    My choice is simple ;)
    1. Volvo XC90 T8 in Onyx Black
    2. Volvo XC90 D5 in Crystal white
    3. Volvo XC90 T6 in Luminous Sand

    Range Rover drivers not caring about anything outside is just so true. In the U.S. they are usually seen driven aggressively and wrecklessly.
    If money was no object, of course the Range Rover wins with comfort. But, the XC90 is half the price and a bargain in comparison.

    Nice review. I'd go for Volvo for the overall packaging- price, looks, safety features, and comfort.

      Matthew Fox bot for the comfort tho, 4 cyl 2 liter.... More refined with the other cars, but overall yes Volvo!

    Thank you for this thorough review. I find it extremely useful but I have one question. I can understand that you skipped BMW X 5 because X 6 is in the review- I am ok with that. But why you skipped Mercedes ML? The Volvo is at the bottom of my list and you could have replaced it with the ML instead. Thank you.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  9 лет назад

      +Life Extreme Hi! That's quite simple, because the ML underwent a model change and is now facelifted the GLE and we could not get it for driving yet. We will give you a full review of the new Mercedes GLE probably very early next year.

    I would go for the Audi Q7, for the quality ride and the none stressful interior design. This would defenitely help after a long day at work.

    Great review, a few weeks ago I was looking for a review like this. I was in the market for a luxury SUV. Test drove the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and for the first time test drove a Volvo xc90, for the ride quality, interior feel, options, and price we decided on the Volvo xc90 was the best choice for myself. We picked up our new xc90 two days ago and could not be happier. I agree on your choice at the end, Volvo xc90 it feels like a different type of luxury.

    Dear Thomas thank you very much again for this full size SUV comparison. In my opinion, I shall go directly to the VOLVO XC90 for being the best 7 seater SUV in the world in terms of practicality, safety, beauty of int. and ext. design as it has it all without compromise. I reached to that conclusion after examining what the Europeans, Japanese and Americans have for this segment. I just want to ask you to do something if you just try to open and examine any storage compartment you may find in a car as well as glove boxes. And for the glove box, I shall speak about that of the VOLVO XC90 which is something by itself since you can open it by a button in the center console but the point is it opens very softly unlike that of the very expensive Range Rover which falls down harshly when you release it. One more thing please do it that is how does the horn of each car looks like. Thank you very much in advance.

      +Autogefühl These are not full-size vehicles. To begin with...all these cross-overs (except the Range Rover) are based on Compact-Quasi Mid-size Unit-Body Passenger cars. A full-size SUV would be Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon/ Cadillac Escalade (in short/long wheelbase form), Ditto for the Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator(standard/long wheelbase). Test Drive a true Full-Size SUV............I guarantee you will change your mind on what an actual "FULL SIZE SUV".
      Your test example Volvo XC90 has its evolved-roots dating all the way to the 1980s Australian Mitsubishi widened Galant Platform...........which Volvo has been using under license-royalty agreement for what almost 25 years.

    Love these reviews, just so credible. Just got a 2016 Touareg R line with air suspension, largely after watching your review and a couple of test drives. If money were no object I'd love a Porsche but the Touareg is so honest and unpretentious. It just works so well. Unfortunately the waiting list on Touareg is over 6 months in UK.

