To Tom , Thank you , for all you do ! ( love your content) And to Amy , I’m so sorry for you & your family’s loss .
Thank you so much for pushing through leaving a legacy. And making a positive impact for our fur loved ones .
My pet bull passed away from DCM in January 2024
When she was diagnosed with DCM the veterinarian cardiologist enrolled her into an FDA heart study , 3 months into the 🤍study it’s was showing that the DCM was caused from the diet( grain free dog kibble )
I was feeding Origin / acana , grain free ( suggested by the previous veterinarian because of her skin allergies she kept getting puppy pyoderma)
I fed that to her for 7 years . ( ignorantly) after the DCM diagnosis
Immediately, I started doing research and learned quickly that there is no dog kibble out there that is nutritious. So I got with a veterinarian nutritionist, and she taught me how to make raw meals for my fur babies. My girl Sage loved 2 1/2 more years after her diagnosis and in those 2 1/2 years feeding BARF DIET . Her veterinarian cardiologist about a year in this journey , “Exclaimed that she had never seen such a drastic turnaround”!. My girls heart had almost gone down to regular size . And that she was no longer in heart failure. And she did amazing for 2 and a half years after DCM diagnosis. She passed away in our back yard , we were playing Kong , she passed away in my husbands arms , ( she collapsed) and the last thing she heard was how much we all love her . And I made a VOW to NEVER feed dog kibble to any dog ever again . I also feed BARF diet to my cat .
I am so very grateful for you guys 🙏🏼🤍🐶🙏🏼🐈‍⬛🤍🙏🏼

💖LOVE THIS💖 In a very short 100 years, due to marketing and greed, the general public has forgotten what real food is for humans and pets. Your video is one of the BEST, all-encompassing videos on dog nutrition I've seen, and I've been researching nutrition videos since 2009 (old school style book research before that). THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing Tom and Amy, even painful things that inspired you to do more. It's so true about the nutrition across the board. I grew up in farmland, digging in the dirt to grow real food and mucking barns for farm stock. I know where real food comes from (NOT a box or bag). Even so, I went through my fun 20's and neglected some of that. It was while doing research for my pets that I resurrected my whole food and fresh food regimen for myself. I was making golden paste for them (turmeric/coconut milk/pepper) and making sure they got their fish oil, getting fresh whole foods from farmers markets and farms and I thought "why the heck am I NOT doing this for myself?!" It tastes so much better, I feel so much better. And STILL so many friends and neighbors were *so alarmed* that I'm feeding real food to my animals instead of burnt manufactured biscuits! I'm getting more and more friends and coworkers asking me questions now. Coworkers gather around me at lunch to see what I'm eating today (my Dandelion Pesto is a favorite - there's a lot of jokes, but I have a good sense of humor) I know that sticking up for myself and good health is breaking through the ignorance, bit by bit. I have plenty of strength to swim against this ludicrous river of ignorance. Soon it will be a tiny creek and the foolishness will reveal itself. Will all those vets ever apologize? The good ones have already started researching raw, and some have expressed regret for bad advice. If a vet hasn't started this process, it's not a good sign - they're unlikely to get my business. My vets support my raw feeding and understand it's value, while they exhort me to make sure it's well balanced (it is). I greatly appreciate the hard work of vets, but I'm sorry they're so brainwashed in the area of nutrition. We need them to lift their heads up out of the muck and wake up regarding nutrition. But heck, we need that with our own medical doctors too. Thank you so much for keeping up The Good Fight! It's changing things for sure. When I started, I couldn't purchase raw, I had to make it myself. I like doing that, but it's often difficult with my schedule. I LOVE the options to buy now! This is a huge benefit to me and my fur fam. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! 💖🌞💖

My 4 year old Boxer Charlie and my 8 year old Chihuahua have been eating raw for years. They have both been with me since they were 8-10 weeks old and I only had them eating kibble for a couple of months. My Boxer did not do well in any kibble, even the higher end stuff. He had bad colitis issues on kibble. Going raw changed everything for him. No more runny stools with the occasional blood streak. He put on size as well. Cost is stunning. They are both thriving on raw. They eat beef, lamb, venison, sardines, and rabbit. We supplement with fish oil, coenzyme q10, turmeric, free range organic brown eggs, a multivitamin, probiotics, and the list goes on! We do two full blood panels a year. We do dental cleanings. Everything is always monitored. Kibble is not the answer. Raw is the way.

