Love the break down on motor specs! Could you adjust the music volume down in ratio to your voice level- thanks!
Nice video.. but man please kill the music... 😉
Thanks for the feedback. I tried to lower it a lot on my newer videos. Let me know if it is better on those.
@@JonE5FPV can you reupload this one
yea my god it was so hard to hear what you were saying, music is just bothersome when trying to understand what you are talking about.
@@JonE5FPV simple rule of thumb, audio should be at -10db, background music if talking about -24db, background noise -18db.
Haha you always have a awesome intro at the start of your video. Congrats 500 sub
Awesome vid. Answered my questions about motors fast and thorough. Thanks👍
Glad it could help! Thanks man
Thanks,this video was really helpful.
Thanks for taking the time, I have several new Beginner series videos planned that will be coming out soon.
Great video, okay so I understand what these numbers mean and how to multiply and get to the RPM, but how do I know what RPM I need for any particular drone?
Great video, man. Thanks
Really good video love the educational explanation i would like to find out what happens if you have (high or low) kv motors but yet the drone is (heavier or lighter)
Lol kv = lower top rpm but faster to achieve the top rpm (like 1st gear)
higher kv = higher top rpm but slower to achieve the top rpm (like 5th gear)
Hey man. I got a bnf from CMW last year. It’s a merica light build 5 inch with 2206 1800 kv weight with props is 250 grams. How effective are 2206 compared to 2207? I haven’t flown it because I haven’t had time (work).
gr8 vid, i finally understand this stuff now thanks 2 u
Glad to hear it! This is one of my first videos 3 years ago. Lots more great stuff on the channel, and ive made a lot of improvements on the sound etc. Id love to know your opinions on the newer stuff. Cheers!
Why was one bats kV higher? How was the motors different to make this happen? Was it bigger wings or what?
Thanks for the video ! I also have some follow-up questions if you can help/guide:
1. how can you compute the lift force from the RPM knowing the model of the propeller (what software can be used to modelate this) ?
A great resource for this is mini-quad test bench. He has thrust tests for all the popular motor/prop combos.
www.miniquadtestbench.com/
Nicely explained thank you
Thanks for sharing knowledge. I am new to this and I appreciate the details though I am puzzled why you would add sound track to the video that compete with your voice?
Thanks for the info but would appreciate some help. What combination would be good for lifting heavy loads? For example, would 2807 1500kv motors on a 7” kwad be good enough to lift a 2 kilo payload? And would a 1500mah 4s battery be sufficient to power this combo?
You woudl want larger battery imo, 2000-3000mah for longer flights. You can probably get in the air with a 1500mah, but it would be pretty short flight time.
@@JonE5FPV Thanks. Does that mean the rest of the specs should be good enough to lift 2 kilos? How long would that last with that battery? Would running 2 batteries in parallel get the job done or do I need to shell out for that bigger one?
Thanks for this video.I have a problem. Why dc motor is used instead of ac motor in drones? If you help me ,I will be happy .
Are all the mounts the same im finding it hard to get info, can I just buy any frame for any motor? How do I know?
Mostly standard for 22xx and 23xx size motors and 5” frames but each will list motor mounting pattern
great info in the video, the music is good but just needs to be turned down quite a bit so it fits in the background, just some constructive feedback
Thanks man. Last year I was still learning and def messed up sound on a few. The rest of the beginner series should be a lot better. Got a lot of new av equipment since then.
only 300 views?? THanks a ton for your time, just trying to learn.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Hope it helps. If there is anything else you are trying to figure it out let me know. Always looking for new video topics to help people out.
Hi Jon .. Thanks for video
Can you please suggest how to install different screw size motor base...
for e.g, i am using BETAFPV 95x V3 which has 1106 motor with Motor Mount Holes: M2EQS on Dia 5.0mm
but i want to use DIATONE MAMBA 1404 with Installation Hole Position: 12mm x 12mm M2.
Please help me :) ..thanks
i believe that is the same mounting pattern, can you confirm that those 1106 also have the 12x12 mounting?
can I use same size but slightly different kv in a same build please
one of my drone lost a motor and I can not find the exact same motor
I found a motor with same size but the kv is 3800 but my drone motors kv is 4000
thanks
Let's fix the title from "Drone Motor Sizes Explained: FPV Beginner series"
to "Drone Motor KV Differences: FPV Beginner series"
When you are talking about volume calculation at the end what volume are you calculating? The amount of air displacement or the volume of the motor itself? What is the usefulness of knowing the volume?
It becomes useful in comparing difference sizes of motor to figure out which one is actually bigger (usually bigger means more power).
