    One can't forget that Iron Maiden, Michael Wilton of Queesryche, Alex Lifeson, early Metallica Kirk Hammet, and heavy brutal death metal acts like Trevor Peres of Obituary and Andreas Kisser of Sepultura all play strats. It's an old wives tale that you can't get a heavy-assed sound on a strat.

      Depends on the Strat, but I've had some surprisingly hot single coils. Once you play with the EQ curve, you could get them to metal up satisfactorily. Sure, they weren't EMGs, but an experienced player could make due with them.

    A 70s hss squier was my first ever guitar, it’s a solid beginner guitar and I can totally recommend!

    • @freepressright
      @freepressright  Год назад +9

      They're beyond the beginner threshold, and I say that as a 30-year player who had the good luck and fortune of owning two USA Gibsons before age 18, as well as an SRV signature Strat. Mine sees regular stage time.
      I did end up replacing the pots with 500k quarter-sized alphas, and it now has a Duncan Blues Saraceno PAF humbucker in the bridge.
      It's a much better built guitar than the Fender Standard Mexico stuff I grew up with. I have the 50s Classic Vibe Telecaster, and I'd tell you the same of it.
      I added brass bridge saddles and it sounds as good as any Tele I've ever owned. I'll probably upgrade the string trees from the pot metal to something better, but it's a great player.
      At this point in my life, I get far more enjoyment out of players guitars than I do my American-made stuff. I enjoy modding and personalizing them to my liking.

    • @freepressright
      @freepressright  Год назад +1

      @Rob B I like Duncans quite a bit. Although I'd suggest to you that you upgrade the pots in this guitar and you will get more output out of the humbucker. This guitar has the small 250k pots. 500k pots will enhance the output and headroom significantly, cheaper than a new pickup. Plus, any pickup will benefit from better pots. Guitar Fetish sells entire replacement wiring harnesses for HSS Strats with the large pots for like 30 bucks.

    • @robb4340
      @robb4340 Год назад

      @Rob B yes. You would not believe the difference that the hotter potentiometers (and physically larger), and the upgraded wiring will make for the original pickup.

      @@freepressright Love em ALL! With Dio as well. VOL. 4 is probably my all time fave.
      You know what bro, there's another Fender out there for the Gibson guys (like myself, I've owned many! Lots of 70s SGs and Les Pauls have passed thru my hands LOL), and that's the Telecaster Deluxe! I just got one, and its pretty awesome. I got the Vintera Fender version , but by all accounts, the Squier kicks ass too! 2 humbuckers, which on the forums they argue aren't exactly like the originals, but they are damn good sounding for what they are, toggle on upper bout and 4 control knobs..it's a solid ass kickin' rock machine thru a torqued up Marshall!

    your honest appraisal of this Fender product is very much apprecciated by me,
    the fact that your'e a Gibson fan ( who isnt? ) lends gravity to this review,
    the fact that some one as expereienced as yourself took the time to venture into this demo speaks volumes itself,
    obviously its a quality product, and one that i WILL be purchasing soon,

      There's a couple of videos on my channel where it was used at a show during Comfortably Numb, solos 1 and 2. Feel free to check them out. I think as budget Stratocasters for rock n roll are concerned, this one ranks highly. I wouldn't mind getting the 50s model in sunburst as a blues axe, but for harder rock, this one is tough to beat.

    My first ever Fender that I sadly sold, but am now planning on purchasing again - a Fender American Special Strat HSS 2013 - though, THIS time, with a maple board vs my previous rosewood option, pre-owned, mint, Plek’d, with a Fender-branded tweed yellow vintage G&G case w/ red plush interior at a very good price, just a little more than a CV Squier like this bad boy! I just love the pickups on the American version - the Texas Special single coils! Easy top pick for all-time Fender pups! But, G’DAMN, there, fella! You are as legit as they come. I would love to meet you some day if you ever make it out to the greater Chicagoland metropolitan area for a gig! You’re not only an outstanding talent, but you seem like you’d be a cool cat to chill with! I was so stoked to hear you play some grungy, gritty, crunch filth sludge rock riffs like some of my all-time faves, in “Hey, Man, Nice Shot” and “Spoon Man”! I’ll be looking out for Katie and the Red Hots, from Ohio! Follow them on Facebook, other people here, who shockingly read my comment in its entirety!

      Can’t name the riff @7:37 - though it is very similar in all its properties and structure - to the opening riff to “Guilty,” by Gravity Kills. I’ll never forget how certain so was as a youngin’ that said single was a NIN banger! No, though I’m CERTAIN it was conceived of with HEAVY influence from NIN (favorite of all-time, if I needed to choose only ONE).

I've been a cover band and tribute band musician most of my career, and I've done a lot of emergency fill in work. That's kind of a specialty of mine, to show up and sub for a player on short notice.
      February Star the band is now on hiatus. Since that time I played for a while in a band called "Rock this Way" and am now in a band called "Katie and the Red Hots." Check out some of my other content on my channel, and I'll link up the Red Hots promo video.

      @@freepressright what stood out is how much fun you're having with that guitar. I think a pickup truck guitar review youtube model would be successful. You could do the reviews in different locales even. You'd get a lot of hits and prob a crapload of guitar gear sent your way. You probably already thought of this, am I right? :)
      Anyway, I can't help but modify things and mine is going to be a Super Squier. New bridge, staggered tuners, pickups (Invader and two Lace sensors) and all black hardware with a pearl blue pickguard. Oh, and a kill switch are on the way. :D