Very educational video. I have been fixing meals for my dobie, primarily beef and chicken. I have been cooking since I have lost last 2 dobies to cancer and the cooking was more for me not my new boy. I started after DCM scare and now knowing where the meat in kibble comes from. I had my vet turn up her nose because I had cut kibble. If I won’t eat it I will not feed it. Purina Pro Plan is quietly being taken off shelves currently.

It really is amazing for our animals, and can actually be cheaper than commercially prepared foods ❤❤
We make ours at home ourselves (disclaimer, do intense research if you decide on this because you can cause deficiencies and overdosing vitamins etc) our pets have all benefitted from home prepared food for half the price of shop bought foods

For me, feeding raw is actually cheaper than than if I fed kibble because my dog is a toy poodle/Bichon Frise mix who only weighs 10 lbs. It literally costs me $50.00/month to feed her raw because she also only eats chicken or turkey. It would definitely cost me more to feed her a high quality kibble.

Btw, one of our best dog pals is far less anxious now that she's on a raw diet. She's a very high energy border collie x aussie shepherd whom we lovingly call Hyper Piper. :) I think my friends were feeding her "high quality" kibble and even tried the vet-supplied Royal Canin which vets here in Canada seem to push hard. I've read the ingredients on their products and they are just like every other kibble out there. I wish it were illegal for processed pet food to be sold at pet doctors (vets!) offices. Imagine if your own family doctor was selling food to you...they'd probably be pushing KD and canola oil along with your pain meds.

I feed my nine month old puppy raw, after feeding my other dogs (who are now gone) kibble or decades. My last dog would go between my mom's house and my ex husbands (long story there) and when I saw how overweight he was at twelve, I realized his diet was the source of his being overweight (newsflash) and the reason he was having such a difficult time with mobility (he was almost unable to support his rear legs). My son, who is twenty-two, has a year and half old pit mix and he feeds her home cooked and raw meals. When I saw how healthy and muscular and happy she was, I was inspired to feed my dog raw and I am so happy I do! It's funny that I watched this podcast when I did because yesterday I met a young lady who was walking her fourteen year old dog, and this dog was walking like a two year old or three year old dog. She told me her dog was on a raw diet and her parents have a dog who is EIGHTEEN who has been fed raw since he was a puppy. If that isn't convincing evidence that REAL FOOD is better for dogs, I don't know what is.

Are there any reliable studies that evidence the benefits of raw food vs fresh food vs kibble? I like the idea of raw, and even more, fresh, but I'm not going to do a switch to something that expensive with risks (complete nutrition, bacteria, etc) without actual evidence that it's better.
I understand the drawbacks we perceive about kibble, but I need evidence - not of the anecdotal kind. I absolutely believe big dog food has a lot of sway and effects the narrative, but I want to see evidence that fresh, or more divisively, raw, has a significant impact on life. It seems like all I can find are weak studies from raw food companies, which are just as untrustworthy as a study done by big kibble.

All the vets I spoke to advised against raw food. After watching a bunch of videos from Dr Karen Becker I bought him raw food and his problems went away within 6 weeks. Sadly he died of a stomach tumour at age 11. I think if I had of been feeding raw from the beginning he probably would have never got the tumour. My new dog has been eating raw since he was 10 weeks old and he’s very healthy! The proof is in every dog owner that feeds their dog raw!

