My wife and I Found you guys by accident 2 weeks ago and have enjoyed watching your visit to Japan. My wife is Japanese and I retired from Chicago to Kamakura last year. I worked 40+ years in technology industry for the Japanese and love my life here. Your channel has a solid respect for Japan and are spot on assessing life here. Great couple… mature and respectful. I’ll be looking at earlier travels soon. Entertaining!
4:35 Cheveyo got the Limited time item for winter, 「Fuwa-toro Egg Demi-glace Gracoro」(ふわとろたまご濃厚デミグラコロ) It got soft fried egg and Demi-glace sauce which gives it the beef flavor. (the sauce is with beef) and グラコロ Gracoro. "Gracoro" is Japanese McDonalds' special winter limited item since 1993. It's a McDonalds special korokke. Gracoro means "gratin korokke". And it is a shrimp macaroni creamy white sauce gratin korokke.
love the little time lapses in between your objectives in the videos. Japan is such an amazing place to just take in the sights, literally everywhere. I love the organization and layouts of the cities and towns
I love your videos. They’re informative but also really fun. But something in particular caught my attention this time. When Tia bites into her chicken burger she says, “Hold the phone!” I thought to myself, here’s a 20-something (I think I’ve heard her say 25 years old before?) American in a Japanese fast food joint uttering a old American saying here in 21st century. So I looked up its origin for the fun of it. This is from Quora: the term “hold the phone” goes back to the 1940s when newspaper reporters had to call in their stories to the office. A news story would break and they would ask to “hold the phone” while they got new information.
I've been eating MOS Burgers for 35 years. Here's a few things your may not know. First, each store is designed by the owners. No two are alike and the look and style is unique. Secondly, the MOS burger does taste like a breakfast sausage because it is a blend of beef and port, I think 60/40. It used to be 100 percent beef but they cheaped out years ago to add greater profit to the chain. Not the same. Third, the best thing about MOS is the fried potatos. They never leave them sitting in a warmer and they are cooked as ordered. Super huge, three times the size of those nasty limp McD's and will burn your mouth if you eat right away...heavenly. Finally, they make milkshakes that are great. Moca (coffee) is to die for. Give them another try. Go for the huge Mos Cheeseburger (includes a chili sloppy joe type topping, and messy doesn't begin to describe it. And don't forget the fries. BTW, in Taiwan, they make special fries out of Sweet Potato. That's worth it's own trip. You're welcome.
I love the way Japanese people take western food and put their own twist on it. If you haven't tried Japanese Italian food, give it a try - one of my favourites. If you're still in Tokyo, try Al Dente in Shinjuku.
OK, now we are into my specialist subject of expertise! It's been a while since I was in Japan, but Mr Donut breakfast was a required start to every day! Ironically, favourite McDonalds item is the Samurai pork teriyaki burger in..... Thailand. Vietnam McDonalds has about 7 different sauces, which is awesome. Mos burger here in Singapore have a beef burger with a kind of bolognaise sauce which is fantastic, and they have the best fish burger too.
The regular Mos Burger is not that great, but the Spicy Mos Burger (not spicy at all) is really good. Also, in Japan, you have to ask for the ketchup on the side and most McD and MOS has ketchup on the condiment counter. Some even have a sweet chili sauce too
*Kare Pan (カレーパン fried curry bread) sold in every shoutengai(street market) and bakery. Hot crispy outside and curry filling! a perfect after school snack to pick up on the way home walking through the local shoutengai. *Korokke (コロッケ croquettes) and fried sausage/fried meat/karaage on a stick from butcher's shops! Butcher's shop korokke and snacks are worth a try! Butcher's shop also often seen in shoutengai. Sells very nice food to have on the go. Korokke is one of the most popular item.
The “sankaku” (triangle) pie is seasonal. The have the beef stew pie this Winter, but my favorite is the bacon potato pie. And yes, you have to ask for ketchup, but mustard you’ll have to pay for it because they only have the mustard as an optional deeping sauce for the chicken nuggets. Oh!! They might still have the seasonal sauces for the nuggets (crab and the other one I can’t remember). You can have a little discount if you download their app.
I think burger chains like MOS and McDonalds often has only a few items that is very good. So you have to know which items most of the locals really love. For MOS I used to like their Shrimp Cutlet Burger海老カツバーガー. For McDonalds I think Teriyaki burgers have been popular for a long time. And I've seen many people actually just loves the basic basic basic cheese burger or double cheese burger from them.
I'm Japanese, but I didn't know 'MOS' stood for Mountain, Ocean and Sun, haha. Thank you ! 😅 'SANKAKU PIE' that Tia-san had in a hotel room means 'triangular pie', btw. 🔺 😋
You mentioned that one day you should walk across Tokyo. The last time I was there (2017), my wife and walked the “Yamamoto line marathon”. It took almost 13 hours but it is a fantastic way to see Tokyo!
In houston, texas a lot of McDonald i go to does not give out ketchup unless you ask for it and if they do its like under 3 packet if lucky. I notice this after covid pandemic. They trying to reduce cost or someth😢
When you get back to Melbourne from the wedding can you add a 3rd burger chain the this comparison? I suggest the Australian chain, Grill’d is similar to Mos burger in concept and certain what you see is what you get. Australian style burgers have a history in coming from what called a milk bar, which was literally a hot plate for cooking at the back of a local convenience store. They don’t exist anymore but the idea lives on in many a pub with an Aussie style burger being with “the lot”. 4 ingredients that are additional include sweet, pickled beetroot (compulsory, adds sweet-sour), bacon, egg and pineapple Hard to get one with the lot these days, but Grill’d has an “Almighty” which you can add bacon and pineapple to.
Until April 23 MOS burger patty was part pork and beef. Since 4-23 they now serve 100% Japanese beef. I live in "Formosa" and am looking forward to trying out this burger.
I was in Japan this March - April, I did try both McDonalds and Mos Burger too. I found that Mos Burger was better. First, you can get a cheese burger without "that" teriyaki sauce and it is all made fresh by order and no red light warming for pre-made food like at McDonalds!
When we stayed in Tokyo in 2014, the hotel restaurant was a Denny's. I think it was the Hotel Mets Komagome. My wife didn't join us the first night as she thought it would be typical American Denny's fare. There were no Grand Slam items or anything resembling their American menu. No heavy, greasy food. It was all very light and tasty. My then 11-year-old son loved the doorbell button for placing the order, then the teamwork in delivering the various ordered items. I've yet to try the Japanese versions of KFC, Mr. Donut, or Yoshinoya. Does Burger King or McDonald's still serve the various black bun burgers? I think squid ink is used to make the black buns. Looking forward to more videos!
I like MOS burger’s there tasty but too small I find!!! Yep I love the really old and futuristic about Tokyo!!! We been over 20 times and going next year again!!! So I would love the long city walk vid!!!! 👍🏻😬
I asked for ketchup at a Japan McDonalds once and I didn’t care for it. The texture and flavor are completely different than the US McDonalds ketchup. Neat thing though is that it comes in a little container, like McNugget sauce.
I ate at both places when I was in Japan last month and while Mosburger has better quality overall, I have to agree that their patty is more like a breakfast sausage.
The drink was called Qoo. If you guys get a chance look for a desert store called Ringo, which make apple custard pies, than are small but consistent and like 300 yen for one.
@@OnePackWanderers there are some in the Tokyo area, Ikebukuro station 1st floor, Tokyo Midtown (Yurakucho/Hibiya area), Lalaport Toyosu, and Keihin Kawasaki station. Other locations in Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, as well
I AM TOTALLY IMPRESSED when I went to KFC in JAPAN. There’s a glass room for smokers. Then after meal, everyone has to separate the bones, plastics (straws), ice into different disposal bins!
They are excellent for wet! For cold, you really gotta wear a layer underneath + use the ‘vest’ add-on. Overall we’re really happy with them. The packaging is awesome for our packs, and we’d like to think they look cool 😎
What MOS burger store location? I just started watching your youtube videos- love your adventures in Australia. I'm from QLD Australia. I hope you make it to the sunshine state.
Mari Carts are awesome.... we did it in 2019 around Tokyo and Osaka. both good for different reasons. Recommend evening one in Tokyo i got up to 85km/hr going down Tokyo Bridge......
Do the walk maybe broken into different districts and prefectures but hop onto the trains. Nice comparison video 🙂 but I wonder why you don’t do coffee comparisons 😊
🌭Hotdog🌭 *Japanese style cafe hotdog. Made with German/Europe style sausage. Can find them in some nice specialty coffee shop or cafe. A nice cup of coffee and a good hotdog, sometimes with fancy toppings. In a beautiful ambiance cafe or a local coffee stand. Life!
3 trips to japan and still haven't tried Mos Burger. Tried McDonalds a few times cos a couple of times, it was right next to the hotel. Hoping to try Mos Burger on an upcoming trip.
The chicken teriyaki burger is delicious, but the pork teriyaki burger is more popular, I think. Try it next time!! By the way, both are difficult to eat with clean lips!! LOL
Ketchup with French fries? Must be an American thing. In Australia tomato sauce belongs on pies and hotdogs and sausage rolls. Chips (French fries) require gravy if anything.
Great video guys. Cheveyo thoughts on the mos patty lines up with another you tubers views on mos burgers. The chicken burger Tia had looks more appealing from mos. macaroni noodle in a burger? wow. Kinda sounds yum actually 😄 The burgers from Mos burger looked delish!
It was interesting, for sure! Weird texture for a burger but the flavor was nice
What background music sound like japan you use?
We find all the music on Epidemic Sound. The Japan-sounding stuff is probably from Osoku, who is a Japanese-Canadian artist 😄

