Some people just don't want a nice car. My friend goes from junk car to junk car every other month. I don't understand why he doesn't just get something he can be proud of and would actually drive for more than a few months
Justin Buice That's cool and good for you, but Dick was saying VW's are junk and Toyota/Honda are the way to go. Of course Toyota's have been riddled with recalls and defects in the last 10 years and in the 90's and early 00's, Honda's had a terrible reputation. It's only lately they've picked up. VW make some cracking engines. It's just about buying the right one.
***** Um...No, they're really not. VW's had some bad electrical years with certain models, and the MKIII cars were just plain bad even when they had the sweeter then sweet VR6 (horrid weight dist.), but overall, esp. earlier VW's are very good cars. Sorry, I'm a total Toyota nut (I'm currently building a KZN130 Hilux Surf in the US, I drive an 89 Hilux Surf with 320K miles on the original 22RE, and I've built more then a few VW's for street/track and Rally use so I know my way around them very well), but the iron-block 4-cylinder engine the VW's are so famous for is as bombproof as the 22RE is. The interiors of old and Toyotas and Hondas fall apart every bit as badly as VW's (sometimes worse), but the older MKI&II cars like I build actually hold up better and IMO they still look every bit as great as they did new. Plus Honda and Toyota haven't made a modern car that can directly compete with the VW's for a LONG time (not to mention that modern Civics might just be the ugliest things ever inside and out, same with most modern Toyotas BRZ/FRS excluded). The S2000 was the only Honda outside of an NSX to ever be worth getting excited about about and they're not exactly a direct competitor for the Golf in any respect. While Toyota has some neat old cars like AE86's and ST's etc. (the last Celica was slow and overweight and the Civic SI has always been WAY too short on torque to keep up on the street) again they're not exactly comparable chassis. Most of the REALLY fun Toyotas are either AWD or RWD and nearly mythical in terms of finding one depending on where you live (cars like the Supra, AE86 and STXX(X) Cellica All-Tracs). With the segment topping DSG (and a very high-end standard manual), interior trim levels and fit/finish quality not seen in average tuner cars, and the simply amazing AE888 4cyl in the current GTi/Polo WRC and upcoming cars like the Polo R (I would KILL to get one of those little WRC homologation cars here in the US), Audi S1 and the Golf Evo R, VW will be staying at the top of the pile for some time to come (they already have the fastest lineage in that the Seat and Skodas are all just VW MBQ chassis underneath). Modern VW's are also notoriously easy to screw with, and a simple ECU re-flash nets some serious results vs the JDM stuff that is getting harder and harder to crack into (by design) and tweak. VW had some bad years, Honda and Toyota have too... it happens, but VW's are not, in any respect, "junk"...
I've owned many cars before and I learned one thing; I will never love a car I bought for 15K as much as a car I bought for 3K and invested money, hard work, and time in.
You guys may of liked my high school auto class project car I built. It was an 1986 Chevy Chevette with a 4.3L V6 plus 100hp NOS shot. Mostly for straight line wheelies but was fun as hell bc I hid everything for a total sleeper. Unless you were directly behind me where you could see the wide tires you had no clue it could drop a 10sec quarter.
Highschool in the united states is grade 9-12, where as for us its 7-10, if you took an auto course in college down here you would likely be doing similar things.
Polo gti 9n3 are the best! So happy with mine... With Apr stage 1 tune it QUICK...love the car. And you don't need to change the stock exhaust of the car...it already sounds awesome!
That speech after 9:00 - I just love it. I was never able to speak it out in public as I was always going to insult someone. Well said. Really well said.
That's kinda funny because I feel the same way about Japanese cars. There good cars don't get me wrong but there soulless econo boxes made from cheap plastics. German cars have soul, passion, heritage and history. I daily drive a 1989 Audi 200 and its unlike anything else out there and I love that.
I totally agree with Marty on the Polo... I had one myself, and I felt nothing.. I was a bit psyched the first week or so, but then it lost all it's magic.
@@pmm4177 is it though? Or are you just jumping on a band wagon like most dickheads in the car community that suck off one car/brand (skyline and supra fans who can’t afford them) and hate on everything else.
german is always the right choice. i had a bmw e46 first and just bought my other german car. an audi a6 3.0 v6 quattro. great cars, great show, cheers boys.