That is what they are waiting for day in & day & hopefully before their time is up & they end up being killed for no other reason than free runs are needed. There is a trainer in Canada called Evan Doggett (yes, that's his name) and he highly supports the fact that a lot of behavioural problems with dogs is related to what they're being fed. He's also a big raw feeder and he believes that a lot of reasons for dogs acting out is possibly because of digestive pain based on the kind of processed food they are being fed?

I'm the opposite....My Mom was feeding Raw Meat (beef) that she was getting straight from Cow farm....I have yet to find "Raw Meat" that was to the standard as I saw as a child, as I fed the whole breeding program Mom had.. Cats/Dogs.
All I keep finding is Meat with fillers & BONE chips. That to isn't meat. I have returned many brands.
Yes, I remember 2007 I did extensive research on brands, especially in 🇨🇦. I have switched brands several times until I found 🇨🇦 brand kibble that is actually made in my city. I have also found canned meat also from my city that is only meat no fillers.
I would gladly go to Raw Meat, but it's just crap in my area cost is inflated.
I don't rely on kibble for nutrients, I also give numerous supplements that I hide in the meat.

All good "high quality" "fully balanced" "nutritious" 'happy dog' on the cover of the packet, "science based" "science backed, proved" like omg. thats what fools all people if they don't, stop, think about it and research if they really care about what their feeding their dog and why their dog won't eat the food. Kibble is so hard unappetizing and dry for a dog in squashed shapes and sizes, like what. AND NOT TO MENTION the COST and EXPENSE of the 'top brand' 'natural' 'organic' blah blah kibble sold it supermarkets and animal stores. $100's of dollars.

The only issue with raw food is, as it becomes more popular, just like with everything else, you will then have people who will make it cheaper, sacrificing quality - Walmart Fresh Pet is an example.

We did a lot of research into dog foods before we got our Great Dane. There are so many crappy foods on the market it's just not funny. Unfortunately the cost of raw feeding is a turn off for most pet owners along with the time it takes to prepare. We tried it for a while but the quality of the place we were getting it from dropped off and made our dogs sick. We have gone to making our own cooked veggies and put that with a good quality kibble. We are in South Australia so we don't have access to a lot of alternative options. Most vets are sponsored by pet food companies that are not great quality even though they have a well known brand name.

@tomdavisofficial I’d love to see a video where you have a conversation with the phd nutritionist we feed raw suggests formulated their meals! Or at least someone from that department. I’d have a better peace of mind, and perhaps true for folks that are open minded to raw diets but on the fence, understanding the motivation and scientific findings of the benefits of raw over kibble or raw over a kibble/cooked meat hybrid from the source than from someone whose domain is in marketing. No disrespect to this woman and her expertise as her insight is still valuable but seems more anecdotal imo.

Feeding raw is so important to our meat eating pets! Both my dog and cat are on raw and I wouldn't feed anything else. I'm always telling people to invest in quality food now instead of vet bills later. Anyone feeding kibble is slowly poisoning their pets. It's absolutely not ok. The excuse that it's too expensive is BS because when your dog isn't feeling well, you gotta go to the vet and the bill is not gonna be pretty. JUST FEED YOUR PETS BETTER!!! Educate yourself!

Try giving an egg on top of the kibble. Crack it in a bowl, microwave for 30 seconds, so cooked whites, runny yolk beest for nutrition and absorbing it. At least its something.

Tom, I love your training content, but this is not it. A company telling tales and using buzzwords to present their product as the best and piggy backing on internet-wide sensationalist fear mongering of regular people about their animals isnt top training. Millions of dogs have lived, and continue to live, long and healthy lives on good quality dry food. The shaming and fear mongering needs to stop.
There are more evidently impactful issues in this space such as the widespread obesity crisis in pets, dental hygiene, and responsible health checking in breeding which are guaranteed to cause health issues in people's animals.
Also very disappointed that you chose to shut down, and delete, the feedback from your audience on instagram.

