I'm don't know how to put this but could someone enlighten this part of the story. The part where He says that "we become one forever" He is stating this for the Human-flesh eating thing. Is it that his 1st plate was of his mother. Could it be that the reason of why he went from a complete normal guy to a psycho because of this? The reason why I'm saying the first meat he ate was his mother, is because they ate only females. So maybe his dad started it or something. So that he could be ONE with the one he loved or something. Idk....
yeah, I took it as Ann was one of his previous victims. He got her pregnant and decided to keep her because having a family is the perfect cover. He didn't seem super close with his wife, and seemed to treat her like a trophy. I took the part of her holding her face back and him inspecting her as she is starting to look too old for him. He is a plastic surgeon and a perfectionist, so he was looking to replace her. With Noa he thought he could have the perfect partner. He seemed desperate for someone to see him for who he was and still want him.
I think that he changed Anns face (plastic surgery), so that none could recognise her. thats why she was looking so strange in the mirror, but I'm not sure :)))
I was also starting to think he was going to replace Ann with Noa because, well it seemed like in his pov that they were perfect for each other. It was obvious they didn’t love each other.
The first half an hour or so plays like your standard, run of the mill, romantic drama. But as soon as the title card appeared, that's when you know that you're in for one twisted movie! 🤯😱
I love how the guy she was on a date with at the beginning of the movie represented 95% of guys on online dating sites. He wanted her to look and act like a feminine traditional woman but when the dinner bill came, he expected her to be a modern feminist and pay for half of the meal. Then expected her to make-out with him. Of course she refuses to sleep with him then he goes from fake nice to mean guy. Nailed it!
Yeah this like most movies now is the men are bad troupe. This whole concept that this guy would be this cheap or that he would comment on her clothing is ridiculous. My wife tried to say this happened to her to but I pointed out that she was talking about male friends not guys she was dating.See this the feminist blind spot men you date and men you are related/friends with don’t act the same. And that once a person opens up to you their flaws become visible.
@@dangerstats3575 So, you show disdain for one trope directed at a specific demographic...Most movies, as in what genre(s)? You know a lot about dating men, be it online or in-person, to which differs from your male friends? Can share your experience in numbers or in detail? Cheers, mate.
Loved the movie. I think that Ann was there to make the point of how there are women who will assist predatory men either by ignoring it or assisting or even defending the men. Ann blamed Noa for things going wrong n Mollie stated "women like u r the real problem"

The amount of red flags from him answering questions only after her, how little she knew about him and how much he knew about her, to going away with him a couple days of knowing him; like girl open your eyes
according to the movie iTs onLy ThE MeNs FauLt EnTirely which i can agree but my empathy for her lacked quite a bit. I mean it really was a stupid choice on her end
But the thing is, those kinds of things are very normal in romantic comedies, which this film is kinda satirizing. It’s romanticized for women to throw caution to the wind for the men they are interested in in romantic comedies. Also, they are red flags from our eyes because we are viewers of this film. To her, it would feel very different. Let’s please stop blaming her. He’s the psycho eating women and selling them. That’s not exactly something you expect. Let’s give women a break please
I assumed Ann wasn't only a previous victim, but his partner in business. Like I think she was actively helping him network and sell the meat. She told their bodyguard guy to put Steve on ice. I 100% think she is part of the community of cannibals. She may have started as a victim, but she settled into the role of at least murder accomplice. Again going back to Mollie "women like you are the problem". Because even women who face abuse in the past, can fall into the passive perpetrator role by protecting and aiding people like those who first abused them. She literally paid her pound of flesh to gain admittance and protection to the "boys club" of cannibals. Her checking her face was insecurity that another woman might take her place, even after she essentially gave up parts of herself to feel like she was finally "safe" i.e. being married and attaining financial success and a family. I assume, she felt threatened because her sacrifice to achieve it (her flesh and that of multiple other women) previously made her believe she was superior because she didn't end up on a plate. And Noa reminded her there is always a fresher piece of ass out there, if your partner has the appetite to seek it out.
Yeah, definitely some weird stockholm syndrome. She was more repulsed with the idea of him cheating on her than being a cannibal lmao. She clearly had some form of emotional attachment to Steve because she attacked Noa right away when she saw her
Your comments makes me think that maybe there are two layers to the movie title "Fresh," one being cannibalism-wise, the other being the side plot of some men always finding their wives too old and wanting younger women.
I strongly believe the movie is implying that Ann was a previous victim that Steve fell in love with. That's why it showed her looking at the romantic dinner setting, this means that once upon a time, Steve did the same with her. I think that's why she isn't very sad when she sees him dead, she's been suspecting that he fell in love with one of the victims.
Let‘s not forget the note in the magazin. Maybe Ann was the one writing the message because if him giving her the magazin to read means that he likes her, he must have liked the other woman aswell. The woman who wrote the message was later seen in a picture where you couldn‘t really see much of the actual person. My theorie is that he fell in love with the woman, slept with her, made her pregnant and then did reconstructiv surgery on her, gave her a wig and changed her name so her few relatives couldn‘t recognize her. Thats also why she lifted her face in the mirror… it isn‘t hers.
I thought the part where the guy pulls up looking for mollie, then proceeds to leave was hilarious. Not only did it break the cliche of the man saving the day, but also the cliche of horror movie victims not doing the smart choice lol
But it also highlights the bystander effect. He saw the problem, but did nothing to act on it except look the other way. Even a “nope, that’s the police’s problem not mine” would have been a bit better
Also!! when Noa was looking at the trophy wall she got a glimpse of the phones and realized that Steve had Mollie's phone and probably had her hostage as well, that's why she ran straight down to save her and Penny
I really went into this movie with the only expectation of it being a rom-com. Let me tell you my heart was pounding out of my chest when she started to feel drugged. This movie had me on EDGE

