      $85 - 25.50 or better for taxes $10 for gas most likely so maybe $50 to get to take home if you lucky or less for a full day's work and don't forget so you're a subcontractor so you got to pay higher rates for insurance on the car is can't forget about that so it's only $45 for full day's work

      @@buckeye-pe6df that's a pretty dumbed down version of what is happening right now. if you really googled it you would know that instacart was the main target. say an order is $13 before tip. the customer would tip $6 but the driver would still only get $13 not $19. instacart was adjusting rates because of a tip and that was disgusting. i havent read into it any further but i highly doubt door dash does this specifically because their dasherhelp subdomain literally says:
      A guaranteed minimum is displayed upfront for every Drive order. Dashers will earn base pay + *100% of tips* received by DoorDash from the merchant or the customer. If the base pay + tip is less than the guaranteed minimum offered, Dashers will receive the guaranteed minimum amount. If the base pay + tip is greater than the guaranteed minimum, Dashers will receive base pay + tip.

    • @ike7539
      @ike7539 5 лет назад +4

      Yeap once min rate + tip reaches the guaranteed $ amount doordash keeps the rest of the tip money. If customer decides not to tip at all then doordash claims they pay drivers to bring it up to guaranteed amount which is so confusing to figure out while doing deliveries one after another.

    I appreciate you giving it the full day and trying. I have been dashing for about a month and half, and I have some suggestions and tips:
    1. Dash from 11-2 pm and 5-9 pm, or later if you can. These tend to be the busiest times, and you can get peak pay up to a $2-3 more per order plus maybe more tips.
    2. Speaking of tips, you will almost NEVER get cash tips from customers. Your tips are on the app. if you look at it under times you worked. Best tippers in my area are bigger orders, i.e. Safeway and large orders of food from nicer restaurants. Some of these orders can be hefty making you $20-30/order.
    3. Don't ask for tips from customers, and don't ask them to rate you five stars. Don't force convos. with them either. They just want their food. If they initiate conversation, great! Then shoot the breeze.
    4. Avoid Cheesecake Factory, chic-fil-A, and small drive up coffee shops. Chic-fil-A is a clusterfuck at lunch. Be prepared to wait at least ten minutes for your order. Go up at arrival, say you're from DD, then go sit down. Never get in their faces. I go to the restroom and check my phone.
    5. If a merchant says they don't have your order, check to see if you're at the right restaurant first, then if you are place the order yourself. Contact c/s to get approved to use your red card. If a merchant plays games with you, is rude, or makes you wait 15 minutes past the p/u time, UNASSIGN YOURSELF from the delivery. Never argue with these folks. You will get de-activated for that.
    6. You WILL get low ratings. DD customers are ruthless when it comes to ratings. But typically, if the food is kept warm, drinks not spilled, cold foods kept cold, and they get it on time, you'll be okay. Still, you can be polite af and still see your ratings go down two tenths of a point at the end of the day. It's happened to me numerous times. It sucks, but unless your CR goes below 4.00/5.00, you probably won't be deactivated.
    7. Never deliver to a high school student. Do NOT do it. You are not authorized to be on that campus. And if you're caught texting say a h.s. girl and being unauthorized, you could be in serious trouble. I lucked out as I dropped her order off at the office, and fully explained myself the staff and VP. I showed them her texts.
    8. Avoid college towns. College kids don't tip well, are pretentious and rude, and you'll be busy delivering Chipotle to apartment complexes wondering what building and apt. they're in, in the dark.
    9. Know this is a short-term side hustle. You won't make more than $100 most shifts. If you want more $$ get a regular job. Other companies are better, like UberEats, Grubhub, and Amazon Flex. Work on multiple apps. as you cannot rely on DD alone to make ends meet.
    10. You do not have to accept every job. If it's less than say $7-8 I don't accept it.
    11. Always verify the order with the merchant before leaving. They usually won't mind, as they know customers get upset when the order is not correct. (Another reason for a one-star rating btw!!)
    12. ALWAYS be polite to customers. Never argue with them or lecture them. They will 1-star you. Look at instructions as well. If they don't want to be bothered, leave the order on the doorstep. But always try to deliver it to them. If you cannot find their apt./house call them. If their order is running late I text them. That way they know where I am.
    13. Customer Service is very unhelpful, and mgmt. well you never hear back from management. C/s is nice, but they document everything. Never lose your cool with them. You will get fired.
    14. There are things beyond your control: i.e. car won't start, traffic is heavy, you get a flat tire. Call c/s and unassign delivery. Another driver can get your order then and p/u from you. c/s does understand this. You'll get a bad rating from the customer though, if you don't unassign.
    15. Don't smoke in your car with food in there. And never be under the influence of anything while dashing. This sounds like a no-brainer, but I bet some younger folks actually do this. it's cause for immediate deactivation.
    16. Keep your car clean and get regular oil changes and tune-ups. If it's not running well get it fixed. DD does not pay you for gas, mileage, and wear and tear, so keep that in mind.
    17. Dress professionally at all times. You are the face of DD. And use your warm bag.
    18. Never tamper with a customer's order. don't steal any of their food. You will have seals on some of the orders and they're there for a reason.
    18. Get a cupholder and a hands free device for your car.
    19. Never text and drive, and drive as safely as possible. don't road rage. Yes, some drivers are assholes. Don't be a dick too!
    20. Don't do C.O.D. orders. DD will take that $$ from whatever you have made that day and week. Most of those customers are shut-ins at hotels. Not judging them but also be safe when dashing. Use common sense, and if a situation gets hostile, leave immediately. Always do verify it's the customer before releasing the order. With that I"m out for now!
    I'd say above all have fun, and try not to stress over your ratings too much. If they want to fire/deactivate you, they will. The job is harder if you do stress on that. At least YOU are not working behind those counters at fast food places, or having two or three bosses micromanaging you and yelling at you every day. That is STRESSFUL. Longer orders have longer drives, so crank up the tunes and enjoy your day!!

