- The Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked a U.S. warship in the Red Sea after a reported third strike by U.S. and UK fighter jets in Yemen on Sunday. The U.S. CENTCOM claimed that the anti-ship cruise missile, fired from Houthi-controlled areas towards USS Laboon, was shot down. Yemeni media said that the U.S. and the UK carried out a strike before Houthi response in the Hodeida province on Jan 14. However, the U.S. denied any attack by the coalition in Yemen. I notice that the Hindustan Times constantly refers to the Houthis as the “Iran-backed” Houthis but never to Israel as “US-backed” Israel.

Yeah because it’s well known for many decades that the US backs the state of Israel. Houthis however, have very little international recognition because they lack sovereign status. They’re basically just stirring the shit pot along with many other militias in the middle east. They can only get recognition by proxy through the Iran regime.
Isn't that to distinguish them from proper Yemenis?
Because the Houthis are terrorists, just like Hamas, and without Iran, they can't terrorize anybody. It's important to point out who is behind all this mess. Just to remind you, Hamas attacked first, not Israel. Also, the U.S. is not 'actively' helping Israel. If anything, they are trying to curb Netanyahu's response. They're there to keep Iran out of the conflict.

@@vedpal7435 there are two types of smoke the whitish smoke is pouring out of the SIDE OF THE SHIP, and the BLACK smoke is pouring out of the DECK of the ship, it looks like the missile hit the ship in the side hence the white smoke pouring out of the hole and the black smoke pouring out of the deck is the smoke i would say from the fire within burning. I think IT DID GET HIT FOR SURE but we will have to wait and see if that ship heads to port straight away for repairs, so i guess a waiting game to see where the ship goes or stays.

Fighter aircraft like the FA18 Super hornet are constantly in the air doing patrols so they are able to detect any projectile fired towards them. Also the radars installed on these ships are capable of detecting cruise missiles fired by houthis and engages them with surface to air missiles

The problem with shooting at US warships is that they shoot back. And they don't miss. Ask the Iranian Navy - 1988. An Iranian missile boat did just that. And - typically - missed. The US warship politely called them and told them to stop and evacuate. "I intend to sink you." The Iranians apparently believed them and did just that. Then the US warship fired at the Iranian ship and it sank. So... the moral of the story is don't shoot at the USN, particularly if you miss.
