I worked as a pump man in an opencast coal mine around 30 years ago and had a TW for pulling pumps and bagging around. What a beast she was, loved the floor splitter peddle when it got too much for her on a hard pull.
If it was “smiles per hour” George, the old TW would win hands down. Another thing to take into account is what will the T5 or S5 be like after 40 years of hard work? If in fact they would even last that long? Love the old TW. 🚜👍
We got a tw30 over here in America, she’s got 7,000 on her second motor, still going, and probably punching above her weight class. She’s kinda the oddball on our farm of red machines.
Those modern tractors are definitely technical marvels with their slick gearboxes and sexy controls, but give me that filthy lusty turbo six any day. A big ole six is such a soulful beast, I could listen to it all day! Congratulations a great, no BS channel.
you'd void your warranty and they'd likely not survive their first breakdown, TW15/25/35 were designed to spend their entire life expectancy at over 90% output. Now the T5/5S would survive 5x as long as them if it was a question of PTO use. The modern tractors are more tool carriers than draft machines.
140 - 150 HP being considered a smaller Tractor just goes to show you how things have moved on, their capability though also shows that you don't always need 200 - 300+ HP to get the job done. Obivously letting the old girl stretch her legs and enjoying the music once in a while is fantastic, probably makes you enjoy the modern creature comforts of the new iron all the more at the end of the day.
That's been a great little series of reviews, I hope the Funky Farmer has been taking notes for comparison! Well put together and you gave them a good workout while you had them. But you can't beat some old school grunt! Can't beat that sound.

Great series. The TW engine is 50 percent bigger then that of the Massey. If you continuously work the smaller engines at their limit it is doubtful that they would last as long as the big six. Also how will the modern tractors function with all the electronics and proximity sensors and other giblets in 4 years?
@@nickpalazzi2121 Like any manufacturer, Ford had good and bad models. Their 3 cylinder 4000.4610 were good gutsy little tractors which punched well above their weight. They were pathetic and gutless. I never had a drive of a turbo 7610, which was reckoned to be a lot better.

Hey George, it shows that we had some good rain here at long last Because the grass is growing again so much so, That at my school the Big New Holland Tractor has come again to cut the football field after a long time not doing so! It looked like a T7 Tractor the back wheels were about 6.5 feet tall. It was a lovely sight to see it cutting using a bi-folding back cutter. We don't see tractors much here being a Town with no farming around us. Nice to see a New Holland my favorite farming brand even on the Farming Sim game I play. 🚜 😉
I like this comparison. You have any idea of fuel usage? Do those small 4cylinders start drinking a lot under that heavy load? At least you proved a 4cylinder engine can be as though as a 6 cylinder if the whole drivetrain behind is well thought out.
They do, I just traded my Deutz-Fahr 6140, a 4 cylinder 140 hp; it had to work at max power pulling my Krone Comprima Baler and sits at about 22 litres/hour. The new 6 cylinder, 200 hp takes just 10 l/h, which with todays diesel prices more than pays for the additional cost of the tractor. Now, AGCO are pushing 200 hp with their 4 cylinders, but I’m not convinced of the long term durability of pushing a small engine that far. But the 4 cylinder 140-something are great tractors if you want something agile and versatile but don’t need the max power all the time. Great for loader work, especially with a CTV transmission.
@@bewing77 im not totally surprized with what you said. On trucks all brands still use about the same size engines as 10 or 20 yrs ago. They do have a smaller block option, with more hp. But most trucks with 450hp are in the 12/13 liter range still.. but definitely better on fuel.

Evening George. Sorry but I'm Old School the TW sounds better, looks better and I bet she smells better, let todays generation keep their whipper snapper tractors and let us revel in the days when real tractors had the prefix TW.
Around here they did a comparison ,40 years ago with a Ford 7600 and IH 956 on a forage harvester, and the 4 cylinder drunk twice as much fuel as the 6 cylinder,as you say the newer tractors are matching the gears to the circumstances where as TW ,cant quite do the same, what an electronic gearbox is like over time I dont know
Yes now your driving a real tractor what an amazing machine the TW25 is.... That Massey errrrrr no you just don't look happy on a Red tractor it just didn't look right not big enough for you George 😁 fantastic vlog 👍👍👍
I would expect the fuel combustion is far better on the modern engines. I expect the TW has black smoked all its life, when hard pressed! That extra fuel adds up fairly quickly to a tidy sum in these days of high fuel costs. Still a good tractor, all the same.
Could only listen to the old 6 pott purring away for so long before getting a so long without getting a sore head . sounds good tho. Don't think the newer smaller tractors would put up with heavy draft work for long they would fall apart
I suppose your right but in the long run I don't think they will hold up like the tw. It's seems cars, trucks and even equipment are almost disposable. You won't see the CAT track loaders of today like we see the old 955 and even 953. I would love to come across a 953B model for sale in fair shape I would take it CAT and take advantage of there re- man program.

Evening George. Sorry but I'm Old School the TW sounds better, looks better and I bet she smells better, let todays generation keep their whipper snapper tractors and let us revel in the days when real tractors had the prefix TW.
Around here they did a comparison ,40 years ago with a Ford 7600 and IH 956 on a forage harvester, and the 4 cylinder drunk twice as much fuel as the 6 cylinder,as you say the newer tractors are matching the gears to the circumstances where as TW ,cant quite do the same, what an electronic gearbox is like over time I dont know
How did they compare fuel wise
Yes now your driving a real tractor what an amazing machine the TW25 is.... Sorry I know you love your fast track but the TW for me any day she is one hell of a tractor sounds fantastic the number one on the farm.
Now would look at that, nice lenght of straight through pipe. The thing of muckers dreams.
Sounds unreal👌👌
TW sounding glorious. I wonder how the T5 and 5s would have got on without the loaders (and full bucket)?
Not at all unless fair rack of weights on front
Great Sound!
Considering the poor quality of some reman kit, I'd be wary, and do a lot of recceing before committing.
I share your admiration for the 955 and 953B👍🏻
@@R.Sole88109 I has a 87 model 953 half way done and it wasn't bad. I wish I would have done more but they mostly went after the nagging stuff. Take care!

That's mega mate, good on yer for saving the old girl🍺
All the best👍🏻
But will they last as long with there plastic and computers .
Be interesting to see if the modern tractors are still about in 40 years to have a go at pulling subsoiler, tw in 80 years may well be!!!!!
You are having too much fun! 👍
Sounding sweet!
Can’t beat the sound of the old tractors.
No disrespect but I’d rather be sat in the new ones ,but good to see the comparisons
Don't put too much strain on the TW, she's still got plenty to give for her age. Great video and sounds 👍👍ta ta
Ps how about trying the Fastrac ?
If you swapped something like a 12v Cummins into the tee dub what would you call it? TW69? lol
Sounds so good!👍
Yep, 13 seconds in, sorted. 🇬🇧👍👍👍
Love your videos george but is the old tw not alot heavier she might have better traction than the two newer ones
A very good comparison set of videos my t5050 can power my three leg lifter just as good as the old tm135 and use less fuel
