Thank so so very much! The finger thing is to get them out of the way of my face when I go up high....I cover those holes when Im not playing them cause It makes the harp a little bassier...
Jason, your speed is so DAZZLING...but I really enjoyed hearing the slow blues. I have to admit (in spite of not being a fan of overblowing) I really appreciated your note choices. VERY Tasty stuff, man.
JASON (paisa')I was joking...as I often do ,on you tube, simply to stir..a bit of trouble...in reality I ,like every body else, enjoy your music immensely. .Italy has now discovered the blues and large crowd go to concerts...(e.g..BB king recentley played for 30000)I hope you 'll come on tour one day.
Holy crap!! That is sooo fuckin deep, I don't think a lot of the audience understands half of whats really going on to pull off some of those moves!! BRAVO! Arguably, overall, one of the best harp players of all time!
Hey Jason, at 44, when I grow up I want to be just like you ! You remind of of when I first saw Johnny Lang, and thought where and when in the hell did such a young white kid get so filled with the blues. You guys must have been born on or near the days of when some great blues players passed on, and handed onto you gents the baton !
Just watching you for five minutes taught me more than I've ever known about a harmonica. As in, I picked it up, put my hands the way you do, and wow, did my harmonica bend!
Dude, you are it! Thanks! Miss hearing you rock Donahues in Springfield Ohio. Donahues is no more but the memories you gave us up here at our local dive off the highway Will last beyond the grave. Cheers to you.
Man you got it brother! Poeple will talk about you in years to come just like we talk about little walter today. You are so creative and inspiring i never cared much to learn overblows before i was quite content to play standard cross harp but you've really opened my eyes to the unlimited possibilities of music (not just harmonica). Thank you a million times brother.
Either way is fine but knowledge will never hurt you and can only increase your chances of success. You don't have to lear everything over night but some simple scale/theory (Not reading) exercises will really help you think and develop independtly. Thanks J
Gotta say, as an old guy (58+), but fairly live-let-live, who started his blues career with the likes of T-Bonbe Walker, Joe Turner and George 'Harmonica Smith' (for harp ref), I will say the initial view at this cat was a little WTF... Then I heard him blow... Learn something new every day.
Pursed lip breathing is one of the simplest ways to control shortness of breath. It provides a quick and easy way to slow your pace of breathing, making each breath more effective. Google + 3 seconds .... F0.oL but, awesome sounds :) keep on!
@BobDenby My sentiments precisely, Bob! I had no idea who Jason Ricci was until several clicks ago. I'm 'finding' the harp again since letting it lie as a kid. This has been one of those delightful "A-HA!" discoveries. I'm a musician, as I'm guessing most people who follow and respond to material like this are, and hearing Jason's playing truly provided that connection to something greater -- that indescribable gut feeling you get when you just know something's right. No 'dislike' button needed!
Thank you all!!!
It's gone now but I miss it.Thanks for watching...
This site rocks for everything! Thanks for watching!

Just Jason and a harp--nice!

Lip pursing is using just your lips not your tongue to get one note at a time. Nice technique for getting me to answer btw. worked. Ha.

The 8blow to 6overblow seems to be a trademark lick for Jason. Heard him call it his BB King lick if I remember correctly. Really cool.

Just watching you for five minutes taught me more than I've ever known about a harmonica. As in, I picked it up, put my hands the way you do, and wow, did my harmonica bend!
the beginning of your second tune sounds strikingly like "Alberta Alberta" by Eric Clapton, haha!
AMAZING! Thank you!
I do not know if you have inspired me to keep playing or give up lol
damn it's cool
Jason-it's very sweet and touchy blues. Fantastic. What I like about you that you never get harsh on your harmonica reeds. That's great.
Dude, you are it! Thanks! Miss hearing you rock Donahues in Springfield Ohio. Donahues is no more but the memories you gave us up here at our local dive off the highway Will last beyond the grave. Cheers to you.

@joch230 You're right on. The 8 blow to 6 overblow is most def a JR trademark, although I shamelessly use it all the time :)
Love his phrasing. Really like his tone and his control-esp. On overblows