I agree with the interpretation, broadly, that Ann is most likely also a victim of her husband, and likely some manner of stockholm syndrome is likely going on here. I feel its another layer to how our villain is a man who views people as, well, meat. Not even the person whom he is married to is safe from him. But, it could also be a sign that she is an exception to her husband's superficiality. That mystery is likely the point, that we don't know if she was someone originally meant to be carted off to other cannibals, someone he married and then maimed, or if she was already missing a limb when they met. We don't know, and aren't supposed to, but it adds a nice layer of mystery and backstory in this story.
Whats weird is how she was giving orders to that one guy. Either he just brought her into the 'business' and they take order from both, but idk. They didnt even seem fazed by his death just wrap him up like the rest of the meat. But ya as soon as we see her leg, I thought immediately she was a previous victim gone stockholm lover.
I felt like she was the person that left that message in the magazine, when they showed that person in the photo it looked like it could be her. And she changed her name even she married him? Probably both have fake name
Definitely thought Ann was a former victim as well.. very weird how she had no reaction to his death and wanted to put him on ice though.. wish they would have gone more into their backstory as a couple
I think this movie is also indicative of what I believe Marilyn Frye refers to as the “double bind” of oppression, whereby all oppressed groups, women included, are caught in a paradox where there is never a correct way to act in the eyes of society. The film shows how Noa has internalized these ideas. When she thinks that guy is following her at the beginning of the film, but he isn’t, she calls herself stupid but also blames and berates herself when she is kidnapped. It’s so exhausting, and it’s why victims are always blamed. They can’t win in the eyes of society. One one hand, society is saying: “Loosen up, you prude, stop being so uptight, you won’t have sex with me or go on another date with me? Then you’re a crazy, frigid b*tch, stop being so angry, nOt All MeN.” On the other hand, they’re saying (including some of the people in the comments lol): “You let your guard down for one second? Wellll, I’m not saying it’s your fault, but you’re seriously a dumb b*tch and kind of a slutttt too and it shouldn’t be a surprise that something bad has happened to you. You should be wary of all men. They’re just wired that way.” Like, if they’re wired that way, then why are you saying not all men? And we’re caught in the middle looking back and forth, like, wtf do you want me to do? But that’s the point: they’ve caught us in the middle, and our internalized misogyny does the rest of the work. As much as I like to think I’ve unlearned some of that internalized misogyny, it still creeps up on me too. Still so much work to do in society to make sure that perpetrators of these crimes are blamed 100% for their own vile actions and abuses of power, and not the survivors and victims.
I think Ann is the first person that Steve ate, I think she gave her leg for him to consume and that's maybe what he was referring to when he went on that schpeal about "completely surrendering yourself to someone forever." But when the "fresh meat" came about, Steve gave into his cravings for Noa. I think that that is why they highlighted Ann in the mirror stretching her face back and also why she felt so betrayed by Steve when she found out he was sleeping with Noa. She was complacent with selling the other women because she knew that they were only products to him and not actual love interests.. but just my thoughts.
I think the movie is pretty straightforward which doesn't need an ending explanation of the plot. - Noa did eat Molly's breast. - Ann was a former victim of Steve. But eventually Steve knew that Ann is fucked up, too (which she actually is). Hence, Steve makes her his wife. Altho she initially was a victim, she became a complicit. But Steve thought that Ann was also fucked up, too and want to make her his new wife, and kill Ann. Steve started putting Ann's belongings in a box (like all his victims). Hence, Ann knew then that Steve def wants to kill her, which explains her detachment when she sees him die. But afterall, shes still fucked up enough to ask him to be iced and want to kill Noa because shes the fresher meat. The only thing i don't know why its included in the movie: - the dude coming to help and bail out (but thats super realistic tho!) - the message of the first date at the end p.s. love mollie, shes the best friend everyone needs.
I think the guy bailing was a metaphor of how external people will want to be the hero of the day but once they realise they could be in danger, they back out. Mollie cared about Noa and that's why she went after her. Same for Noa when she saved Mollie and Penny, it's because she cared about them deeply (best friend and only emotional support during trauma)
- Noa did eat Molly's breast. Considering how Molly was bi, that is funny in a pretty fucked up way. The thing with Paul felt like "if men are not assholes, they are dumb"...probably the only part of the movie that I didnt like. Just have him give the girls a ride at the end, or just dont have him at all.
Great catch on Steve collecting Anne's things. I think the dude coming but leaving is just a parallel for all the guys who had a chance to do the right thing but we're too worried about themselves
I think this movie was about how men can take anything from woman in a relationship until there’s nothing left. That’s what it’s truly about in my opinion. Steve cutting woman body parts off is an example of that.
Literally no one has mentioned the “satanic” symbolism throughout the movie, when he’s chopping the meat outside there’s like a tree that looks like a goat with horns and then when the men that buy the meat are eating their plate has a goat with horns engraved, it’s also shown in the credits. Also with his wife thing, I remember him telling Noah that when you become one with another person that’s love or something like that, I think he convinced his wife abt eating her leg Bc of “love” idk it was a good movie 👍🏻 I think there’s a lot more things in that we aren’t seeing
