Great video, guys! This was fun!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The blue with white roof looks really good on that land rover
Was Cases not white before or am I wrong
@@jasonroberts6402wrap, I think...
The whole thing was white, he must have painted the body blue and left the roof original.
@@BYLRPhil I believe that he said it was a wrap in a previous video.
It looks great!
I watch every piece of Land Rover content on this channel. More!!!!
Me too
@@paulramsay6589 Me three
Roman FINALLY drives it like he stole it!! Nicely done man!!😂
That discovery 2 was sooooooo good looking!
This is why I watch your channel.
Same here
I own 2 of these 3. A 4.4 V8 LR3 with 280k miles on it. Its my daily driver/light duty offroader. Stock with only 32" AT tires and an interior build out with a fridge, water, dual battery system. I also have a 2001 D2 with 240k miles on it, running 35s 4:11 gears, bumpers, etc.. The D2 has lockers so its my go to for the harder stuff, but still has no problem cruising at 70mph down the highway. 20yrs later and its NEVER left me stranded. Its not perfect, but its definitely not as bad as people think.
I also have an lr3 and a disco 2. Love them so much.
I have Disco3/LR3 too and recently almost bought a D5, I say almost because I paid deposit but when I test drove it I didn't feel it was worth the extra $$$ over my LR3..
I've owned an LR4 for 8 years now. Best vehicle I've ever owned, and that's on a list with multiple Land Cruisers and Jeeps.
Sssshhhhhh. Don't say this, you'll start driving the prices up.
I had looked at LR3s but still went back to a Disco 1 to replace my rusted out Disco1. But it has a Disco 2 4.6. 😊
Total Jeremy Clarkson move from Roman.🤣 It was awesome seeing that, "posh ride" fly up that hill. "Speed and Power"
I'm a farmer in the Uk, and Since getting rid of my discovery 2 my life has been less stressful and much less expensive !!! It was an Unreliable heap that i should have sold earlier instead of throwing money at it over 10 years!
What did you get instead?
@@sisisduoI would guess he bought a Toyota Hilux.
You are not a UK farmer, let’s get that right! 👊🏻
Since getting rid of our land rivers, my dad's never felt so bored and lost, nothing comes close to land rovers, in a few years you will probably appreciate the bugger, landys are great trucks, nothing quite like a defender
Why are you even commenting on this video then if u hate land rovers?
Nice review. The Blue Disco looks incredible with the wrap and window tint. What a transformation!
We agree!
This should be a series, next episode Moab.
Talking of series I wish they'd take their series 88 inch land rover out. I have one and a newer one, both very reliable.
I see a camel trophy type event with these three vehicles, perhaps not as extreme, timed stages, fuel stops, challenges along the way to see how all 3 handle them.. example, from my experience sand behaviour is different on D2 and LR3, any sandpits near you?
Case’s rig looks absolutely sweet 👌👌
It does!
Hi from the UK. Personally going offroad, i wouldnt take anything except a land rover, theres nothing quite like them, sure theyre not the most reliable things, but you really do appreciate them when you sell them, you realise nothing comes close, and then you regret selling them, because the price goes up on them😂 my dad wishes he could have any if his land rovers back. Sold our 130 tipper in 2021 250k miles later of hard work, he sold it for the same price he bought it. Had it for 22 years. Nothing comes close, landys are fckn workhorses. And yes lots of farmers have them as there work trucks, is it any surprise. Theyre beasts
Love the Land Rover videos. Keep them coming!
best cars for the money Love and I mean LOVE land rovers keep these videos coming!!!!
Don't know if you read these comments or not. The Disco 2 looks great, looked a little quick on the downhill. Where you in low range? The electronics should lock the torque converter up in low, so if you select low 1st gear, you should have had lots of engine braking. If you left it in D or where in high range, then you will not get the engine braking.
Love the Land Rover content, keep it up!
A 20y/o Land Rover that is still on the road today is way past its reliability issues and is now well into the durability spectrum.
The blue disco looks amazing
We own a 2018 Discovery 5 diesel and couldn’t ask for a better car. Has gotten my wife and family safely through some nasty winter commuting. No issues so far but I won’t lie I bought extended towing insurance 😂
Give the Cyber Truck a wave when you leave the wilderness😂
CyberLog
You know it’s bad when an old rover is better than a new vehicle
Probably stuck
I think the cyber truck is more reliable than a LR🤦🏻♂️
Out there in the wilderness i would rather pick the unreliable land rover rather the cyberstuck needing excavator and portable generator.