    I work doordash in central Florida. Our minimum delivery is $6 which is nice. It is also very slow until about 1130am in my market. Once you have some experience with the restaurants in your area you will begin to see which ones are fast and efficient. I try not to wait any longer than 5 minutes. If you have to order yourself and you walk into a huge line you can always unassign the order. I think there are 2 good ways to make money with doordash. You can cherry pick expensive restaurants or big orders. Or you can do a lot of little ones that are not far in distance. What I like about doordash is it shows you exactly where you are going and shows the total mileage you will drive. My minimum is $1 per mile. For example $8 offer I will not accept anything over 8 miles. Again learn the restaurants and area. There are some places I will reject immediately because they are always slow. Time is money and we have to do our best to limit waiting time as much as possible. Thanks for doing the video. Enjoyed it.

  • @UnmatchedSkills
    @UnmatchedSkills 6 лет назад +4

    The option to "clock in" and allocate time in doordash is actually pretty smart. They can use that for data on their end, meaning that if for example, they know you plan to work for x amount of time, they can already "queue" up another order that might be nearby your previous drop-off, instead of giving it to someone else who may be farther away. Pretty sure they collect tons of metadata, gps, etc. More orders, more money for drivers, faster deliveries. Also, including tip before hand is bad for those of who don't like to tip, but if there was ever a service industry to tip, it'd be someone delivering food to your door. It probably makes drivers more inclined to be more courteous, fast, patient, and willing to actually meet you at your door instead of outside.

    Working in the restaurant business, and my point of view, there has to be some incentive for the person taking your order and getting it ready and meeting all the needs of the customer. Because doordash does not tip the restaurant, or the person doing the Togo order. The Togo person has no rush or care to even get it right. Especially cooperate business. So if you end up waiting 20 minutes for a Togo order. I’m sure the restaurant don’t care.