1805 vs 1408 for instance. We know right off the back, one is has more low end torque, and one has more high end speed, but for middle throttle range flying like most of us do, which ends up having more volume? It can give you an indication especially when a ton of new motors are coming out of various sizes.
@@JonE5FPV Hey thank you for the response! I'm looking to get into this hobby and found your video super helpful.
Just for clarification. If I calculate volume for the 1804 it is about 1,018mm^3. The 1408 is 1,231.5mm^3.
1. Given those volumes and my understanding from your video am I to then conclude that the 1408 has more power for middle throttle overall simply because it has the larger volume?
2. Does this value ever become misleading in a situation where a 1408 is powered by a 4s battery versus being powered by 6s battery or is the only difference in the batteries the load distribution but the overall power of the motor remains the same?
Hello Jon I've got a racerstar 1507 3600 kv what frame would fit.. Thaks to help me😊
For 1507 I love the massive droner for race style flying or the Acrobrat for freestyle, OR if you want to carry a gopro i suggest the Airblade Intrepid V2.
@@JonE5FPV thanks jon🤗
Please re-upload the video without Music. Nice explanation. It would help a lot for beginners.
Sorry for that.Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
Great informative vid bro, thanks for breakin it all down for us! But YES the music has to go!
Glad you liked it! Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
why is 2405 motor your favorite?? just curious because im still learning about motors..
This was a few years back. That was my favorite motor for 4s racing. In 2020, 2207 1800ish kv is now my favorite on 6s. Very versatile and can be used for both racing and freestyle.
What is 4s or 6s mean . Can anyone explain me
Does anyone know where to get UAV Motors and Integrated Systems with the remote
@Richard Sheldon can you elaborate a bit on what you're referring to? What type of integrated system are you looking for?
hello, the screw mount motor are same or its depends on the moto saize ?
they are mostly the same, many are 16x16, but some older motors are 16x19. The top screw is always M5 nut that goes on top
Could you turn the background music up I could almost hear you the whole time.
sorry abotu that, my first few videos while i was still learning. The new stuff should sound much better! Id love to know your thoughts if you have a moment to check out a newer one.
thank you sir
Most welcome! Lots more videos to come!
I'm new to quads, but have experience in electronics. When I hear "KV" I think kilovolts! lol... So what does KV actually mean in this context?
“Kv” refers to the constant velocity of a motor (not to be confused with “kV,” the abbreviation for kilovolt). It is measured by the number of revolutions per minute (rpm) that a motor turns when 1V (one volt) is applied with no load attached to that motor
@@JonE5FPV Thank you for the quick and definite response! I'm really looking forward into getting into this hobby. Unfortunately I just crashed the Tinyhawk I got today into my wife's halloween spider web strings! Now I'm tweezing out the fibers from the motors. XD
Nice video. Is it possible to lower the music level so it doesn't compete with your instruction?
Yes. Apologies for the music. In my more recent videos I have figured out a better music level and they should sound much better.
How take care of my brushless motor?
Not much to it. Just don’t get dirt in it or smash it and it will be fine. No need to oil or lube it.
If you do get it nasty look up how to disassemble the motor (Ik of only hex screws or grades disks) then use dry med or hard toothbrush after u can use air compressor or let some $store silly putty sit on 1/4 of the bell magnets at a time(it forms into all the crevices with gravity)
Why do you have background music playing when you're trying to explain something.? BIG DIDLIKE!!!
Sorry man. This was one of my very first videos 3 years ago before I figured out how this works. It’s been a long grind and been through 5 cameras, 6 mics, lights etc. so hopefully much more watchable for the new stuff.
Bro - with peace and love - I really wanted to understand what you were explaining to me - and you totally had my attention - great presentation - but the production music killed it - reduced your signal output to the point that my receiver couldn't decipher the signal clearly. Thank you though :)
Thanks for the feedback. This was one of my first few videos and i struggled with the audio very bad. I have some newer beginners and other series videos up. If you happen to see any of those, like Drone Components Explained, let me know if it works better. Thanks again.
@@JonE5FPV Thank you! Your content was good. I'll check your new stuff out!
What cell do you compute if it says 3-6 cells
Whichever cell count of the battery you will be using.
When u have 3 wires all the same colour...which is the Signal wire etc
Lots of good info. However the music was very distracting and made it hard to hear and concentrate on what you were saying. The volume on the music seemed to drawn out your voice. Just giving you a heads up. Most people aren't here for music. Thanks for the info
Sorry about that this was one of my very first uploads almost 4 years ago. I totally messed up the sound on this one, i have been collecting editing tips and gear since then, so the new ones should be a lot better. Let me know if you happen to watch any if there any other areas i can improve. Appreciate the feedback.
