SOME FUN WITH THIS. IT WOULD PUT THEM ON THE RECIEVING END AND I AM GOING TO BET MOST WON'T SUSTAIN MUCH 'BASHING' BEFORE THEY RETIRE FROM THE GAME.

I don't let the INACCURATE criticisms get me down. On the contrary, I see them as a challenge. I never do anything with the intent of being the second best at it, so I sort of feel obliged to set them straight. That is rarely difficult because very few of them exhibit an IQ that is more than two digits strong.

The complexity, science, and mathematics of the camshaft is such a mystery to the majority of us seeking maximum torque and HP. Although we have a general idea of what we need I strongly believe with your help they could tell us exactly what we need. David, I recently discovered you from watching a live chat with you and UTG. When I was a teenager getting into the world of HP modifications, there was no one to really guide me - no internet yet and so the speed shops kept selling me parts that never really worked well with my combinations. I only started to make some progress when I read Smokey Yunick's book Chevy power secrets. Now I think that I may be selfish by saying this but I wish that you were 20 years younger, knowing what you know now. Keep going strong David, I wish you good health and a long life.

Definitely looking forward to what you can do to GT40 & GT40P heads with the smaller chamber. I tried my hand at some E7TE heads and got 215/185 @.500 with stellar low & midlft numbers, but always felt like I needed more from the intake side. I'm glad I found your channel, and I'm looking for to seeing more.

I Learned to port cylinder heads and intake manifolds from a Video I bought by Pete McCarthy, Porting Pontiac V8 cylinder heads.
Covered the basic Race math used involved. Showed basic Porting Strategies.
    Still lacking learning how to.
I learned most from Chad Speier, Speier Racing Heads his V-Factor Porting group on Facebook. And the rest of the guys there helped me tremendously.
Applied what I learned to my own Factory Pontiac V8 Iron cylinder heads.

The poor service from some cam companies (including some REALLY BIG cam companies) might go deeper than you realize. I have given up on several because they did not send me the specific cam I ordered, for various reasons. One told me the lobe centers wouldn't make a difference, just run it! Fortunately, there are some very good cam suppliers out there. Albeit less well known.
Thank you for all you do. I have been a follower of yours for over 25 years. I have many books and magazine articles authored by you. I have learned so much, and it has helped me earn a living as a professional engine builder.

    • @marvingvx1
      @marvingvx1  2 года назад +1

Hi, Mr. big Chevy block, My apologies here if I have given you, or anyone else, the idea I am only seeking the big top end HP numbers. All this port velocity and energy stuff I discuss is to generate the widest and strongest output in terms of torque . Let me make a point here for you to keep in mind. the best performance overall for a high output road race or street strip engine is when the best of both torque and HP are dealt for with equal importance. Also, often overlook is power band width and getting the top end torque/hp to hang on longer for a later shift.

    • @bcbloc02
      @bcbloc02 2 года назад

@@marvingvx1 No I knew you are after maximum area under the power curve not just peaks. I thank you for giving us the tips and tricks to maximize that. I have had several High Compression Full Race Pontiac 455 V8 engines 12.0- 13.0 :1.
I Love the Power they deliver.
Hated the ultra high fuel costs cruising around. Did it for 15,000 miles total on 110+ Motor octane Race gas had a ball of fun though.
No substitute for High compression when Street Racing Flat out to Win .
This is before 2000-3000 Hp Twin Turbo Pro Stock cars put on Illinois Streets typical now.
But I could drive anywhere anytime 100% reliable as long as my 1970-1/2 Trans Am RAIV headed 455 shortblock 4-speed had a full 18-gallon tank of 110 Race gas !

Correct comment on port volume DV! Using Buckingham Pie theory, I did an engineering project on determining the relationship between area and length of the intake port on how well that port will fill a cylinder. In short, the exponent on the area term is 1 and exponent on the length term is 2. Hence, length is very important in terms of basic engine design. Your findings on Coef of Discharge and Port Energy match up against Fluid Mechanjcs science.

Port area is relative, just not the whole thing. Your Apple Port SOHC Pinto 2000 cylinder heads are an object lesson on where to add metal and where to take metal away. Both you and the late Kenneth Duckworth are on record for saying the stock Port Diameter and Port Volumes are too big for most 150 to 200 hp net engines. David kudos for your excellent videos. Have you ever reviewed the Ford Racing 351 N 10 degree head. We built a dart iron eagle 8.2 deck block height engine ,with a 4.140 bore and 3.4 stroke crank ,10 years ago. I can tell you the Chevy boys were Stunned. We never got to dyno this combo ,but on track preformance was amazing. This was a solid lifter cam engine with T&D shaft rockers. TROY BOWEN from Ford preformance solutions put the engine together.
My local engine machine shop guy timed the engine the first night we ran the car. The machine shop guy being a Chevy guy put to much base timing, engine ran like crazy until Ross forged pistons died..

I Personally Love Iskenderien Cams for Street Performances and all out Racing use.
I haven't found a Better Ultra Quality Low Budget Hydraulic Flat Tappet or Solid Flat Tappet camshaft. The Camshaft lobes last never had an issue with failed Isky cam lobes. I always use Isky 202 HY Hydraulic or 202H solid lifters.
I start and break in the engines with Full seat pressures inner springs never removed. No low ratio Rockers either.
Everyone 1000-5000 HP is using Isky Redzone or Isky E-Z Needless amoco Bronze bushed Solid Roller Lifters with 1000+ lbs open max lift spring pressures.
Iskenderien will custom grind any camshaft profile you want.
Best of course in Billet Roller Solid lifter cam cores.

