It is good to see that more people who prefer real books; I think that we should start a petition to get Black Expression restarted it may to be under new owner (s).
GREAT LIST. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 we desperately need a black bookstore in the twin cities...we had them when i was a child, last one closed about 20 years ago, leaving a huge void in our community.
We need a library of our own, not a white one because they’re the first to colonize knowledge! We need a black library! At least one in somewhere Africa, like Nigeria or something that we can get books from!
You made it to Vallejo, but didn't cross the bridge to find one of the oldest black-owned books in the US - Marcus Books. "Marcus Books (formerly "Success Printing") is the oldest bookstore that specializes in African-American literature, history, and culture in the United States.[1] For many years, it has been located in the Western Addition neighborhood of San Francisco, with a second location in Oakland, California. The store has remained independent and family-owned since its founding,[1] and it is considered a community space for African-American and literary culture in the San Francisco Bay Area"
@notconvincedgranny You are exactly correct the oldest Marcus Book should have been on this list of Black own book store. Unfortunately Marcus Book store no longer exists here in the SF CA area in the famous fillmore area. But I think their second book store is still active in the Oakland area atleast they could have mention the one located in Oakland area.
Living in New Jersey. Sadly I'm not knowing of North Jersey... Harriet"s 📚 Book Store & Uncle Bobbie's in Philadelphia I'm Googling now 📚 ..for directions Thank you Black Excellist..A wonderful day I will have... 📚
I cannot believe you FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE MARCUS BOOKS in Oakland, CA. Marcus Books is the San Francisco Bay Area's oldest and most respected African-American owned bookstore! It has been in business for 50+ years!!!
No mention of Frontline Bookstore (which is also a publishing company) or Underground Bookstore???? 🧐😐🤔🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨 These are both located in Chicago and very easy to find. They are literally one of the cornerstones of the Black community. Please add an addendum to this list

I went to junior high school with Omar from The Listening Tree. I love that his store was recognized here.