@@JonE5FPV Cool I will definitely will check out your other videos. I'm new to the hobby. This video had a lot of good info in it. What other videos of yours would you suggest for someone who is new to watch?
I have a cheap amazon drone. You know the ones that come with the remote and you use your cell phone for video. Since then I have down loaded drone racing league simulator and fpv free rider. I'm planning to buy a jumper t pro or something like it soon to get started in fpv. Thanks
Hey man nice vid good info, maybe try a better way to show your info cant follow with your hand in the way but keep it up man
Tool you long enough to get to it after repeating yourself over and over and over lol
Apologies. This was one of my very first videos years ago when I was still figuring a lot of things out. I’d love for you to check out a newer video or one of the short films on drone racing and let me know if it’s improved and any thing else I could fix. Appreciate the feedback. Always looking to improve.
@@JonE5FPV don't apologize to a trole ..it was an amazing show ..if I didn't like it I would not of commented . You did very well my boy .
Chur bro I learned sumthing
thanks yo dad!
I enjoy your content however I can't believe at your lvl (professional) the audio is lacking and sounds like a speaker phone. A good microphone could be very useful. Using the stock microphone on a PC or camera is amateur. I mean this constructively it's not an insult. Thank you for what you do
hey thanks, and sorry about that. This was one of my very first videos almost 4 years ago where i was still figuring things out and yes totally messed up the audio. Ive since been through 7 cameras, 4 mics, and 2 mic transmitters, recorders etc... trying to improve this aspect. Unfortunately this has stayed one of my most popular videos, and i dont have anyway to fix it at this point. Some time ill re-record this, and re-upload, but I cant bring myself to just delete it, as i never delete anything. I hope the newer stuff is improved, if nothing else, this is a constant reminder to always do these as good as i can, and to also listen and watch prior to publishing (something i didnt know to do at the beginning)
@@JonE5FPV Thanks Jon for the reply. I see the date now. I was trying to figure out motor sizes and compare motors of same KV to see the end result in a numerical value. 1103 VS 1202 10,000kv I can't seem to find the math out, I want to know how they will differ. Thanks
Does this mean the small motors at 100,000rpm generate massive amounts of heat?!
cant hear from the music
Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
Totally agree. Awesome video but the music made it difficult to follow what you were saying. Way too loud
Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
Useful info, but that music kills the video
thanks! Yes this was one of my very first videos over 2 years ago. Apologies for the music, the newer ones all have that sorted out now.
MASON! WE ARE OUT OF TIME! WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN, MASON!
Could have been a fantastic video, but the music is too loud and frustrating.
Thank you for the feedback, this was one of my first videos, before i knew how to do it well. My more recent ones are much better if you want to check out some of those beginner series or other review videos.
Really good information, thanks! But PLEASE lose the music. It made it really hard to pay attention to what was being said.
Sorry about that, this was one of my first videos 3 years ago. Have improved a lot on the production, hopefully the newer ones are much easier to watch. thanks for the feedback.
2207 is stator size or motor size!?
Yes. 22mm wide and 7mm tall
just saw this video in 2021
wow, its still going strong. Ive leveled up quite a bit since then, but this one keeps getting recommended by algorithm. Id love if you checked out my more recent stuff and let me know if its any better or not.
I am using headphones so that I can attempt to listen to what you say. The music is a touch to loud and is very distracting. I would much prefer to listen to what you have to say than listen to the music. Thanks for the video anyway.
Sorry about that, one of my very first videos 5 years ago. They have gotten a bit better if you care to check out any of the more recent content. Appreciate the notes.
Your music is too loud can't very hear your explained about the each difference motors.
Good info but music totally unnecessary
Thanks man. This is one of my older videos when I was still working out the kinks. Newer ones should be a bit better. Still learning all the time.
Awesome, volume tho
Because of the stupid music it is hard to understand the explanation. I do miss explanation how you choose motor and 4S/6S battery?
each cell has a 3.7 volts and why is it 4.2 volts.
i disagree with jeff you explained alot...but i do agree the music was to loud..dont necessarily take it out but turn it way down, good video though
music in back ground cant understand you
should repost the video without the music....it was distracting while listening to the content.
why is it so expensive :(
You get what you pay for
I can barely understand you underneath the music. The sound quality was also very bad.
I wish you could get rid of that awful background music. RUclips videos are best without any music. Otherwise good video.
Heighth?
Keep the music!! This is the fattest rap track out there!
u know 5mm like what??
Cant even hear what u are saying because of the background music.