Definitely saw the goat and ALL of the symbolism. Anything dealing with cannibalism is Satanic. That’s more than likely how this film got funded. 🤷🏾♂️
i thought ann was sami? we didn’t really get to see sami’s face very well in her picture, ann was critiquing her face a lot in the mirror, and steve is a plastic surgeon so he could’ve changed her appearance. she clearly lost her leg probably to steve, and it would be reasonable to believe she changed her identity easily since she wouldn’t have had much family.
I think you're right on the money concerning Ann; I think she was a previous victim, but unlike Noa who played Steve, she was probably kept by him longer and had her mind broken; the fact that she was missing a leg indicated this to me. Everyone has heard about fight or flight, and some people have heard about freeze, but when it comes to panic responses, there is a fourth option called "fawn", which is when the person feeling the panic response will basically submit to and compliment the target of their panic; a good example of this is actually Donkey in the first Shrek movie who, when faced with Dragon and has nowhere to run, starts throwing compliments at her. I think Ann started exhibiting the fawn panic response after Steve removed her leg, and he slowly began testing her like he did with Noa. Ann, however, was not in the right state of mind, and never thought about trying to escape because she was so scared of Steve. Then as the years passed, stockholm syndrome sets in, so when she realizes that Steve's eye is wandering because she's not as young and pretty as she used to be, and then gets confirmation that Steve is cheating on her with Noa, it breaks her because without Steve, she feels that she has nothing left.
I think this movie portrays how relationships with narcissists occur, from the love bombing stage to the abuse and discard, and how they specifically pick their victims in certain places. They’ll manipulate and choose the ones with no friends or family like the video mentioned and will have ‘past victims’ with another source of supply (Steve’s wife). When they took her down they said ‘Women like you are the problem’. They side with the abuser to avoid being abused themselves. One scene that really caught my attention was the fresh fruits and vegetables aisle when they were eating cotton candy grapes. They look like regular grapes until you bite into it. Meaning nothing is what it looks or seems until you experience it. The ending when all the women victims take down Steve means they end the abuse cycle by supporting each other instead of enabling further abuse. Creepy but the message in this film is well thought out and delivered.
I think you missed an important factor in Paul leaving the scene. That was a racialized trope but a real life symbolism. Mollie, a black woman, saves Noa. Paul is the only other person who knows about Noa missing and later Mollie. His character is racialized throughout the movie: “beard connect,” “black people die first.” When he arrives to the house he knows Mollie is there, and potentially Noa. But he doesn’t continue to try to find them because it’s the right thing to do. He’s only worried about his survival. In the beginning he’s even oblivious to finding Noa. Only Mollie cares, and because he’s interested in Mollie he helps Noa. Black men have a history of not stepping up to protect, save, and defend black women. I believe his character was a symbol of that.
That’s very interesting I probably would’ve left to though even though I’m neither black or a man in these situations you have to recognize possible danger and look out for yourself, I definitely would’ve called the police though
i was originally not too thrilled about the trope of the black friend going to rescue the white friend but after finishing the film i thought about this as well
Nope... Total BS. He left because as he said, black men die before the end of horror movies, not to mention he's in a wealthy area, which is not good for a black male. Why on earth would he go toward gunfire?
I wonder if Ann was actually the person who killed Sami. She seemed to catch on pretty quickly to the fact that Steve had become interested in someone else and she is obviously willing to come investigate if he doesn’t check in. We saw how violent Ann was towards Noa after seeing evidence of their “date” so it’s possible she killed Sami because of jealousy. When I saw the note from Sami it made me wonder how many times Steve has fallen for one of his victims. We know about Ann (assuming she is a former victim), Sami and Noa, but there could be others.
Currently, I'm wondering if Ann _is_ Sami. In the picture, Sami's face was covered. I'm kinda aligned with the theory that Sami could be Ann and changed her hair and name, eventually going along with Steve.
Crazy theory: Ann was the actual mastermind, she was born without that leg, therefore fell in love with Steve, who removed other people's limbs, since she found a sense of justice in seeing people losing what she never had.
I thought she was also the head of it all when she saw Steve dead and was just like “put him on ice” but I also thought maybe she was just insane and fed him her own leg when they were young 💀
Oh UNLESS maybe Sami got replaced by Ann. Like maybe Steve was about to replace Ann with Noa- that’s why he continued pursuing her after her realized he “liked” Noa. Bc think about it- he keeps the ones he “likes” alive, but he wants to test them first to see if they’d be into it too. Like how he went on that tangent about “being alone” or whatever when he first started eating ppl. So Sami was able to get out w her life but then a new piece of ass walks in (ann) and Sami left that message on the magazine, Ann read it- used it to her advantage, was able to get out and have children, but since the women Steve chooses have no family, when ann had kids, it had to have given her a sense of “familial security” that she never had, crossed into Stockholm syndrome (?)
I also thought along these lines. Except that she was the first person Steve ate and therefore she manipulated him to stay with him he mentions that by consuming people they are "forever a part of each other" like marriage.