The kind of content we subbed to this channel for
Love my L322. Happy to benefit from overblown concerns and misappropriated reputations!
I was told by a Landrover instructor at Eastnor Castle ( Landrover off road test ground in the UK ) that terrain response was invented for the Freelander 1 so that the smallest Landrover could still go where the other models could go in 1997 , the Disco 3 wasn’t launched until 2004
Freelander 1 did NOT have Terrain Response.
Freelander 1 did debut HDC in 1997
Disco 3 was the first LR with Terrain Response.
A standard Freelander 1 doesn’t have as much ground clearance as a Disco or RR, and this definitely limits its off road capability.
I believe the Freelander to be the first with Hill Decent Control, which many used to compensate for the missing Low Range Gearbox.
OK, stop the negative comments! My LR4 has covered off pavement routes from the Arctic ocean to the Mexico border and every western state in between. I've only been stranded once in 130,000 miles. It is my favorite vehicle by far! With the center and rear locker, it goes everywhere. LRL Land Rover Love! ❤
I've had my 2018 RR HSE diesel on parts of the Kokopelli in W Colorado, no problems beside scratched wheels
I'd like to see how the LR3/LR4 train systems work against a something like a 4Runner TRD Off Road or Pro. Being that I've owned LR & Toyota I'm a fan of both. Keep up the LR Vids.
You drive every different brand of vehicles and out of all that knowledge you chose a land rover. I also chose a 2008 Lr3 and I love it. They are the most comfortable and capable vehicle.
When you know, you know.
I have a 2005 Rubicon Wrangler. LR's are not nearly as capable, but they are way better on the street...
@@richfarfugnuven6308Which Land Rover do you own?
@Land_Raver I had a 95 Defender. My dumbass sold it before the prices went through the roof. It was super capable offroad. My Jeep is an '05. The combination of lockers, 37" tires, and solid axles makes it unstoppable on anything but the most extreme trails. I have done the Rubicon and almost all of the worst trails in Colorado, where I live. Slaughterhouse is great in the winter because the snow usually doesn't get too deep until you get over to the north side. I could use some new chains since I put 37's on it...
☝️🤓 When they start
Currently have 2 range rovers and one LR4, all 5.0V8, one is supercharged. All > 140K MILEs today. The 2013 RR easily keeps up with buddies JL off road in Arizona. …. have done these trails in XJ and JK, many trails on open diff, if you know the lines and the machine…. Land Rovers are the most reliable cars I have owned in 40 years. The key is a great independent dealer!! I have owned Nissan, BMW, MB, Jeep, Ford, Chevy/GMC, Honda, VW, and they have all had serious issues, LR brand is better than all. For Japanese fans my VW has an Aisin transmission that slips and high revs > 105F which is 5 months of the year in Phoenix, the German made parts are still good 14 years later. . To be honest the alternator went out at low mileage on the LR4 but was stamped FOMOCO on back side.
Tommy impresses, as usually! Technology over momentum lol. I am a very happy 3 time Range Rover customer😊
Falken Wildpeaks are POS’s. 15k miles on my 22 Tundra and have 5/32” of tread left on the pavement Princess. Toyota says “talk to Falken; nothing wrong with the truck”. Falken says “talk to Toyota, the alignment spec is off and they know it”. Good luck guys.
Don’t usually hear “reliable” and “Land Rover” in same sentence lol. Glad to know there are exceptions.
@@Romans_Toupee for sure it must be a me problem. Yes. Of course. Cuz this is my first vehicle ever and at 15k miles it MUST be the user who hasn’t modified the vehicle.
Thanks for the spelling correction.
Love that you guys epitomized the two kinds of off roaders I've seen over 20 yrs: the momentum/throttle crowd vs. the technical/line crowd. Both are correct depending on the situation. PS you guys never air down enough for me on any of your videos and, as you discovered as we did on the LR4: the rock crawl mode is for most any true off road situation. Sand just adds throttle and higher shifts, snow just slows everything down (nanny inexperienced snow driver mode for "developing drivers")
I think it’s funny that none of them aired down before going up either one. That’s like the first thing you do when off-roading.
Airing down is for not sinking in and a larger footprint neither of this is necessary in snow
@@boudewijnwitvers4006larger footprint isn't necessary in snow? That's interesting 😅
TC gets the best information from the wheels and adapts quicker with the right tyre pressure, it’s all linked. No need to air-down at all.
As kids, we used to drive my Dad's 2WD truck off road with plenty of momentum. As long as it does not hit the bump stops, it's actually not going to cause much harm.