    These videos give a great perspective because I was on the other side. I was a FOH manager for a restaurant and we did door dash, Uber eats,etc. And when it comes to waiting I feel like the restaurant itself plays a role when you’re waiting. When we get the orders for pick up. You have to accept the order, enter the order on pos system, and then accept on [insert delivery service] and it give you the option to tell the driver how long it’s gonna take. I was pretty dead on accurate most of the time so most of the drivers just picked up and left. But sometimes restaurants gets busy at peak dine in hours and orders are coming from all the apps. If you don’t accept the order the service apps call the restaurant to double confirm. And sometimes we just accept it so it would beeping or getting called bc we are so busy. The driver sees we accepted it but with no time suggestion and we enter it as the drivers walk in which is bad but most of the time if we know we are busy we’ll give a longer pick time. So instead of 10 mins it might 30-40 mins for the driver come by

The delivery guys always ride scooters to save on gas money and have big bins attached to their scooters where they store several orders at a time. They pick up several orders, then deliver several orders all simultaneously. It's great.

If we arrive before the pick up time and the food's ready, it's a good day. :) And restaurant employees, don't get frustrated when we ask you to go through the order with us. I work at a restaurant that receives orders through Doordash. We can also request Doordash drivers to deliver our orders. When we are really busy and quoting our customers a certain amount of time for our orders, that same time applies for Doordash orders but there is no way to get that information to Doordash drivers. Sometimes they show up within minutes of us receiving the order and there is no possible way we can have that order ready nor is it fair to push their order ahead of other orders that were received first. If we are quoting 30 minutes for an order but a driver shows up in 5 minutes because he was in the area, obviously things aren't going to work out for both parties. The same applies when it's a big order that can't possibly made quickly even under optimal circumstances.
    Sometimes we don't receive an order (usually due to technical difficulties) so we don't confirm it when we get an automated call to confirm the order but no one gets in touch with us to see why we haven't confirmed an order and a driver gets dispatched anyways so I wonder what is even the point of confirming orders. On busy nights, we have so much going on that it's really impractical for us to be on the phone on hold when there are so many other things that needs to be done.
    Also, when we request drivers to deliver our food and we are busy, we try to request an appropriate time for when we think the order will be ready but, again, they show up before that time and then get mad at us. Either that information isn't making its way to the drivers or they are ignoring it. There are also instances where we request a driver but it takes forever for one to be assigned to an order and food is just sitting there waiting to be picked up. One of the most infuriating parts of this process is when drivers just indicate that an order "could not be delivered" without making any efforts to get in touch with the customer or with us. We don't find out until 1-2 hours later when the customer calls asking about their order and then we have to investigate. Maybe drivers just do that when they get hungry and want to keep an order?
    I get that this can be frustrating for drivers but it's also incredibly frustrating for the workers that have to deal with all these third parties so a little more understanding from drivers would be greatly appreciated. And for any Doordash drivers reading this, try to be friendly and courteous. Don't just show up and shove a phone in our face because that's rude and annoying as hell.
    From my experience as a restaurant worker, Doordash has major flaws but UberEats and Postmates are absolute garbage.

      @@johnnyp3839 Those are all fair points. The restaurant I work for has its own delivery system that's being replaced by Doordash so I have experienced all of the scenarios you listed on deliveries of my own. However, the thing that sucks about having Doordash drivers fulfill our orders (orders that were placed directly through us, not through the app) is that, as you mentioned, they don't get any sort of compensation for time spent waiting and there is no incentive to make sure it gets delivered to not make us look bad because they don't work for us. Our own drivers would always try to call the customer multiple times if no one was coming to the door and then call the restaurant to explain what is going on so that someone from the restaurant could try calling (sometimes people don't answer random phone numbers but do answer the restaurant number). Then, if there was still no answer, the driver would be told to come back.
      Obviously, that's a huge pain in the ass for someone that gets paid per order and not an hourly wage but it makes our lives more difficult when we get a phone call 2 hours later from a customer checking on their order and then we have to investigate and tell them that the Doordash driver didn't try hard enough. Out of all the "could not deliver" instances, I think only one had a wrong address. The others were just pure laziness because we always verify the address and phone number when we're taking an order, some of which are from longtime customers that we've had no problem delivering to before. When I've told drivers to call us if they encounter any issues with their delivery before indicating that they "could not deliver", some get offended and give me attitude.
      Also, what's up with drivers indicating that the food has been delivered before even picking it up from the restaurant?