This was an interesting movie. I was upset her friend got caught but in the end they made it out. I def think the wife was Sami Akbar because the msg in the magazine was from her and there was one scene where she pulled back her face in the bathroom and was looking at it. So he could’ve given her reconstructive face surgery. Like she wanted to get out but got used to it and the lifestyle. By default she had to go too.
It wasn't Sami Akbar. If you look at the photo with the other girls and Ann's ID in the box, it doesn't match up at all. Wait nvm. I swear the ID and that picture looked like Ann!
It seems much more likely that Sami sent the note in the magazine to Ann, right? Encouraging her to take advantage of the fact that Steve liked her. Keep in mind, that's only a possibility IF the magazine is five or more years old. (unless you think Ann had babies while held hostage - I don't.) I see Steve as a psychopath who wants to believe he's kind - so I think providing fresh magazines would fit his persona. If that's true than we should give up on the "Sami" connection which I think is specious at best.
I love the Ann vs Sami theory. I think when he is telling her "eventually you will accept this is your life now", maybe that was reference to his wife's acceptance? Like if I can marry a victim and have babies with her, then I can gain your acceptance also.
I liked that the movie made you think about what happened to Mollie. When he said that he wanted Noa to taste the meat I thought oh dang he’s going to feed her Mollie and tell her it was her to mess with her as a punishment. This movie had my mind going everywhere lol
loved this movie. i think the plot was a really interesting but intriguing idea. i feel like they needed to share more of ann’s story because i don’t really know much about how she got there. but besides that, i could rewatch this movie 1000 time without losing interest
Chad was the epitome of the "nice guy" in the real world. Rude, entitled, and arrogant but still thinks he's a great catch. Steve is the epitome of the opposite side of the spectrum from Chad the shark in the water stalking the wounded. Best to not date strangers and only friends of friends or not at all.
C'mon, Noa has no butt, and somehow she's walking? with no muscles? And there's no attempt to make it look like she's butt-less in the pink dress? They didn't even try to make that work.
As a massage therapist this bugged the fuck out of me. If you removed someone’s gluteal muscles I don’t have any idea how they would ever walk - let alone one week later…
i may just be too easily impressed but..what a genuinely genius movie. not because it was a shocker or the twists were unexpected, just purely how well written it is. i absolutely adore the story, visual storytelling, the obviously beautiful cinematography and the characters are a whole different level. i adore this movie so much, it’s embarrassing
I like to think that his wife is the one who wrote the message in the magazine & played Steve. Then she lost herself somewhere along the way to cope with what she was doing to other women to survive!
I had the same thoughts about Ann! She's definitely a part of the business because she says to put Steve's (Brendan) body "on ice" after discovering him...
@@elcidabiera9751 The movie implies that, at least for effect with the subtext on female safety/female power. All the men eating were super gross looking. Not much subtlety but for the purposes of this "light" film - works fine. (I mean light not re: topic but in that it's a decent B movie - not a masterpiece of social commentary like Get Out.)
I am completely on board with the Anne theory. That's what I thought immediately when I saw the prosthetic leg. "former victim of his" ran through my mind. I think it shows that he has a habit of following in love with his captives.
I thought that Ann was originally Sami. Her hair is clearly a wig and they don’t show Sami’s full face in the photo. Not sure why she tried to kill Noa since she didn’t seem to care that Steve was dead.
I like this idea! But wouldn’t you think that if Ann was Sam, then Sam’s stuff wouldn’t be on the wall? Bc if Sam was really Ann, wouldn’t (ew I can’t believe I’m saying this) her meat be super “old” ? Ann and Steve already have some young, middle school aged children together …
Remember when Ann told the bodyguard "we should get him on ice", isn't that to preserve his 'meat', otherwise why not bury him in the woods? I bet she intended on carrying on his business in some way.
She was a victim and she survived by playing nice and she had a son with him, to be at that point she had to turn to a cannibal herself, so there was no old life for her to go back to, so she wanted to keep the business going, she couldn't let survivors to go whistleblow
I agree with everything. I just wish the women kept Ann alive for the police to question her. Also, Ann came with a bodyguard and what happened to Penny?? Also also, it’s clear that Steve was in a cult. I almost thought a demon was going to pop out in the end because of all the symbols of Satan.
Realize this: It’s not just that he’s in a “cult”. This movie has tons of symbolism. The figures playing checkers in the painting. The numerous cuts of different wealthy men eating the human meat. “The 1% of the 1%, the people that can afford anything they want” are the market for human flesh. The cut of the baphomet ram on the gold plate that one man was eating the meat off of. The cut at the end of the rich men naked and eating (ritualistic). The cut of the same ram head during the end credits in the background. This isn’t a coincidence. This is very much happening in real life. As said in the movie, these people can buy whatever they want no matter the cost, they are the true wealthiest people in the world, the ones that can afford to be unseen. They are eating human flesh. This is what they do. They are worshippers of Satan. They throw it in your face just like in this movie. People need to open their eyes to the true horrors of the world. Just like the top comment, Armie Hammer has messaged and talked about consuming human flesh. And he, in comparison, is a nobody. This is the truth right in front of your eyes.

