A lot of information to take in, but I will watch it several times. So many stabilizers which I find confusing so this will be a great help. Thank you Terry x
Terry! This one is packed full of information. Great job!!!! Thank you for all that you do!! A repair tech told me never to use Isacord, Floriani, thread. Only Madeira. I have always used Isacord and have been using Floriani Glide too. I've had some of it since 2007. Do you have guidance on how long thread lasts? I change needles after every project or two. You're right. Needles are cheap compared to other things. When you say "float stabilizer" to the back, would you recommend taping it down? Have you ever had an issue where you have created a basting box and when it goes to stitch out, it doesn't catch? I've had that occur on my last two projects when I have created the basting box. I usually use 75/11 unless it's thick material. Is that OK?
Carol Weber - let me try to answer your questions in order: I have used Isacord for years on all my Embroidery machines with no issues. I have some Madeira as well. I do not think the tech knew what he was talking about. I have some 20 year old embroidery thread that works well in my machine. The big thing is keeping your thread out of dust and sunlight. If the thread keeps breaking, change to a different spoil of the same brand and test. The problem may be an old thread that needs to be replaced. I have seen this with some black rayon thread. The issue you are experiencing with the basting box can be alleviated if you will pull the thread (while the presser foot is up) and have a longer length. That will give it some thread to lock with the bobbin. When I float stabilizer (tear away) I do not tape it. I simple place it under the hoop. I use 75/11 needles all the time.
Just now watching through all your videos. What was it you put between the top and bottom of your magnetic frame? Is that to make it easier to separate when you use it next?
The magnetic hoop I showed in this video was a Dime Hoop. Dime ships their hoops with a corrugated plastic divider. Magnetic hoops should always be stored with something between the hoop and the magnets.
Thanks Terry! Can you tell me more about the magnetic hoops. I'm in Australia and they are not readily available here. I did purchase some from DIME. There is a lot of conversation about them being unsafe for our machines. What is your understanding of their use. I sometimes wonder if we are told certain things because dealers don't have them. I know you also talked about needles and my brother machines come with organ needles and yet we can't seem to get them here in Australia. We have been told they are not made by the same company now and the steel is not as good. They tell us to buy universal needles because that's what they sell over here. Very frustrating! Most of my learning is done though RUclips videos like yours thank you for your help.
Dianne O'Donnell - Most of my needles are Organ. My dealer sells Bernina and Brother machines and carries the needles, You can buy them in bulk from a company called Allstitch.net. I typically use Universal needles for most everyday sewing. The Dime Hoops are sold by several US Companies including Dime, Amazon, and Nancy’s Notions. I reached out to a dealer on a FB group I joined to ask her if she would sell a hoop internationally. Dime has recently released larger hoops for the Dream Machine and Luminaire. Many dealers carry their hoops and demonstrate them on Babylock and Brother machines. When I use the Dime Hoops, I always do a Trace with the hoops to make sure that the design is within the hoop size I selected. Years ago, we were warned to keep magnets away from computers and sewing machines but the hoops are safe around the newer machines,
Terry Maffitt thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I really appreciate your help and support for people out here like myself that are struggling with this new technology. I'm from the older generation and it takes me a little longer to grasp things at times so I am really grateful for your free help. Can't thank you enough! 🤗
Good information just wish I could get it all in writing. Guess will just have to watch several times and take notes. Thank you.
Very informational. Great video.. Thank you.

foreverwestlife1 - if you have a chance watch one if the Floriani and OESD live events. Dime also has stabilizers.
Terry Maffitt Thank you Terry x
Great teaching Terry!! I passed it along to all my embroidery friends
I would suggest a video on how to use magnetic hoops. I am excited to start using them. I've heard that there is a process to using them.

Hi Terry is there a way in PE Design 11 to convert applique to stitches? if so do you have a youtube on that?

@@terrymaffitt4012 Thanks. I have not used one yet
What do you recommend for spray basting? I'm hesitant to use it because of the glue on the needle. Thank you
Carol Weber I use 505 spray and only as much as I need. Spray in a well vented area and use a box to prevent over spraying.
Great tutorial thanks
very informative thanks Terry