That disco 2 looks fantastic! Great video as usual guys
That Disco 2 looks fantastic in that blue and white, looks like an early Defender or an FJ. 😍
Great video guys. Looks like lots of fun.
Loved this comparison.
When did Case paint his Disco II? The new paint job looks cool though.
When did "Kase" change his name to "Case"?
Good stuff guys!👍 My LR3 stays on the road, so it's nice to see what it can do.
I wonder if Land Rover asked them to do damage control after they bashed the 2020 Defender into a rock in their original off-road review of it...Either way, I'm SUPER glad they are showing people LR's can be finicky but they don't just explode on you and leave you stranded. They're awesome vehicles.
Great video guys. Those Land Rovers were in their true environment and true to form, did wonders. Awesome. ❤
These are the videos I love from you guys!
I smell a price point to price point LR/RR vs. Toyota series in the making. The hand wringing form the Toyota crowd will be epic.
Nice camera work. IF I were to shop for 1 of these 3 choices, it would be the LR3. With them tires. Not that the others did not do well, but I like the functionality and looks of the LR3. Also liked your vanity plate choice Tommy. 👍 🤣 I cannot put something like that on my 4R TRD. It would be a contradiction to its reputation. lol I have the same tires and it walks up terrain like that just as easily with the terrain management systems. (or it can fly up just like the RR did)
The Discos looked good. The Range Rover was a bit of a 'fudge' though. It basically used momentum for all the uphill stretches. That really didn't prove anything. Stop, do a controlled assent from stationary on the ice and see if it was able to go toe-to-toe with the Discos. The last uphill run it was off to the left then off to the right. Pretty ragged.
The newer stuff is always going to have better traction control. If it got stuck it would just come down to tire spec anyway..
And the new stuff doesn't have the articulation of the old disco especially if you take the sway bars off
@@ronaldrrootiii6040I wouldn’t be so sure. The newer stuff actually has long travel air suspension. They’re way more capable off-road than most IFS rigs.
I agree. With momentum even a Toyota Corolla can go up the slippery steep
@@NewEraCommsthat’s absolutely not true. The construction alone on the Range Rover hinders it from ever being off-road worthy. The disco 3 was the last true off-roader Land Rover sold in the US.
The title should read "We Take 3 Land Rovers Up A Hill". The video was entertaining despite the misleading title.
The blue and white looks great!! Sweet looking.
Family togetherness this needs Alex to complete it but still awesome
The "Snow mode" is basically meant for slippery road. Not for offroad use.
Great to see them being used for what they were designed to do.
I know the discovery 2 aren't perfect but it blows my mind in this day in age with everyone dropping huge amounts of money on older suv that you can get some really nice d2 for dirt cheap
I'd go for the LR3. Between the two, it's the perfect balance between offroad capability and on road comfort.
Both are garo
Both are garbage
@@damilolaakanni I don't know my d2 rides super smooth in town and on the highway
How many vehicles last that long and are desirable to own? Most cars from that Era are already gone. The Rovers live on.
That disco 2 looks better every time I see it. 😍
I love that the more hate you get for liking Landrovers, the more you praise them 😂
Keep up the good work lads 🤘👍
"... and not a Toyota to be seen!" 😁 I watch TFL for the Toyota content, but really enjoyed getting some Land Rover exposure with this video. All you guys are great! 😎👍
@TFLoffroad Keep The L405 content coming!
Rock crawl is like having a cdl. Tires will chirp on concrete when you turn.
In Australia we have a saying. If you want to go to the outback take a Land Rover. If you want to go into the outback and make it back u take a Toyota Landcruiser! 😂
That lr3 did surprisingly well for no lockers!
loving the new retro look on the disco 2
Thank you guys I've been waiting for this.
Woooow What an impressive performance when you went to Rock Crawl mode!!! I never expected that. LR3 is a super ride
Owned JLR products since 2006 and have all been good; disco 2, RRS, RR Vogue, Jag F Pace, Disco Sport, Disco 5 and new full fat RR Vogue on its way which I plan to keep and run into the ground over 15 years ( like I did the original Disco 2 which I only sold last year and which was basically the smelly old family dog - loved but neglected- but both my sons ran it and it was regularly used as mobile skip). No worse reliability than Porsche Cayenne or several BMW’s …
Great video. And yes, the 4.4 is the most reliable Landy ever built. My 2006 Range Rover Sport has the same set up, it's basically the non identical twin to the Lr3. 253,000 miles and running STRONG! If I had a. Bigger driveway, I'd have an LR3 on it.