Electric windows don't work when you've driven into a ditch or canal, trapping the occupants. Keep the drivers window manual and automate the offside so you don't need to stretch. Driver's window, reach down and turn by hand.

nope, its actually powerful and fuel economic compared to your inefficient (sometimes like for example, pickup trucks) engines that are absurdly high in compression. I know the reason and its because they want raw power, rather than forced induction, but still, superchargers are forced induction. an example to efficiency is a Land Rover Defender 3.5 litre engine (top of the range and most powerful vs a Ford F-150 Wildtrak around 5 litres to 6 litres)

Thanks for your youtube essay, however I was already aware of ALL of that. I was just making a point that engines here on average are bigger. I didn't imply anything else.
Well, you can have something as reliable as a VW AND way less boring to drive. I switched cars with my mother about a year ago: She wanted a newer car with better gadgets and I HATED my 2011 Golf 6 with all bells and whistles. There is just no emotion. VW dulled it down so much it is almost impressive. So I took my mom's 2003 Mazda 3 instead which is so much more engaging to drive: The steering is way better, it has a much more responsive and better gripping front (the Golf 6 had enormous under-steer) and I switched back from a TSI to a NA engine which I like more anyway. Both of them are far from fast (1.2 TSI 6-speed manual with 105 hp vs. 1.6 5-speed with 105 hp) and with my driving profile the Mazda uses about 20% more fuel. But I don't care. It now has 200k km on the clock (the Golf only had like 90k km when I switched) and I never had any problems apart from a dead battery. I had to change a few service parts (water pump, spark plugs, radiator fan) but it is reasonably easy to do yourself. The clutch will have to be changed soon. That will be a big one. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
I know how you feel, Marty. Most cars just don't do it for me, but my 1998 5 speed Volvo V70 T5 wagon gives me warm fuzzy feelings! It has tons of personality and I'm always looking for an excuse to drive it. Can't wait to see what you get! (A wagon, I hope!)
In France, if you have a Polo, you lose your credibility and look like a dumb... :/ And most euro hatchbacks are boring (like Clio, Mégane, Corsa, 208, 308 and more) ; a japanese hatch is MUCH more fun !
06 mkv gti with awe catback, koni coils, nuespeed chip and p-flo with staggered LM reps, short shifter, boost gauge and more. It's righteous with unicorn pwr! I think Marty needs a Trabant 601
Matt G I disagree, in my most German cars have some soul. I have a 2004 Jetta wagon and boy let me tell you, that 2.0 115bhp car is more fun to drive than a lot of other cars I've driven
Wait... So a low end golf is the same as a higher end saloon car? You sir are an idiot. And yes, driven many many BMW's and Mercs, and only the M or AMG models are worth even pissing on. The rest are nothing but grampa mobiles
In my opinion VW's (and Audi's by default) are as bland as eating wallpaper paste. Those mk4 Jetta's were not very good when you compare them to a similar year and spec ford or mazda or even a european car.
who was the fool who brought up a merc BMW or porsche? This whole vid is about a cheap hatchback, which germans do all the same. Small, grey, boring. If you want to talk about higher spec mid range saloon cars, there are many more exciting vehicles out there than those german boxes. Case in point, german cars for the most part have no soul, no feel, no passion. They are machines and that is it.
If you're wanting non AMG or M spec... Then a Ford fusion / mondeo sport, mazda 6 mps, honda accord sport, alfa guilietta, Jag XF and XE. Maybe a more direct comparison is an opel / vauxhall insignia vs a ford mondeo / fusion vs mazda 6. By miles and miles the ford and mazda are more dynamic and a more exhilerating drive, which none of the big 3 (merc bmw and audi) can match for the price. If you are talking M or AMG or S-line spec... Then you're looking at the XFR, lexus ISF, alfa gulietta quadrofoglio, maserati quatroporte etc. I would say all of those are more exhilarating than the equivalent merc or BM, except maybe the lexus as those can be pretty hit or miss
I have a 2004 BMW 325i and it is the best car I have ever owned! As long as you change the oil and other regular maintenance, it will go forever no problem (seen same car go over 500 000 miles with just a transmission, pumps, bushings and belts replaced). Plus the car has a "soul", RWD straight 6 engine, and all the comfy stuff you can think of. Only setback is that they are extremely hard to find with a standard gear box(in the US that is). I respect these guys but owning a BMW=loads of fun.