Another small thing i noticed was the dry aged leg he snacked on. It was obviously Ann's leg that he's kept preserved because she was special to him until he found Noa.
8:50 It was actually an FU to the horror or thriller movie cliche of killing a black man since they always are killed in movies like this. And realistically and typically, black ppl would avoid dangerous situations and wouldn’t even be in a situation like this to be killed.
This movie is SO good! As a feminine presenting person, the number of times I have been told to smile, or wear a dress and being guilt tripped by men after rejecting them this is all too real. The dress Steve brings her is a symbol of that, the way women are expected to comply to please men. It's the thing she hates the most but sacrifices to save her and other women's lives.
It was frustrating how the guy in the beginning of the movie wanted her to look and act traditional but he was 100% a non-traditional modern man by requesting her to pay for the date and make-out with him. lol
In all honesty as a woman myself I expect to go on a date with someone who puts in the effort as much as I do. If you don’t look like you take care of yourself you’re showing me that I’m going to have to take care of you as a person in the long run which I’m not going to. You only attract what you are.
@@UGuessin "Puts in effort" as in dressing up? Because I've gone out with guys who looked impeccable on dates and turned out to be man-children. And I thought the idea was that "opposites attract"? Idk, I'm with Noa, dating is so annoying in its performative nature, it's all theater and hardly anyone is what they pretend to be.
I was wondering if Ann was Sami with facial reconstruction surgery done. The whole thing where she holds her face makes me think she's had her face transformed by him. Maybe not though because the message Sami left sounds like she wanted to use flirtation as a weapon against him, well unless she got Stockholm syndrome. Another theory in my mind is that he ran out of victims and used his own wife's leg to supply the creepy cannibal cult
I thought Paul's character was there as a contrast to the female friendship between the two girls. Cause their female bond is so strong that mollie figures it out and risks her life anyways, also when noa gets suspicious. Plus, to me it also shows that the love Noa is looking for she already has it with mollie, like the love that completes her. But maybe that's just me.
a man won't come save the day, bc even the "good guys" still won't put forward the effort and care that women deserve. it was a nice expectation subversion, that made it that much more fulfilling when the women were able to get out themselves
Ann is Sami Akbari who had a lot of work done to look different. Possibly, to leave her old life behind or to appease Steve. No one cared about her. Steve became who she clinged to with a warped sense of love that developed while she played her role for self preservation. She then had the husband, the family & the all-American dream. No way was she giving that up! Ann (formerly Sami) wrote the message in the magazine because she was special to Steve enough to eventually become his wife. Ann was probably enraged because she truly loved Steve and did everything she could to save her own life then live the life she earned with Steve. Ann knew Noa was special to Steve because she was once in Noa's position. Also, Ann knew Noa was special because saw the picture of Steve in Noa's bed, saw the 2 wine glasses & saw that Steve kept Noa's belongings with him and not on the wall with the others. I could go on & on more but I'll cut it short here.
But then why would she send a message of strategy to the woman who could possibly replace her? She was enraged and tried to kill Noa at the end. I don't see how it fits that she would've reached out to help her in any way.
Great movie, best I've seen in while. Good script, entertaining as heck and oh yeah, loads of originality. You ain't see nothing quite like this before. The Intro 30 mins in, I was like, "Here we go!"
I like how the idiot she was on the date with in the beginning called her up again. It so realistic. Often men think its ok to treat women badly and call them up again like they did nothing wrong.
Great theories. I somehow missed the fact that Paul just left so the ending really bugged me because I didn't think they tied up that lose end. Part of me thought the wife was the daughter of a wealthy person who began the sick business and met her husband through her father. When she appeared with that Asian man, I thought it seemed like it was actually HER business and she seemed more upset about getting found out than seeing her husband dead. I also was frustrated that the Asian man was still there and they didn't tie up that loose end either. I do feel like it could have ended better but I did love this movie!
Only reason I cant think of was to say "if men arent jerks, they are dumb". I dont see any other reason...no reason to have him "saving the day", but him helping them get out of there after they saved themselves would've made sense...
He said it so casually as if trying cannibalism is just a normal thing young people experiment with. How do you even end up in a situation where trying human meat is an option?
Literally right before he disappeared the wife says something like, “We need to put his body on ice” so obviously he took the body back to the house that wasn’t far and had the equipment/space right?
@@tinoviro9954 to reveal his connections to them?? Earlier in the film, he's seen packing the meat boxes into a car. I definitely thought "who's he?" And then they brought him back at the end. I do think the movie could've done a better job wrapping up. Unless it was meant to be left so unraveled
We see Chad's text at the end to show that Noa's phone finally has signal again and can call for help. The irony being, that the beacon of hope is from a sexist loser. It's like the movie is saying: pick a cannibalistic psychopath or a sexist pig - those are the types of men at your disposal!
My guess is Ann was a victim of his in his 20s, early on in his murder spree. She was one of the first women to learn she can manipulate her way into buying time. Steve falls for her and they sleep together a few times. She gets pregnant. So he marries her and she gets a prosthetic. At this point she has convinced him they are the same. He likely changed her face a little to give her a new identity. It's probable her name isn't really Ann. So maybe she had a nose job etc. He inspects her face, judging it and she pulls her face back as though to erase the past decade. She is likely realising she's no longer "fresh", she is pushing 40 and can't compete with the girls in their late 20s he kidnaps, who she presumes he's sleeping with. Whilst she didn't love him at first, she does develop Stockholm Syndrome. Hes her life and their sons too. She becomes accustomed to eating human flesh, she becomes cold inside. She no longer cares about the victims. Years of eating them I'd imagine would do that. So she probably joins him in the "business". She probably even gets him some of the victims, a trustworthy mother. Women wont doubt her. She makes contacts in the business and is essentially second in command by the time we meet her. But knowing he's judging her aging face and no longer recognising herself even in the mirror or what she's become (she seems shocked at how far she will go), she fears being replaced. Rightly so too. So when he died she likely seen this as what she wanted. She probably was planning to kill him before he killed her and replaced her with Noa. She had one of the muscle men prepare his body to be stored for meat, maybe she's even planning on diversifying into the "male" meat market being a woman. She tried to kill Noa as she knows from the box it was her that was replacing her. She dies. Honestly id love a full prequel about Ann and Steve a decade previous
quite literally just finished watching this movie. i went in blind only knowing it was a horror movie. the thing about indie/artsy movies like this is they almost always use color. in the beginning, all the colors were warm tones. a sense of comfort/cosy-ness. i also picked up on the hints of red everwhere. noa’s nail polish, steve’s house door, the bow on the back of mollie’s coat when she went to ann. i think the plot was pretty straight forward. i did predict like all of it lmao but i still really enjoyed it. i could write a pretty hefty analysis of all the characters and in a movie that only went really in depth with its main characters, id say thats pretty cool.
I believe Ann is Sami, the one who wrote the note in magazine. She may suffer at this point from Stockholm's syndrome. She was a good girl, played the game and is now a part of the game. She wanted to kill Noa for killing Steve/Brendan. Killing him means that she doesn't have the life he provided for her and makes all her efforts to be normal, ignore what Steve is and her survival tactics all in vain. At any moment, Ann could've ended Steve after gaining his trust, but she didn't. She stayed and continued to play it safe. Noa is the opposite of that. This glaring point that Ann didn't help, was selfish and played along to the point where she didn't care that other women were going through exactly what she had.