    • @bftjoe
      @bftjoe 6 лет назад +2

      @@EligioTapia Yeah it's the customer's job to watch the app/answer the phone, door/give clear delivery instructions. Why should a driver "try hard" when they can go on to another order with a good customer to make more money?

      Joseph Huang if that were policy them many more orders would go undelivered. A significant percentage of orders are declined for 10+ minutes by various drivers until someone finally accepts it. If you add “well this order is now late and I will get a negative rating because of it” to the drivers decision making process, then it’s pretty easy to turn down orders like that.

    • @TheSwedishSousChef
      @TheSwedishSousChef 5 лет назад +2

      Eligio Tapia so you assume that it’s “pure laziness” on the part of the driver, while also assuming that it’s rarely if ever the customer’s fault. I can tell you FOR CERTAIN that EVERY delivery that I failed to complete was the customer’s fault. From not providing a gate code and saying “just wait for another car” to failing to include their apartment number and refusing to answer their phone to not inputting their entire address and having a disconnected number. Yes there are some drivers gaming the system, there are bad apples in any bunch, but it’s almost always the fault of the customer if food cannot be delivered just like if the customer’s order is incorrect then it’s almost always the restaurant at fault....but sure, blame the parcel carrier so no one has to take responsibility for their actions anymore

      MF' Cherry That’s exactly the problem with using multiple platforms at once. I’m signed up for Uber, DoorDash and Postmates. I’ve logged into two at a time and it never fails. No deliveries for both and then they both pop off at the same time. It screws up your acceptance rate and you get less deliveries. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I prefer Uber, even though I get less tips. The platform is much easier to navigate than the others. The ease of payouts and having the food ready and not needing to order and pay is a huge bonus. You need to make it work for you. Only deliver during the busy times. Lunch & dinner.

    I've worked for postmates for a week. I get a ring every 20 mins. Sweet spots: 10 am to 4 pm. 630pm to 10 pm. I've only spent 35 mins at most from start to finish on one trip. Start when you want, end when you want. Not bad. Most I've made in 3 hours is about $60 dollars. And its always the 3 hour sweet spots.

    As a door dash user, I can say that it automatically defaults a tip into your order and you can adjust it to go higher or lower, but I don’t think you can opt out of it completely. I think it’s mandatory. I could be wrong. I always tip, so I’m not sure.

    I started doing DD 2/3/19 made $16.16 working 509pm to 644pm. 2/4 through 2/6 I have worked about 11.5 hours and already made $139.65 plus $10 cash tip and have scheduled myself for 2/7 and 2/8 long shifts as those are my days off at my ft job. I'm actually liking it and making decent side money doing it even if all I grab is a couple of hours at a time. Dash now is great when they are offering the extra per order when busy.

    North Carolina, especially in Charlotte and Gastonia, are very difficult places to work at with doordash. I work from Monday to Friday, 9 hours a day, and as a mother of two autistic kids, it really is hard for me to raise money with the low amount that this app pays me. And unfortunately, most of the places I go to, are just full of inconsiderate people who only give 1-2 dollar tips. 65% of the day, I am not even tipped. I already have to replace my car's tires, because they are burned out after so much driving I did :/

    I'm a software engineer by trade, and make a pretty good living. But, I actually just signed up for Doordash, just to try it out as a hobby (maybe just on Saturdays or some evenings). I'm planning on blowing all the money I'll make on frivolous stuff like makeup and video games and junk food. Maybe I'll even give some to a charity or the homeless. I'm actually really excited. I used to work as a pizza delivery driver in my college years, and had lots of fun doing that :)
