Good point. The sooner lines to Maynooth and Hazelhatch are electrified and the Interconnector built then it would rank along with the other systems. I reckon that the 1600mm gauge and being Irish got it a place in this film.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the Paris RER is that those trains run in the same manner as the British drive - on the left. However, the Paris Metro runs in the manner by which most of the world drives - on the right. Tourists get very confused and I've never seen this mentioned in a guide book.

The reason the Madrid Metro has left hand running is because when it first opened in 1919 it copied the street traffic above which at that time also ran on the left. When just a few years later Madrid switched to driving on the right side of the road, the Madrid Metro stuck to left hand running as it expanded over the years to the vast network it now has.

My favorite commuter train network is the one in Stockholm (SL Pendeltåg). It all started in 1968, when SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, Swedish for Stockholm County Public Transport Authoroty) took over the responsibility for the local train lines around Stockholm from SJ (Statens Järnvägar, Swedish for Swedish State Railways). Since the current network layout uses the original railway tracks built for local and regional trains, the network could expand fast. The first line went from Södertälje C to Kungsängen via Stockholm C, and in 1969 the line between Stockholm C and Märsta opened. During the 1970s and 80s, the network continued to expand. SL has always had a strong cooperation with UL (Upplands Lokaltrafik, Swedish for Uppland Public Transport Authoroty), which provides public transport in Uppsala County, the county just north of Stockholm. UL has a commuter train networks as well, called Upptåget, which started in 1991, as a test for a local train line from Uppsala C to Tierp. In the late 1990s, the line was extended from Tierp to Gävle C, and later a 2nd westboud line from Uppsala C to Sala was opened. Back in the early 1900s, there was also a railway between Uppsala C and Enköping, which is now demolished and replaced by buses. However, both Enköping and Uppsala Municipality is positive for a future railway between these 2 cities. Upptåget's 1st line went back then from Gävle C to Upplands Väsby in Stockholm County via Uppsala C. But in 2012, SL and UL announced that the line between Uppsala C and Upplands Väsby will be served by the SL Commuter Trains instead of Upptåget. This new also goes via Arlanda Airport, with an underground station located below the airport itself. In 2017, the biggest infrastructure project in Sweden was completed. It is a commuter train tunnel called Citybanan. The tunnel is 6 km, and goes from Stockholms södra to Odenplan. The railway across Stockholm (Getingmidjan) was comleted in 1871. Since it is difficult to build infrastructure in Stockholm because of the water, Getingmidjan, with 2 tracks, consisted to be the only railway through the city. In 1871, 2 tracks was more than enough since Stockholm C was served by just 10 trains / day. In 2010, that number had extended to 500 trains / day, still with just 2 tracks. But as said, thanks to Citybanan, the commuter trains got their own way through Stockholm.
There is also a lot of trivia, for example:
40% of all train journeys in Sweden is made with the commuter trains.
Close to both the commuter train and the metro stations, one will find a post with a large J for the commuter trains and a large T for the Metro (J = Järnväg, T = Tunnelbana). The commuter train stations previously had a large P (Pendeltåg), but is was changed to J since people mixed the P for Pendeltåg, with the P which means Parking.
Huddinge is one of the oldest stations: It was opened in 1860, thanks to a local farmer called "Patron" Pär Petterson. He gave land to the Swedish State in exchange for a railway station.
Krigslida is the only station with no connection to other public transport services. Not even a road leads to the station, just a bikepath from the residential area called Nedersta, located a few 100 meters from the station. Nedersta was opened in 1975, and changed name in 1980 to Krigslida.
There are several commuter train networks in Sweden, such as Krösatågen, Kustpilen, Norrtåg, Pågatågen, SL-pendeln, Upptåget, Västtågen, and Xtåget, but the only commuter train network which is actually called commuter trains is the one in Stockholm.

They were supposed to be refurbished in 2013 & switched from the original Siemens to a new Toshiba PMSM propulsion system (which would change its sound), but that was postponed, with 1-3 refurbished trainsets readied as prototypes in late 2016, but they never made it back into service as our government then changed its mind & instead ordered more new Bombardier (now Alstom) R151 rolling stock to replace them

You should have featured the Sydney Metro, which is our first automated heavy rail in the country. Maybe in a few years you should revisit it, as it's getting an enourmous extension through the CBD and will connect the northern and western suburbs, and eventually a new airport in Badgerys Creek at a proposed station called Western Sydney Aerotropolis. It's a pretty fascinating project!

London's commuter rail sucks. It's all served by a hodgepodge of companies (all or nearly all foreign owned, and some of the owners are other countries' state rail operators) which compete for franchises every few years. The fares go up above inflation every year. The Underground (Tube) has good frequency even in the suburbs, but the overland commuter rail often has very poor frequency, sometimes only two trains an hour in some places. The Overground (which is run by the municipal operator, the same as the Underground) has improved service on most of the lines it has taken over from the commercial franchise operators.

Now just watch your words mate! I'm a commuter an employee on London's Commuter Rail Network and an so don't use harsh words here. I'm proud that London has such a good Commuter/Urban Rail Network and respect it a lot plus next early year the Crossrail Elizabeth Line will start running between London Paddington and Abbey Wood before running to extending the sevices to Shenfield. I know we have the usual problems with delays etc and I've been to other cities in Europe and they do have the same problem as well when things go wrong on their network. More importantly we have new trains now running on on London's Commuter Rail Network on Tfl Rail and Greater Anglia and soon to South Western Railway at the end of this year hopefully without any delays to their software this time round after 2 years of delays related to it. It's the same issue when new trains are been tested on our network but safety comes first just to make sure the systems on new trains are working safely and properly.

I used to live in Philadelphia and I don't think New Jersey Transit is cool. Perhaps their rail system is cool, but their train staff are usually very unfriendly. If SEPTA staff are rude enough, NJT staff are even ruder!
