Steve Armstrong I’m making another film soon charting another murder of a Reiver by James V, but also his downfall which was somewhat caused by Armstrong’s and other Borderers not supporting him at the battle of Solway Moss Cheers for watching😁
It’s so beautiful. T.y. Mark. I was thinking the tower would have left much more debris , stone materials.....seems like it would be a rather remote place to scavenge Stones from❓
@@MarkNicol123 There was a hanging tree at Branxholme Castle too I believe Mark. The Bloody Burn that runs down from the old Branxholme Town to the Castle is a very interesting and mysterious place should you ever want to explore it ;-) My ancestors lived there before moving into Hawick in the 1700's. There is also the story of the Bonny Lass of Branxholme... Her Mother Jean the Ranter (witchcraft) and Blind Wullie Craw... All relatives ;-)
The damnedest thing is, that while the romanticism and nostalgia that is indulged in with the reivers is prevalent, the reality of the time was assuredly no different than the sentiment that would be expressed now. "Someone has to get this under control!" Done and done. There's been many, many a Monday morning to quarterback this game, lol.
Is the walk in quite accessible, It looks a wee bit rough underfoot or perhaps that is just the drone footage ? Have you considered writing a 'walk' directory for folks trying to recreate your adventures ? Loved the video.......
June Stewart cheers June. It’s easy enough to walk to once you locate it, most of the stone lying about is debris from the tower. Directory sounds like a great idea, if I ever get time I’ll do it 😁
I know about a coventanters cave and a mass burial, i lived at Talla for 15 yrs i now live in Moniaive. (Gods country) Wondering if you know any information about coventanters gold? Ta
Gary Nicoll I don’t think I’ve heard of Covenanters Gold? Have you been in the cave at Talla? Or is it just a story? Have made a film last year about Covenanters at Talla, have a look.... ruclips.net/video/py85M2bYKng/видео.html
The cave is in Moniaive that i speak of, although the cave that is said to be at Talla, i have no knowledge apart from my father was a shepherd for 23 yrs on the Gairlot hill where it is supposed to be and he never did find it. The mass burial i mention is a selection of cairns that is also a star map, on the land where the head coventanter priest lived in 1559. in the house where i live now. Gold is linked to religion in every society and im sure gold would have been worshped on sacred ground to symbolize the rise and fall of the sun both at Talla and in Moniaive, the only two places they held huge religious gatherings. People first moved to Moniaive in 1600s because it was a gold mining village.
young king james v , we had the last laugh , he's gone and we're still here.