What he said at 9:20 around there about it not making him want to drive it is like what Jeremy said about the R8, it's really good but it doesn't make you smile and took the ZR1(I think it was) over the R8 cause it was more fun. Awesome vid (:
this is a nice transition car from the usual japanese cars you guys do, i love my Subaru however the R32 and GTi models are pretty damn good aswell as the BMW M1 series. good work lads
I know exactly what Marty was talking about. I have a 90' Miata and a 13' KIA Rio5 and right now I'm upgrading the suspension on my Miata and I long for the day when I can drive it again
SAABs are awesome! I have a '97 9000 myself and it's so much fun to drive you actually want to keep driving after the 3 hours on highways I do twice every summer.
just found this gold! More VW/Audi average joe videos please :) I've got a VW Polo 1.4 for a runaround, blagged for £250 as it needs a new gearbox. The exhaust sounds amazing!
Just a little "tip&trick"... What happens on those cars is that after you replace bad bush(i don't even know how to write it so sorry...) you still have noise coming from same place - sometimes the arms is worn out too so new bush(ing?) isn't fitting so you have to remove it too... (I'm working in concern service, so that is where i know it from :) )
Like that one dude said, At the end of the video Moog says "its going to make it rediculous" or something like that. Whatever he is working on in that clip looks EXACTLY like the down pipe from a WRX/STI. That S shaped exhaust off of the turbo. He deffenitly got one :)))
Lagging the new vid is a great way to generate hits on your previous vid. Everytime we complain on this vid they get a new hit and get more insurance bucks and exhaust remotes. Love the vids!
There have been subarus with over 1000hp and they perform just fine. And with the awd system tending to understeer, it can be adjusted with modifications so that more of the power is biased towards the rear. You can even look up a 1200hp subaru on youtube. Its a four wheel drive drag machine. And that much power wouldnt be that bad for rally racing. Take a look at the 980hp suzuki escudo pikes peak rally car. Its one hell of a rally car that kicks some serious ass.
I drive a 2007 suzuki swift sport, it's the right combo between a good first car (I'm 17), has nice features and everything apart from the body and engine block is so cheap you don't have to think twice about fiddling with it
Yea, I have to agree with Marty, I love what VW's but they can almost be to well done to the point of feeling dull. When I finally had to buy a new car I had narrowed it down to either a Golf GTi or a CR-Z. I went with the CR-Z even though the Golf is the superior car technically in almost every way. Even so, the CR-Z just has more personality when you drive it, and the look is polarizing, people either hate or like it vs the golfs 'eh' reaction. She is a great platform for modding to boot.
if you dont like the car just ship it my way, and i can put it to use like getting to work and getting from point A to B, i dont mind Euro Cars and from the looks of it i feel like taking it for a ride.....love the vids, keep it up
Marty, you should get yourself a Proton Satria GTi ! It's cheap because it's Malaysian, it's Japanese on the inside, meaning easy to maintain and mod, and handles like a Euro thanks to Lotus' works. It has even got a cult following in Australia. The GTi is just perfect for you ! :D
I love this show but one thing has to be mentioned:overall speaking VW is a very trustworthy brand (and too expensive ok..)if Marty says he doesn´t get a "feel" with the car that´s because it´s supposed to appeal to lot´s of different people. Vw´s are used here in Europe for long milages(80% diesels) and remain expensive even when used.