Mr. thinking story, you have the perfect voice for this job. Love your breakdowns and the consistency you make them! I have been eagerly waiting for this movie to be reviewed by you and foundflix lol.
That was so cool how they did the intro later in the movie. This movie looks awesome. Definitely need to watch it now. Looks like an original movie, refreshing.
So now we have 3 Avengers who have eaten human flesh. Chris Evans ate a baby in Snowpiercer, Jeremy Renner was Dahmer, and now the Winter Soldier. Nice. I liked this movie solid B for me.
This is Disney plus?! It looks like a hybrid of You and Hannibal😳 Would not expect that from Disney. Or are they exploring their “adult dark side”? Thank you for the recommendation. Gotta check this out.
@@nickm3391 That’s true. It was just surprising because I wasn’t expecting Disney to be connected. Even just through their platform (which I’d think is also curated by them to still fit in with their usual brand)
I just want to know what happened to the man Ann came into the house with. The one she told to put Steve on ice. If that guy is still around, the girls aren't safe...
I think it gives them a 50\50 chance, because Millie's friend is also in the area. It leaves you with some unresolved tension. If she gets a signal they are saved, if not maybe they end up right where they started.... I like this idea of right back where you started followed up by the text from Chad " u up?" To me, it represents this dating game and how cyclical it is. Date, trauma, rinse, repeat. Maybe it goes well maybe it doesn't.
i couldnt bring myself to watch the movie since the last time i watch cannibalism, it haunted me for years but wow. its good to know that noa survived this twisted man
Holy crap, this movie was wild! I haven't enjoyed a movie like I did this in such a long time! This was such a edge-of-your-seat roller coaster! I highly recommend watching it blind, like I did, like, Holy crap!
Did anyone else notice the parallels to the Korean film parasite. The dramatic plot twist in the middle, the hiding victims downstairs, the rich (Steve and anne) and the poor (the young girls). The elegant film shots, the elegant cooking shots, etc. Just something I noticed
I just watched this movie. It's one of the best movies of 2022 for me so far. Definitely makes my top 10 list. Alongside a few other movies like "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "The Northman".
Did anyone notice how much Daisy (Noa) looks like Anne Hathaway Also when i was watching the movie i didn't think so much about the feminist aspects but now i see it more clearly. to me it seemed more like they were showing how easily we eat animals the exact same way yet we're not the monsters like when Noa is eating the short ribs in the beginning and steve doesn't have them and says i don't eat animals we assume he's most probably vegan and that was actually just foreshadowing.
Or she also shared the same interest as him and she cut off her own leg and actually ate it herself! But I think the victim-theory is maybe a bit more plausible :D
I loved this movie, except for the fact that the only POC were ancillary or helper characters. But I think maybe there was some intention with that? And maybe it was meant to comment on the cautiousness most POC approach with dating/safety? What do y'all think?
I wish it were that deep, but sadly I don’t think/highly doubt it is. I think this movie follows the same formulaic rom com trope where the POC is the background or best friend character.
I think you have too much time on your hands, and need to watch some Jordan Peele movies if you want some social justice cause hidden behind a horror plot.
@@urgandma idk how wanting a diverse cast of characters that represents the real world with equal character development is social justice but go off sis 🤷🏽♀️ you really put some fire into that comment. Rawr
@@sunflowersentimientos you literally complained that a movie about a serial killer selling human flesh to sickos, didn't develop the side character enough, and that perhaps this was an intentional way of saying that peepoe de cuhluh are extra cautious about dating (because yt people aren't)... Yeah, you want a jordan Peele movie. His version would be that the main character can be a pock girl, her other pock friends tell her not to date a colonizer, but she throws caution to the wind and pays for it. This time though he only butchered pock women as an allegory for how yt men fetishize pock women and see them as objects and not as people. He even partially butchered his own wife because he's also a misogynist, and his wife while being victim to the same system also upholds the system due to her internalized misogyny and privilege as a yt woman.
There's no mystery here! You have an awakened cannibal who makes his living abducting women only(because they taste better) & selling their prepared parts to other super-rich gluttonous cannibals! You know something is wrong when Noa agrees to go to his place that's a good 40 to 50 miles away! Who travels that distance to visit a random town to shop at it's grocery store? It was also obvious the he was using a cell phone jammer when Noa couldn't get service, even when they got to his place. It was also obvious when Steve's wife stripped down to take a shower, that she also started as someone on the menu!
I have a theory number one Sebastian Stan is hot number two Sebastian Stan is hot and if you're too lazy to watch the movie or you can't afford Hulu here are the characters names Steve: (Main Murderer and Cannibal) Noa: (The Main Character and Victim) Chad: (the guy from the beginning) ok actual theory 🤣 Steve Hired the guy from the beginning and I think the guy from the beginning was stalking her knowing she's been having a rough time with dating so after the day Chad and Noa went on the date Steve "coincidentally" meets Noah in the store asking her out now the ending scene..... I believe that indicates that Steve is still alive BUT that's just a theory! A MOVIE THEORY!
I definitely think the wife is a former victim of his. At first, I thought the wife was going to turn out to be Sammy and that she had been playing him all this time, but then she attacked Mollie. Then I thought that she would be the one to kill Steve because she knew he was cheating and might have been going to “replace” her with Noa. I want to know what happens after the movie ends. The other guy from Steve’s meat business is still at the house. Do the three girls get away? Does Steve’s business and its customers get exposed? Overall, I really liked this movie.
I think Ann was Sami. She was definitely one of his previous girls. When they reveal Sami’s picture in his trophy cabinet, her face is covered with her hair. Steve mentions he even sells their hair, (i don’t know if by scalping them or what) but Ann’s hair looked like a wig from a mile away. She left that note most likely before she fell weirdly in love with him. She tried to kill Noa because she was jealous he was doing it with someone else. That’s all my theory lol.
Did anyone else get the feeling the director was trying to insinuate how barbaric it is that we as humans, with a consciousness, still butcher and eat animals? He even hinted at it on their 2nd date, saying something like "I don't eat animals." The way he had that freezer full of human body parts is horrifyingly similar to what it looks like when we go to the supermarket to pick out our favorite ribeyes. Don't get me wrong, I love eating meat, especially beef. However, as I get older, I am starting to realize how fucked up it is that we just butcher animals and eat them, but there's no way I could ever change my diet now. It's just way too engraved in me and a lot of other people as well, kind of like how he first tasted human meat and couldn't get over it. Before this movie even came out, I've even recently imagined producing a similar movie that butchered humans and turning them into meals just to illustrate what all the vegetarians and vegans have been trying to tell meat eaters. This movie sure beat me to the punch and did a really good job intertwining all the dynamics of dating while also romanticizing the cannibalism as well. I thought the end of the movie got kind of ridiculous like why wouldn't they just kill him when they had him unconscious in the house or why didn't she finish him off, when she bit his dick off (lol no pun intended) but then we wouldn't have the climax scenes. The ending was also pretty bad, and I only say bad because they could have done such a better job. They tried to be all comical with it, when they should have went the creepy route, maybe zoom out "bigger picture" perspective to show other members of the community who are cannibals and the large network of other humans being kidnapped and trafficked right under the noses of society in broad daylight; and when I say "creepy" I mean like the ending of the movie "The Renters." I won't ruin the ending, but that movie was produced and directed by James Franco, and even though I think he's a douchebag, the premise of that movie is super creepy for people who stay at AIRBNB a lot. It's an entertaining thriller if you need a decent movie for movie night. Thanks for taking the time to read by rant.
I know exactly what you mean. I work at a place where we literally break down ham all day. And I'll walk into the back and see everyone just casually talking while literally chopping up dead bodies. It's fucking horrific. I know, I know, I do work there but I see the fucked upness of it every fucking day