@@thebestthingthatneverhappe6729 our dogs are thriving on pro-plan. Also, Barking Heads and Gentle dog food are good options we've used in the past. Top of my head I'd also probably include Carnilove in there, but we've only used their treats and not the food. We're in the UK so maybe standards are less deplorable than the US? (that's usually the way for food, medicine, animal welfare etc.)

    • @thebestthingthatneverhappe6729
      @thebestthingthatneverhappe6729 6 месяцев назад +2

@jabbott376 it looks like all of those brands use feed grade ingredients, all extruded which means rancid fats and carcinogenic compounds, carniloves main protein sources are from meat meals, which means the protein source is heavily processed and not as easily absorbed... it may be hard to find the higher quality in the UK.
In the USA it's easier to get carna 4 or honest kitchen clusters which are dry foods but not extruded. Open Farm is also a solid dry food but it is extruded.

I started my dog " Giant Schnauzer" off on a Raw Diet. For some reason she decided she would no longer eat it. Went to part Raw/ Part Kibble, that worked for a while. Now I have to Express pot 10 pounds of chicken mix in fresh vegetables and a small amount of kibble. If I put Raw Chicken, or Raw Beef in her bowl she will let it rot. What should I do? I get human quality fresh meats but the only way she will eat it is if I cook it?

They can't just go from kibble to raw food, cooking the food is great. Gradually shifting from cooked to raw would be the best for your dog, a small bit at a time. Otherwise as you said they'll get sick and vomit.

Love your videos, Tom. This was a great convo.
On a personal note, I found that my pup doesn't do well on raw meat dog food - at least the brands we tried when he was young. From the time I got him at about 8 weeks old, once every 4 to 8 weeks, consistently for almost 2 years, he would get a bout of diarrhea. I thought he was eating who-knows-what on trails or picking up bugs from other playmates. But my vet suggested cooking his meat, which I did, and he's been fine ever since. (Note that the raw meat dog food brands often say "DO NOT COOK" which is alarming so I just bought human grade meat to cook.) It's quite possible that the raw dog food was laden with some bacteria (or levels of bacteria) that his body wasn't happy with. And maybe his body wasn't happy with it because he had been on kibble once he was weened (which was before I got him). I don't know how raw pet food is regulated here in Canada but I've heard it's like the US in that it's nowhere near what human grade food is. So, now, he and I generally eat the same. I am happy to make his food and it has changed the way I eat as well. We eat protein, veg & some fruit. No grains (hardest for me), no sugar and no dairy. As the human, lol, I am doing this because I'm trying to solve some chronic, severe and lifelong health issues. As the pup, well, he has little choice, lol, but he seems to love his meals, is healthy and has no issues to speak of at now over 5 years old (moyen poodle). I will also note that I am definitely not somebody that makes a lot of money, so it IS possible to eat and feed your pet unprocessed food on a budget. Frankly, the rest of the grocery store now seems like cheap, empty calories that cost health dollars anyway which is too big of an ask of me. I am always shocked at what is in some dog food and treats - molasses (!), garlic (!!) and all the super processed/refined gums & thickeners humans don't thrive on either (guar, etc.). The most unhealthy dogs we've met have been on kibble their entire lives. It breaks my heart...they tend to have lumps all over their bodies, struggle to breathe, have terrible oral problems (which I'm sure impacts their hearts and other organs), have sight issues fairly young, etc. Imagine eating crackers your whole life. That's what I equate kibble to. It must dry the absolute F out of every cell in a body which is a recipe for disaster. Ugh. Anyway, thanks for some great info. I hope many, many people watch this. ❤

I have a Corso she a year and a half and been on raw since day one with us . A family member got another Corso around the same time they have changed her kibble so many times, she has hives from allergies and urinary track infections off and on an ear infections. It was like night and day just touching their coats . He’s changing to raw a it’s only been a little over a week and the change is amazing already. It’s awesome to see how adding blueberries 🫐,chicken, and eggs can change a dog for the better . Also I think it’s awesome to hear about raw feeding on this and a lot more channels now.