sometimes it's worth it on transverse mounted engines because of the way the exhaust sometimes needs to bend as the engine kicks a bit under torque it either tries to compress or stretch the exhaust pipe as opposed to rocking to one side as it would in a rear wheel drive car
as a volkswagen owner i would like to see VW make more variations of sports cars. it seems like they put the same 2.0t or 1.8t or whatever engines in all of their cars, it would be nice to see them make larger displacement engines that produce more power from the factory. i think the vr6 is a great engine but its not even offered anymore in GTI/GLI. also i would like to see something different than FWD. i think the golf r was a decent car with its AWD system but its intrusive and won't let you just drive the car and have fun with it. by the way i know having a VR6 engine into a rear wheel drive car makes no sense but I'm just giving ideas. it would be nice to see something different from volkswagen
i've watched you guys grow from doing DIY mods in your mums garage to a fully fledged webshow. over this time i've learnt a lot about you guys.. you bought a hyundai getz didn't you :(
that's a test pipe you're think of. high flow cat is a cat converter with higher flow. Also has platinum inside which reduces a lot of smog that gets put in the air. Seems kind of like magic to me, but has to be some chemical reaction behind it all. Meh, I'm running a test pipe because I couldn't find a cheap enough high flow cat. Gotta pay to save the environment. lol
I dont like the Polo either, but the Lupo i got from my parents because it was crappy has grown to my heart since i put so much work in it to make it run :D
This confirms my thoughts exactly on the VW Golf. my brother bought a brand new 2012 Jetta and found one that was cruising on the highway is actually boring to drive.
I freaking love this intro, in my opinion it's the best one.
Streuth !!!
+Sth29Productions do you by any chance know the specific name of the song in the intro?
+Sth29Productions I think this year's one is the best.
I just click to :30 just to avoid it!
We're happy to wait as long as it takes us to make a mad episode.

I know the reason and its because they want raw power, rather than forced induction, but still, superchargers are forced induction. an example to efficiency is a Land Rover Defender 3.5 litre engine (top of the range) and most powerful vs a Ford F-150 Wildtrak around 5 litres to 6 litres
Thanks for your youtube essay, however I was already aware of ALL of that. I was just making a point that engines here on average are bigger. I didn't imply anything else.
U want VW what is fun to drive? Get the old Golf Mk2.
Moog said that he would get an EVO one day......and he did!!!! 11:15
A polo? That's so lame, pick a good one like Moog suggested
that's exactly why I don't like volkswagens I find them to be boring
+suzukirm250rider1 It's just a basic car :D
But you can do so many things with them so if you don't like something you can just change it
Reckless entertainment as a Volkswagen owner I don’t understand how you could find a car with such unpredictable reliability boring.
You didn't feel anything because you bought the wrong Euro, lol. Should have bought a BMW.
bmw is a turd
In France, if you have a Polo, you lose your credibility and look like a dumb... :/
And most euro hatchbacks are boring (like Clio, Mégane, Corsa, 208, 308 and more) ; a japanese hatch is MUCH more fun !
If you are French you already lose your credibility, sorry dude...
iAMaReaperGotprobZ I don't want to be nasty but go to hell.
If you drive a polo without being a girl, you are a tool in every country, including Germany.
06 mkv gti with awe catback, koni coils, nuespeed chip and p-flo with staggered LM reps, short shifter, boost gauge and more. It's righteous with unicorn pwr! I think Marty needs a Trabant 601
Typical of a german car... Specced well, good on paper... Has no heart. German cars generally lack any type of soul
Reliable? VW lol, lay of the mushrooms buddy.
More VW/Audi average joe videos please :)
I've got a VW Polo 1.4 for a runaround, blagged for £250 as it needs a new gearbox.
(I'm working in concern service, so that is where i know it from :) )
The Polo is a small car,the regular non-Gti models have 1.2/1.4l motors. So a 1.8 TURBO is a pretty big motor for this kind of car.
Ooooooo they changed the title of the video.. must be very close to uploading the new episode!! CANT WAIT GOD DAMN IT
There have been subarus with over 1000hp and they perform just fine.
It's just stupid how much I wan't to see a dude's car which I only know from the internet.