Sorry about that, this was one of my first videos years ago, before i figured out how to manage the audio. The new ones are using better mics and editing. Would love to know if it has improved enough if you have a chance to watch a newer one.
3:48 and you haven't explained ANYTHING!
Apologies! this was one of my earlier videos so was still finding the right length, and trying to get the audio right. The newer Beginner Series videos and the rest should all be a little more to the point.
@@JonE5FPV I shall try some more of your videos. I am interested in the content because I just tried out a Mavic Pro the other day for the first time and I want to get busy building my first drone because I already figured out in the first minute of pushing the Mavic sticks that the self-flyers were going to be way too tame. I don't like long song introductions either.
I have reviews on all sorts of drones and other tips for understanding how they work. One of my newer ones is “Drone Components Explained”.
Since you are looking into those those of drones I would love to know if it is more helpful and to the point for you.
Also feel free to ask if there are any general questions you have. Always happy to get someone else into the air.
Loved the video, hated the music
Don't really enjoy being patronized while you double speak.
Early one of my videos where I was still figuring Things out. Fixed the audio and learned to say Things more concisely in the newer ones.
I’d appreciate your feedback if you feel they have improved or any other way they could be better.
Music and narration at the same time....really?
Reply me
the music is making the video unbearable
Background music is horrible and unnecessary
Apologies. It was one of my first videos years ago. I have made over 200 more. Check out my newer beginner series. I have fixed the audio issue I promise.
omg music annoying...
Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
You dont explain much. Ok so, we know KV now, perfect. What now? What about voltage sag? You will never get 16.8V on a punch on a 4s.
Why are there different sizes of motor bells? Spin up time? Torque? How much KV do I need on what quad or what prop or what flight style (race or freestyle)?
Please kill the motor and change the speaking style. It sounds like you talk to a 3 year old! I guess most of your viewers are older than that.
Sorry but „no“ from me about that learning video.
Thanks for the feedback. Larger motor will consume more power, and be less efficient, compared to a smaller motor that will be more efficient and have less weight, and use less power.
Your question is very complex, because pairing a motor to a quad requires answering many other questions
1 - What is the purpose? (Free style or race)
2 - What is the weight of the quad?
3 - What size battery? 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s?
4 - What size and pitch prop will you use
5 - personal flying style
This video was only to explain the differences in sizes and interpret the numbers in the names of motors. To answer your question would be a very long and detailed video, and it is largely personal preferences at play.
U R right.. Im outta here.. Can't stand it !!!
I had to stop watching due to the music
This is one of my early ones where I was still figuring it out. My more recent beginner series should be much better sounding and the background music way down or none at all. Apologies for annoyance. Hope you can fine some of the newer stuff helpful.
@@JonE5FPV Yea, I did read a comment you made saying the same thing..I get that and I can see you're much better now so good work..Maybe you can remake the video? with updated information?
Had to stop watching it because the music, which adds nothing to the video, was so annoying and often made it hard to hear what he was saying. Not sure why the creator of this video wants to annoy people watching.
Apologies. I made this video over a year ago when I was first learning how to make videos for RUclips. The content is good but you are right my background audio is terrible. Unfortunately there is not an easy way to remove it.
On my newer videos I leaned to reduce the background audio by 70-80% and got a better mic.
The new ones should be much better.
Would have been a much better video if the music was much lower .. it's do loud it's louder than your voice .. why make a video only to add music that friend out your voice 👎👎👎
Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
annoying background music
music is SOOOOOO annoying!!!!!!
Sorry about that! New videos have the sound levels fixed.
holy shit... he music ruined the whole video
Can you please remove the background music, it is useless and makes it a little hard to hear what you are saying
Hey sorry about that. I can’t change this older video. But I did change the way the music plays in all of my more recent vids. This was a while back but lots more are up. I upload twice a week.
I was going to watch this video through because I'm a noob when it comes to building my own drone from scratch... But then the music started and now I'm gone. If you're going talk in a video trying to explain something, people want to hear your voice - not some dumb ass music.
I had to stop watching...music is annoying and distracting dude..
Yes this was one of my first videos almost 3 years ago. Audio is bad. New ones I have new camera and mics and are much better. Apologies for this one
4 minutes into video, and you STILL haven't given any actual information. Silly..
music to loud, had to stop watching.... nice try otherwise.
Apologies for that. This was one of my first videos about 2 years ago. Since have invested a lot more in better gear, lights, mic etc. love to hear if the new ones are any better if you have a chance. Appreciate the feedback.
CANT HEAR REMOVE THE MUSIC!!!
So sorry. This is one of my first videos years ago and can’t fix the sound unfortunately. The newer ones should be a lot better. It has been a learning process.
omg music annoying...