    5. BMW (I would rate the X5 higher)
    6. Range ROver (no need for that kind of extreme off-road capability)

    Hello Thomas , I apologize for delaying on my review , but since this review was offered specially as per my request, i had the obligation to reply with some real and solid comments and no other way to do that but "Test Driving them all " , thats exactly what i did ! although some of them not available just yet for test driving here in the USA or available in our market for sale Please see below my comments , i will make them short :) ***I just wanted to share with the group*** Im not a professional just a real customer looking for a SUV.
    Starting with the Volvo XC90 , Very nice looks , elegant interior , real nice overall , starts at$49,800 - Test drove $83,000 fully loaded , they did not have any available in cloth seats :( very quiet interior , quality ride and powerful engine , nice car. I could pick a modelXC90 around $70k just as good.
    BMW X6 not available Diesel , test drove X5 diesel , fully loaded $79 , felt more powerful than Volvo , much stiffer ride feel - feels like sport car not SUV, interior is pretty standard - due to an update in my opinion . Honestly hope that BMW would consider bringing in the future to the USA the 8 Cyl. Diesel that you tested. Amazing power.
    VW Toureg - I already knew it, but it felt to me inside a AUDI Q5 not as High end ! I currently drive Q5 TDI and It felt like very similar cars (Touareg its larger ), very nice ride *Much smaller cabin in comparison with the BMW-Volvo , very nice car , Don't like much of the exterior looks , tested $67k fully loaded , indeed a great car for the price.
    Range Rover Diesel - amazing looks, clean sophisticated interior but simple, GPS needs improvement in comparison with all other tested, surprised by the power being a heavier car and small diesel motor , tested $105k model
    Porsche cayenne- Great looks , rides very nice as well , very sporty look interior, tested a $76k car, you can easily spend $85k , also a very quiet ride , stiffer steering but sport feel . a Great car as well.
    Audi Q7 new model not available yet in the USA :(
    Although I will not make a choice for purchase until the new Q7 becomes available in the USA (December 2015) at this moment my pick would be the XC90 . Volvo has done a great job !

    Top of the range Q7 cost $145K in my country.

    I think the Touareg offers best bang for bucks and practicality but I will say that I test driven the cayenne 6 which was impressive the I made the mistake of getting into the V8 diesel ...... brilliant. I really could not believe it was a diesel and the sound was pure magic. We got excellent mileage considering we were driving it hard.

    Audi: Exterior of new Q7 is agly,but interior is very nice,Q7 haves new a lot of new technology.If i choose Q7 , I use 3.0 TDI.
    Bmw:The best engine of all suvs on this test,straight six the best engine configuration of all six cylinder engines.Exterior is good,only front lights is agly,all other is nice.Interior is soo sporty .
    Land Rover(Range Rover):The most luxury and i think only he of all this suvs is good for offroad.Exterior and interior is very nice.This v6 engine is good.but this suv need more poverful engine(3.0 Hybrid or 4.4 disel or 5.0 v8 superchagert).
    Vw:Exterior and interior is not bad,it's very good for me,I more prefer Tuareg then Q7,becouse both suv have very similar engines,Audi Q7 is soo agly exterior and Tuareg is better for offroad than Q7.
    Porsche:With Bmw the sportiest suv,looks great,interior great,engine good,but i more prefer Bmw-s straight six becouse it's more reliable than any other V8 or V6 engine.If i choose, i use this 4.2 Disel.
    Volvo:Great exterior and interior,hybrid system is good,but i think that this Volvo need 3.0 Disel engine with about 310 hp.If i chooice Xc90,i use 2.0 disel.
    Thank you for this test,this is great test.Go ahead.

      +Pipi BL You say the RR needs a bigger engine than the V6, but we have had ours one year and it is definitely not underpowered, if you are towing, then yes, but if you aren't going to tow anything (and if you are in a place like I am where fuel prices are idiotic) then the V6 is a very good engine. 44 MPG sometimes.

    Driving X6 3.0D for 1 year now, amazing in acceleration and driving experience and cheap to run. However I have 2 young family members and occasion need to pick up older ppl as well. Shall I keep the X6, down side is only lack of room and space. Rear seats passagers not happy with it.
    Test Drove XC90 T6 and it seems I lose the fun of driving X6. Very slow respond in acceleration and engine quite noisy comparing to diesel X6....

    Excellent review. Not that much between them and the Volvo does just sneak in though I do love the Porsche, would love to have seen a 'Vogue' Autobiography Hybrid LWB. Of course It's all a matter of personal taste.

    Q7 says to the Volvo xc90, "Thomas called my -ss fat!! Booohhooooo." ..... Volvo xc90, "He's right, and you are trying to hard to look like a station wagon, girl!"