You guys are awesome.
if you dont like the car just ship it my way, and i can put it to use like getting to work and getting from point A to B, i dont mind Euro Cars and from the looks of it i feel like taking it for a ride.....love the vids, keep it up
Marty, you should get yourself a Proton Satria GTi ! It's cheap because it's Malaysian, it's Japanese on the inside, meaning easy to maintain and mod, and handles like a Euro thanks to Lotus' works. It has even got a cult following in Australia. The GTi is just perfect for you ! :D
I'm pretty sure Marty only had this thing for 1-2 months before he realized he really hated it. Haha
I love this show but one thing has to be mentioned:overall speaking VW is a very trustworthy brand (and too expensive ok..)if Marty says he doesn´t get a "feel" with the car that´s because it´s supposed to appeal to lot´s of different people. Vw´s are used here in Europe for long milages(80% diesels) and remain expensive even when used.
sometimes it's worth it on transverse mounted engines because of the way the exhaust sometimes needs to bend as the engine kicks a bit under torque it either tries to compress or stretch the exhaust pipe as opposed to rocking to one side as it would in a rear wheel drive car
that MK5 polo gti is an awesome little car...sadly i totaled mine 4years ago...awesome car marty...
the flange on that downpipe is definatly a 5 bolt t3/t4 style. finaly a big turbo
im starting to just use firefox for youtube an no more annoying ads, thanks for the help. it really only relies on user preference with browsers
as a volkswagen owner i would like to see VW make more variations of sports cars. it seems like they put the same 2.0t or 1.8t or whatever engines in all of their cars, it would be nice to see them make larger displacement engines that produce more power from the factory. i think the vr6 is a great engine but its not even offered anymore in GTI/GLI. also i would like to see something different than FWD. i think the golf r was a decent car with its AWD system but its intrusive and won't let you just drive the car and have fun with it. by the way i know having a VR6 engine into a rear wheel drive car makes no sense but I'm just giving ideas. it would be nice to see something different from volkswagen
Had a 1998 polo, was awesome.
we still waitin' on that episode man..
This Should Be ON TV!
I went from a Civic Coupe to a MX5 and then into a Fiat, A Rover (don't ask) and most recently a SMART!!
Low the car, install negative camber, put some Recaros or Sparcos, straight pipe exhaust and see out it turned out.
i've watched you guys grow from doing DIY mods in your mums garage to a fully fledged webshow. over this time i've learnt a lot about you guys..
you bought a hyundai getz didn't you :(
im just waiting and waiting every day to see next episode i think im addicted to this show
What Marty said was deep and made total sense to me. I completely agree with him.
There's currently many 700+HP 7M-GTE's out there running stable :) MK3's rock too!
I've watched all the other seasons twice over since this one came out in anticipation.
Come on guiz!
And that kids, is why you always get a Honda or a Nissan. Mad looks, fun to drive, badass, and they last forever.
Moog is right, you shouldve gotten an mk4 R32, you would never get bored and would always want somewhere to go just so you could drive it.
Thanks Lextube :D
Agreed! My 08 9-3 aero is sooooo much fun to drive.
Nissan/Infiniti M30, Datsun 510, or Subaru BRAT! madness? THIS. IS. MIGHTY MODS!!!!
guys should buy an alfa romeo , those cars are not boring. ive got a 147 GTA for 3 years and im never getting rid of it.
nothing like that deep euro exhaust sound :)
9:00 - 10:12 still a better love story then twilight
we need more mighty car mods videos incase nobody noticed
that's a test pipe you're think of. high flow cat is a cat converter with higher flow. Also has platinum inside which reduces a lot of smog that gets put in the air. Seems kind of like magic to me, but has to be some chemical reaction behind it all. Meh, I'm running a test pipe because I couldn't find a cheap enough high flow cat. Gotta pay to save the environment. lol
yea we all want new vids but lets not rush them they know how long it has been
Dude they also have real lives. I also hate the fact that it takes 2 weeks for a new vid, but these vids take lots of time to make.
I dont like the Polo either, but the Lupo i got from my parents because it was crappy has grown to my heart since i put so much work in it to make it run :D
I'm sure marty kept the legacy, this is just his new car on the show.
This confirms my thoughts exactly on the VW Golf. my brother bought a brand new 2012 Jetta and found one that was cruising on the highway is actually boring to drive.
I do really love my wife's a3 Quattro. It's an 09 with the 2.0 turbo it's a mad Lil car 🚗.
