Hello MurphysGarden, your dog is adorable. Now you’ve had more time with the Strulch did it do everything you wanted? I suffer with a lot of snails in Plymouth and I’m particularly keen to know if it makes much difference in that respect.
Thank you, he is quite a little character! The Strulch has been brilliant (I’m not sponsored to say that)! It’s lasted a good 18 months and I’ve barely had to weed the area, which has saved me so much time. I will top it up this spring and do the same again, it is quite expensive but I think it is worth it. It binds together and doesn’t seem to get flicked about by the birds like bark chippings do. I don’t know about keeping snails off as I don’t have that problem but I would think that they wouldn’t like it. I say - go for it, try a couple of bags and see! Good luck Jenny
I’ve never tried using grass clippings, have you? I always worried grass would seed everywhere but I know people have said it’s good, I might try it in the veggie patch first. Thanks for the idea, will give it a go and a bonus that it’s free!
I have been using strulch in my borders, applied very thickly ( bought in bulk) I do not recommend it. It does not even last the year, slugs still crawl over it and I have found no benefit of using it, especially now the cost has doubled in the last 3 yrs. Better of using homemade compost or organic compost!

@@MurphysGarden I am trying it now,not been down long
enough yet.
Let me know how it goes, especially if it’s a disaster!
@@MurphysGarden I will, can’t see it will be a disaster because people leave cuttings on the lawn to feed the grass.
I guess as long as the grass hasn’t gone to seed it will be good

Does the compost kill or at least slow down weed growth?
To be fair it isn't meant to be applied too thickly (3-4cm according to the manufacturer).
@@SpencerHart-hz5cb yes that is how I apply it, Also I have used it for 4 years, never again