Oh I'm going to love this. LanDOveR baDDERRR.
Case definitely has the best taste in vehicles
Love the colors / upgrades on the Disco II. However, do you guys think that your Rovers can hang with some REALLY old Land Rovers that are very close to stock?? Check out "Vintage 4x4's take on Papa Smurf during the winter 4x4 jamboree 2024" You young bucks might find yourselves in a spot of bother! Mine's the grey one and drove down and back from NorCal. Love your channel, by the way!
Great video guys. I am team LR3, and will always be !
Loved this episode
I have a non-running 2000 Disco II with the Great Basin Rover handle and linkage to lock the transfer case. Great add on if Kase is interested
LR3's are phenomenal things, love my D3 V8
Wow you drove up a hill 😮
D2 should run on 15/18psi to get most of it. Tommy, first ever Terrain response were Freelander not Disco 3.
Yeah and I'm hoping that guy knows that with HD Springs he can completely remove the sway bars the way I did on mine and it still handles good on the road but articulates better off-road and also to use the manual mode in low range because second and third is your best friend . I never use Drive in low range
That’s what I was told about the Freelander 1 when I took my Freelander 2 to Eastnor Castle
I bought a brand new Freelander 2 in 2014 and got a free pass to see what my car could do ( I did use one of theirs not mine 😳 )
The instructor helped develop the Freelander 1 so should know what he was talking about
The 2nd time I went I used a £130,000 Range Rover on the same off road course, fabulous day , it’s scary what they can do
I loved my Discovery 2. It was such a good looking vehicle. Too bad the reliable was terrible!
Love this video. I've since added a Tacoma TRD OR, but I still have my '06 RRS and she still rocks (after a few repairs of course LOL).
Tow please. Great plate...
I love your range rover videos! You guys should get a new discovery out there with you!
I only see one, possibly two, old Land Rovers.
A comment on the Disco2. I have HD Springs also. TAKE OFF the sway bars completely!! The articulation is great but the stiffness is still enough for road handling being good still!! Lol.
Nice Wildpeak snow and ice demo too.
Looks like the boys are buying the beers!
I have had 3 Disco/LR3 in South Africa and the UK. I cannot justify having one now unfortunately, however in my view even today as a practical family car with 4x4 capability with Mercedes S class ride nothing comes close.
That blue color is sharp with the white top
Great video guys! I never would have considered one of these Range Rovers in the past but might now reconsider? I need off roading for my cottage road especially in the winter so love the snow drives.
How many TOW TRUCKS did you have waiting to get them home?
I want to see more Rover content
Just remember, you are always one blown brake light bub away from "why won't my LR3 shift out of first". Carry a Philips screwdriver and spare bulbs. Wouldn't believe it if it didn't happen to me. Also please compare the LR3 side by side to the new Defender you have.
N of 1
$3000 that pretty cheap compared to uk , a quick search for them and highest so far im sure there more expensive but the Land Rover, Discovery 2003(53) 2.5 TD5 GS 5dr (7 Seats) £16,000 thats $21,065.52 United States Dollar, was only a few at £2,000 mark $2,633 but prob had issues but most were around £5,000-£6,000 so $7500-$8000 mark and every one on this used car sale website they all had the best option the td5 a diesel even tho not a lower power they dam good engines and heard them messed with and they make a crazy sound and go well
The New Toyota Land Cruiser looks just like the Old Discovery 2.
Good stuff, love my discovery 2 V8, super underated beast and if you able to do basic work and keep up maintenance and afford fuel they are a bargain at moment!
Why not compare with the new discovery instead of a Range Rover?
Thanks Tommy because of you I'm buying an LR3 this weekend. 😂 I've wanted for a long time and I've finally found some in my price range.
Enjoy!
Love the color Case went with, same color as my Jeep!
Great video - would love to see a mid-range 100 series Land Cruiser go up against the LR3.
Pulling for old Blue!!!
Now we just need one of you to get a late model L322 supercharged!
Is TFL becoming the Land Rover channel?
I don't care which one performs the best, give me that blue Disco all day long!
TFL: Land Rovers are super capable and super reliable. Literally everyone else on the planet including LR owners: these things are massive pieces of shit. I had an lr3, it made it to 143k miles before the trans went, radiator started leaking out of the core, the engine started having issues, 3 of the 4 air springs failed, and the air compressor failed. All within about 4 months of each other. Glad i dont have to fix it anymore, its someone elses problem.
great video i would have liked to see the tyres aired down a little for the snow but hey they all performed really well :)