    Rather than the X6, Range Rover, Touareg, and Cayenne it would have been a better comparison if you had put the X5, Discovery (not Discovery Sport), and the Merc GL class.

    Q7 is now a station wagon and not an SUV like the original.

    Hello everyone! How about the Mercedes GL or ML? why didn't compared mercedes aswelll, Thomas?! It does not worth the atention? I think MB make great cats lately. The GL is my first choice for a 7 seater SUV.
    Bmw - great engine+gearbox. 6th and 7th seats are jokes
    Volvo - nice looks i dont like the diesel. never drove the T8
    Audi - lovely interieur, ugly exterieur.
    P.S. i'm looking to buy a 7 seater Suv and for the moment GL is my choice

    as someone said Q7 is not SUV, XC90 my friend owns and had it in a service several times already.. because of some issues, X5 and Cayenne I can't afford it or it just wouldn't look right for me to own it ... so I drive VW V6TDI R LINE and I love it 😊

    Just a tiny correction: when you say you want the steering to be more "progressive", I think you really mean "sensitive" - i.e - you want the wheels to turn more for a given amount of rotation of the steering wheel. Thanks for the excellent reviews though.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 лет назад

      +Greg Sullivan hey greg, yes indeed. Volkswagen calls it progressive indeed.

    • @gregsullivan7408
      @gregsullivan7408 8 лет назад

      +Autogefühl "Progressive", to me, implies some kind of non-linearity - it would mean to me that the sensitivity varied according to how much the steering wheel had already been turned.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 лет назад

      +Greg Sullivan hm I think that's exactly the case?

    • @gregsullivan7408
      @gregsullivan7408 8 лет назад

      +Autogefühl Yes, I think you are correct here. I Googled, and found this paragraph in a review of the Golf GTI: "Volkswagen’s progressive steering is a GTI highlight. Thanks to a variable rack tooth spacing the more lock you dial on, the quicker the steering, with the steering effort increase countered by a progressive ramping up of the electro-mechanical assistance. All the driver feels is a linear steering system that sharpens up its response as the bends tighten."
      So, the sensitivity, in relation to how much the wheels turn for a given steering input, is indeed non-linear, and increases as the steering wheel turns further. HOWEVER, the power assistance is also increased progressively, so that the driver experiences a constant resistance, for a given angular rotation of the steering wheel. :)
      And, if all this is what *you* are asking for, then I guess you were correct to say "more progressive" afterall. ;^)

      +Autogefühl Done. :-)I like all of these SUV's!
      Audi has taken it up to the next step. They have abandoned most of the buttons for on-screen control via the knob (very Mercedes-esque). Although I think the digital dash is a gimmick, I do see the value in it. With the ability to concentrate all of the information in front of the driver, it makes for an easy glance to see everything. But, is seeing everything too much information?

    • @gbriank1
      @gbriank1 9 лет назад

      +Autogefühl I agree with your XC90 choice. While not as dynamic nor performance oriented, it fulfills the daily requirements for a family and its cargo. My second choice would be the Touareg. It has similar features to the Audi, while keeping the costs lower.
      While Rover has improved, most of the changes are under the skin. Frame, suspension and engines are the high points. The interior has a lot of carryover (navigation, steering wheel, seats) that need attention. If you intend to go off-road, this is the vehicle for you (with different tires and wheels).

    My number one is the Range Rover, I think it's one of the most beautiful car of the world.
    I love the XC90 .
    the cayenne is an other class, it is rather sporty, but it still looks really good.
    However I personally don't like the X6 and the Touareg and I find the new Q7 ugly. Only by the exterior, I would even choose the older model of Q7 over this.

    A nice review. I just bought a brand new suv so just watched this to see how other cars compare. The Audi is by far the ugliest car both inside and outside, looks like an 80's car that someone has tried to modernise. But each to their own of course.

Volvo is the only premium manufacturer which is really premium build quality (I mean real premium=>reliable , not just feels premium inside), at least in Great B. www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/gallery/the-20-best-car-brands-listed/