I have commented previously when you have have had sound issues, it is obviously frustrating for us to not to be able to hear you when you have gone to the effort to make the videos.
As I am watching this at after midnight in the UK on headphones the sound is crisp but the voice is only on one channel, the musical "stings" are on both channels.
I am not intending to be rude, I find the content fascinating and I like the independent thought. Keep up the good work

Incidentally We are paying more now for 87 RM/2 Gasoline per gallon than I was paying for 110 Motor Octane Racing Gasoline that I used 1987- 2006 years.
It was $1.999 per gallon and in 2006 it was $2.99 per gallon for Sunoco 110 or Cam2 110 Race Fuel here in Illinois.
How I was able to drive 15,000 miles on High Octane Tetraethyle Lead Gasoline in my 1970-1/2 Trans Am.
When the RAIV 455 Engine goes back together in 2022 I will be using E85 Corn Fuel we have here local in Illinois at $2.74 per gallon present cost. Motor octane of E85 is about 105, Research Ocane around 112-115.
Like to use 110 Leaded Race gas uncut pure like I did in the past but at $10 per gallon it's not realistic.
Probably use 1-2 tankfulls of 110 octane to start the RAIV455 engine for old times sake, the smell is priceless when it burns in an engine. Switch to E85 then.
I have several 455 Pontiacs 5 of them.
    Two Pontiac 389's.
    1 1970 Pontiac 350 engine.
    A few Small block Chevies.
    1 427 BBC.
1 Pontiac 455 I plan to build to run on 87 octane true full Ignition advance used for Nationwide driving duties.
Present engine I built in my 1963 Grand Prix has just 8.4:1 static compression ratio same as SD455 Trans Am had. Running on Illinois 93RM/2 E10 gas full Ignition advance with the Pontiac V8 Vertex OAC Magneto .
Pump gas 87 Pontiac 455 I plan to use 1975-76 6H 455 heads. Ultra low compression 7.6:1 stock. Will full port them, maybe mill the heads to bump compression up.
Done simulations looks Plausible to obtain 425-450Hp True on 87 octane ported Factory Pontiac Iron heads . Flat Tappet Hydraulic Isky camshaft used.

DV, every video you make is a gift to us the viewers. The knowledge that you share cannot by assembled by almost anyone else alive, or yet to be born. The fact that you are prepared to share it is greatly appreciated by the vast majority of your viewers. As far as I am concerned, anyone who doesn't like what you say can just move along and watch other channels, as they are simply unworthy of your experience.
I would love to attend your seminars, however as I'm in Australia, getting there at the moment is more than a little challenge. I imagine that you have some course notes. Maybe the sale of these notes might be another revenue stream for you. I'd certainly be interested. I've already purchased your Torque Master and IOP programs and advise everyone else to do so as well. As well as several of your books.
Thing that I would like to see is how you calculate the preferred LSA and cam advance/retard on different motors. You've mentioned it several times, but have never elaborated on it, outside of your 128 video.
Thanks for all of your great videos, articles, and publications.
    Regards Greg

I've always passed on Lunati cams (sep once for my Jeep 4.0 stroker) because they put a sh-t ton more duration on the exhaust side of their cams, i love making torque on my builds, so once the heads are balanced (lotsa aftermarkets are good right out of the box!) and there is a decent exhaust system in play, why would i want to give up low to mid range torque by running an over cooked dual pattern cam ? ?

I would appreciate you showing the 4 valve SBC head or any info about it. I remember in June 1999 when my son was born I bought an issue of Hot Rod from the gift shop at the hospital and I remember they had an article in there about a 4 valve cylinder head, but I don't remember who made it. I'm sure that magazine is somewhere around but finding it could be quite a chore. It's in the attic with the rest of the childhood memorabilia. 😂

Hi David, this is Brad. I attended the engine seminar at your shop last September. Really enjoyed it, lots of great information. Just wanted to confirm what you said someone told you about Lunati. When I called them a few years ago the rep was really against your profiles on their cam list. He didn't say they weren't doing them anymore but highly suggested their profile instead. I didn't buy a cam from them.

The Present state of the USA and Global, leaving politics out,
Supply chain disruptions, no engine parts, many parts unobtainable now , parts on back order indefinitely some of my parts bought on back order for 6 months now, No China Steel or Aluminum coming in. Small USA Steel , Aluminum, and Titanium metal mills only left, No Chromemoly steel left to build a Chassis Race Car, tight budget engine builds are in !

Hello David, could you please let me know your thoughts on small block chevy performer rpm intake runner porting. In a dual plane intake I know that the upper set of runners and the lower set have different flow rates and porting the intake to equalize them is important. And I have your book that shows the porting difference, but its not equal. How much importance should be put on actually making each port equal. Every time I see this manifold in a shoot out it usually comes out on top and its always a non ported version. So in this particular manifold is equalizing each runners flow that important. In my mind you would want each cylinder to get the same amount of air and fuel, but when tested this manifold comes out on top with no porting, I am very confused.