Lol Happy Travels
Agreed. I almost turned off the camera right there 😂🤣
“Ketchup is the only reason we eat French fries” Amen to that ☺️☺️☺️
This is the way 🙂
10:59 Ketchup is not fancy by most Asians, we tend to have more sweet chilli sauce instead
Yea this makes sense.
Ketchup with French fries? Must be an American thing. In Australia tomato sauce belongs on pies and hotdogs and sausage rolls.

Oh to eat the burger with the wrap, just fold the corners down.

This is a nice compromise 🙂
Or do 10 miles, sleep in a capsule, then do the last 10.

Ask for tomato sauce (ketchup)
Actually, the best fast food burger in Japan is at Wendy's. Do try!
At Mickie D's if you want ketchup just ask and they will give you some and get the Shaka fries next time.
Great video. What is Tia’s ethnicity?
I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more. To be that Wanderer to 500 miles all over Tokyo. Da da Dat da. 🤣😂
You'd have to ask directly for ketchup in Japan! : )
Big Mac was $$12.00-US and tasted the same as the USA.
Oh wow, the Big Mac costs $12 here?!
Nahhh this one doesn't count. You need to get fresh fried chicken from macD and the rice burger from MOS. I demand a rematch!
Freshness Burger hands down better than Mos.
You’re not the first to say that. Gotta try it 🙂
If you ask the clerk for ketchup, you can get it for free.
Mayonnaise not ketchup with french fries. Ketchup is yuk and Kewpie mayo wins!
Strong agree.
i was going to say that burger looks more like a sausage patty than a burger
You have to buy you ketchup. It's not free like in the US.
If we go again, I’m buying some just to see what it costs for one pack of ketchup 😂
