    In various videos about agriculture, I have noted that IH tractors are the best at transferring traction to the ground without slipping.
    What could be the reason for that? Are IH tractors heavy?

    • @donaldthomas5852
      @donaldthomas5852 2 года назад

      Yes International were heavily built tractors also the Massey Ferguson's were heavily built tractors both could out pull a John Deere of the same horsepower because the John Deere is lighter built so they need more extra weight added.. Weight is a big factor in pulling heavy loads. I have a 1990 Massey Ferguson 3070 cab 92hp with the loader it probably weighs about 12,000 with fluid in the rear tires . That's quite a be of weight for a 92hp tractor . It pulls and handles a 4.16's bottom plow good.

    It's great to see these tractors working. Would it be possible to list the plow size along with the other information you posted? I can see how many bottoms each tractor is pulling, plow share width is important in understanding the context of how each of these tractors are working. I still remember the farm boy bragging about how many bottoms we were pulling. Back then, it made a lot of difference if you were pulling 4-14s or 3-16s. Some of these plows looked like they had even wider plow shares.

    I'm curious about those tandem tractors. Is the effective horsepower really the sum of each tractor? And how about fuel consumption compared to a single tractor of equally rated horsepower. Seems to me these were just cute gimmicks rather than real, around-the-farm workhorses, but perhaps I'm wrong. Anyone have any numbers? Really sad to think of those great machines that I grew up with now being called "vintage." :)

  • @md.fuelkiller1990
    @md.fuelkiller1990 5 лет назад +2

    OK, need to ask: What is it about the single mounted dual wheel? Can't be traction because while ploughing the tractor is leaning towards the furrow (running down into it) which means there should not be much weight onto the dual wheel because it is more or less in the air. Wouldn't it be simpler to put wheelweights on this side, too?

    • @lukebecker1959
      @lukebecker1959 5 лет назад +2

      Maybe the one for the other side whent flat and the had to take it off

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 лет назад +4

      That is a plowing dual. Farm’s ran an onland dual to gain traction when plowing.

    • @md.fuelkiller1990
      @md.fuelkiller1990 5 лет назад

      If the "Onland Dual" is in the air because the tractor is down into the lead furrow, how is that gaining traction? If you're ploughing in onland mode, that would make sense, but in this setup I think it is more like a cheap additional weight that is already sitting at the farm.