I've looked everywhere online for anything about it even in the comments and I can't find anything! Someone tell me they know what I'm talking about please!! That they would be stuck with the devil and (maybe) immortality I THINK. That's why she said to put Steve's body on ice so they could resurrect him! And they showed that the trees were like some ancient ancestors from the devil that had to be fed blood too and that's why the satanic symbolism was shown throughout the movie because it's also like a demonic cult! Idk....
He makes great Baking Soda 😂😂
yeah, I took it as Ann was one of his previous victims.
It would also make sense for Ann to try to kill Noa, because if he was going to replace her he would probably kill her

Nailed it!
I think they double down on the metaphor when Steve brought her a pink dress with a bow.
That's most guys on the dating scene, not just the ones online. The dudes you meet online are the same ones you'd meet in person.

She clearly had some form of emotional attachment to Steve because she attacked Noa right away when she saw her
LMAO loved that ass part
oh my god please write my next english analysis essays
Your comments makes me think that maybe there are two layers to the movie title "Fresh," one being cannibalism-wise, the other being the side plot of some men always finding their wives too old and wanting younger women.
this was written perfectly!!
Implying? It is blatantly showing you that is exactly what it is lol
Nailed it!
@@crlssl6837 that last part “it isnt hers” dam
yeah, that's actually suuuuper duper obvious.
I thought the part where the guy pulls up looking for mollie, then proceeds to leave was hilarious. Not only did it break the cliche of the man saving the day, but also the cliche of horror movie victims not doing the smart choice lol
But it also demonstrates how Mollie made a smart choice by letting him know her location. Like, she did everything right.
But it also highlights the bystander effect. He saw the problem, but did nothing to act on it except look the other way. Even a “nope, that’s the police’s problem not mine” would have been a bit better
It perfectly illustrated how a certain 13% demographic only cares about themselves. Be mad but you know it's true.

Girl shut up.
Wow, brilliant and true
wow this was summarised really well
Same idea to Netflix's tinder swindler. The female victims was still criticized for there actions.
Agree!
Woah, never thought of it like this.
The only thing i don't know why its included in the movie:
- the dude coming to help and bail out (but thats super realistic tho!)
- the message of the first date at the end
p.s. love mollie, shes the best friend everyone needs.

The message at the end is to show they have cell service implying they call for help and assuming they escape.
I think this movie was about how men can take anything from woman in a relationship until there’s nothing left. That’s what it’s truly about in my opinion. Steve cutting woman body parts off is an example of that.
like this allegory interpretation
Make sense
Are you fucking kidding me? Women take a men's children, money and house all the fucking time.
I thought it was a horror movie but that’s deep
I thought the same thing.

I agree I think it’s Sami.

Sami’s personal items were still on his trophy wall, though. Noa’s weren’t because she was “special” to him.

She’s the damsel in distress in this story but falls in love with the villain
@@kd1306she was a villain too
I think this movie portrays how relationships with narcissists occur, from the love bombing stage to the abuse and discard, and how they specifically pick their victims in certain places.
No narcissist wants a girl without friends. Wheres the glory in picking a loner? We want a popular one
Spot on! This is too accurate 💯
That’s very interesting I probably would’ve left to though even though I’m neither black or a man in these situations you have to recognize possible danger and look out for yourself, I definitely would’ve called the police though
i was originally not too thrilled about the trope of the black friend going to rescue the white friend but after finishing the film i thought about this as well
This is not a Jordan p movie
Nope...
Oooo that’s a good theory
omg
@@Korbura wait but Sami doesn’t look like her though

@@kellyfroh4159 now that you mention the “on ice” part she probably was going to eat him. Bc her/Steve’s clientele doesn’t eat meat from guys/men

It felt like Get Out most of the time but that bar tender and the friend were the smartest ones in the film!
I was just thinking the same thing! I got a lot of get out vibes

Great theory! But the actor is native lol
Only reason I cant think of was to say "if men arent jerks, they are dumb".

He said it so casually as if trying cannibalism is just a normal thing young people experiment with. How do you even end up in a situation where trying human meat is an option?
what happen to the bodyguard? he is just in the forest, then just gone
Agreed. I'd have liked a flash forward or something quick to wrap it up.
When they first meet in the vegetables section - up on the wall above Noa’s head says “Fresh Meat” hahaha
quite literally just finished watching this movie. i went in blind only knowing it was a horror movie. the thing about indie/artsy movies like this is they almost always use color. in the beginning, all the colors were warm tones. a sense of comfort/cosy-ness. i also picked up on the hints of red everwhere. noa’s nail polish, steve’s house door, the bow on the back of mollie’s coat when she went to ann. i think the plot was pretty straight forward. i did predict like all of it lmao but i still really enjoyed it. i could write a pretty hefty analysis of all the characters and in a movie that only went really in depth with its main characters, id say thats pretty cool.

Also when i was watching the movie i didn't think so much about the feminist aspects but now i see it more clearly. to me it seemed more like they were showing how easily we eat animals the exact same way yet we're not the monsters like when Noa is eating the short ribs in the beginning and steve doesn't have them and says i don't eat animals we assume he's most probably vegan and that was actually just foreshadowing.
She looks like eddie from stranger things ❤
Or she also shared the same interest as him and she cut off her own leg and actually ate it herself! But I think the victim-theory is maybe a bit more plausible :D
This is WAY too much 😂 I'm so happy you could distill it
Edit: I actually prefer the "Daddy loves you very much" sign off 😂
This was such a well put together movie. I enjoyed it.
Agreed
I just finished watching this. Very good movie. Love the acting as well
I loved this movie, except for the fact that the only POC were ancillary or helper characters.
@@AnameLessMind damn hahah you right. It’s just another case of the POC being the helper ☠️
I mostly agree. Regarding the shopping, Steve said he was visiting his sister - that's why he was buying the "cotton candy" grapes.
Lol. Nothing explained just a summary of the film
I have a theory
number one
Sebastian Stan is hot
number two
Sebastian Stan is hot
and if you're too lazy to watch the movie or you can't afford Hulu here are the characters names
Steve: (Main Murderer and Cannibal)
Noa: (The Main Character and Victim)
Chad: (the guy from the beginning)
ok actual theory 🤣
Steve Hired the guy from the beginning
and I think the guy from the beginning was stalking her knowing she's been having a rough time with dating
so after the day Chad and Noa went on the date
Steve "coincidentally" meets Noah in the store asking her out
now the ending scene.....
I believe that indicates that Steve is still alive
BUT that's just a theory!
Ann be representing the Ghislaine Maxwell's of the world.
Nice twist on the Wendigo Legend…
I know, I know, I do work there but I see the fucked upness of it every fucking day
yes it`s fucked up, so go vegan :)
@@etre3061 its like embedded in our culture though
@@ultravioletveru crazy how we're just so desensitized
No, not at all imo.
the amount of satisfaction me and my mom felt when Steve got his ass handled by the trio at the end… 😌💅🏽
People like Steve exist
Dang if I’m ever kidnapped I hope I’m as smart as noa
Or mollie
@@kujo4388 Mollie especially. She was a good friend!
@@wiinterflowers4277 mollie is definitely nice but idk about smart 😆 she did get kidnapped after all and noa had to save her
@@anasdomain9994 - It’s not normal to be invited into somebody’s house and end up being held hostage.... so her friend was not dumb. Plus, she put up a heck of a fight
@@CharlieSheenIsFired obviously…but I’m not saying she’s dumb I’m just saying in terms of survival. Seeking out a friend who went missing isn’t necessarily smart even though it is an amazing thing to do. So in this case noa is the smart one cuz she mapped out her surroundings and manipulated her way to escape and save everyone.
when steve is found dead, the wife says to “put his body on ice” like she is going to sell him to get back at him
GUYS! I watched this movie like the day it came out on Hulu and I'm tripping out because I just rewatched it last night and I swear they deleted a few scenes from the ending!! I've looked everywhere online for anything about it even in the comments and I can't find anything! Someone tell me they know what I'm talking about please!!
What I saw was that Ann told Noa when she was choking her "you really thought this was over?!" That none of them could ever really escape it after eating the meat! I know I'm not tripping!!
Everything makes sense now. Thanks for sharing!
No joke to ANYONE out there was talking to a guy online with little online presence around 2012 he wanted to meet up on a connecting flight and then wanted to go to New Orleans not for Bourbon St but to just stay in the woods, hard pass! Trust gut
