Did Dopey’s in 2017 and still the best fun running I’ve ever had! I took the family and my daughters, son, daughter-in-law and son in laws did it with me, and the grandchildren did the 5km. Highly recommend it!
I love racing hard, but we most definitely PRd in the fun department! Going to be hard to top for sure. One of my favorite parts was seeing all the families dressed up at the 5k and I know those kids had an amazing time!
Congratulations, and again, thank you for sharing your experience, tips, and stories. Disney does a phenomenal job with their events. I was there this year for the half with my daughter, who was completing her first half, and yes, 100% agreement; for us, we had to earn the medal. We were there running at the larger parking lot area early in the morning. Congrats again on an amazing accomplishment!
Oh gosh, that would've been hard to only be there for the half and not get that whole experience. But so happy to hear you controlled what you could and got those 6 miles in before the start. Just shows that much more your and your daughter's commitment! Congrats to you both!
Could not agree more! I have Covid year to thank for them as I finally let myself join a running group to be able to see other humans. Running group kind of fizzled after that, but we stayed close and I'm so thankful for them. Thanks Tim! What are you up to these days?
I'm in Chicago 2024. Not sure I can do it but I'm down to 170 lbs. from 180. Lots of work to do. I'm helping a few high schoolers with their training. Thanks for all that you do!
Loved your recap of this year's Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend! I'm so glad I only ran the marathon this year, but kudos to you all for completing the Dopey Challenge!!
Congrats on your marathon Angelie - I hope you had the BEST time! Well just know you can do it if you want to!! Mostly being smart about pacing in the races prior and managing expectations as well.
The early wake ups are worst than the 48.6. It's such a shame we didn't coincide there!!! I missed my marathon PR by 2 mins and I wasn't even pushing. I had an excellent Dopey Challenge. Congratulations on your finish to you and your friends❤
So hard getting out of bed! Bummed I didn't see you. Looked like you had a wonderful time there with your friends. Wow 2 min. off of your PR is awesome - sounds like your body is ready for a marathon PR...the weather was so perfect for fast times! Even though this is def not my preference to go after a PR, I do think the congested start probably helps people slow down early when going out too fast is often a reason people struggle in the marathon. Congrats, Suzie!! What's next for you?
@@runningwithjane we were in corral B so things were a lot less congested. The marathon was less congested than NYC was for me for example. I think it was such a successful marathon because I paid attention to my body in terms of water intake and gel intake. I felt pretty good, other than at the end at that ramp going into HS. That was CRIMINAL! Haha I am going to train for a fast half this spring. I actually started today. Still trying to qualify for Boston at some point in the near future
Oh I'm sure NYC with that is tough! Chicago and Boston are very congested too which I don't like, but most people running at similar pace. Yep, being in our correct corral would have helped a lot I'm sure haha. We were in C for the marathon and it was definitely least congested of them all. Enjoy your half training and I know you can get that BQ!@@IRunThings
Thanks for posting the video. I'll be doing Dopey next January. As someone who is doing Chicago in October as a goal race, I'm a bit concerned about the turnaround time between Chicago and Dopey, but since I plan on running the Dopey races for fun, I think it should be fine.
Yes, you'll be just fine! I did the same. After Chicago I was very focused on good recovery through the month of October. Started more specific training for Dopey exactly 3 months out. But I was also just running it for fun and knew a focus on volume and not intensity would allow me to do that and cover the distance strong without a time goal. My weekly mileage topped out in the low 50s for Dopey vs. low/mid-60s for Chicago. Best of luck as you train for both...lots of fun ahead for you.
Awww Mery you're the bestest for dragging yourself out of bed in the middle of the night to cheer us on! So fun to get to know you a bit more and hang out, too. Hope the rest of your vacation was a blast!
So glad you had fun Jane I did Dopey in 2020 (but not managed to do it again as it sells out so quickly). No problem with early starts as flying from London I stayed on 'my' time so 5 hours ahead and 2.30 was 7.30 for me). I actually walked most of the races to soak up the atmosphere. The volunteers and supporters are amazing - especially if you dress up like I did. Oh and I was there on my own that time and had a blast 😊
Oh being from London that's perfect! No jet lag AND you're bright eyed and bushy tailed unlike everyone else haha. Glad you mentioned doing it alone and having a blast...that was a question someone had asked me. The atmosphere really is SO much fun!! Hope you get back there to do it again someday!
Thank you Coach Jane, that was a very heartwarming and encouraging video. Having your friends along to enjoy the journey, and make memories ((shout out to Renee and Heather - Hello Hello)). I think that I smiled a lot during this video, and so did you. I love all the medals too, great pictures, great experiences, great memories. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, and have an awesomeness day Coach Jane.
Memories for sure!! They are the bestest friends and I'm so lucky to have them. We are different, but think very similarly when it comes to running, challenging ourselves and getting the most out of life! Yeah, not sure what I'm going to do with those medals just yet, and don't really have room for more shirts haha...they definitely give you all the things!
How wonderful Jane! What a great accomplishment and it looks like such a good time with your friends. You're really glowing in this video, I can tell you really had a blast. Someone recently told me, "live more, love more", well you're the perfect example of that! 😉 Thanks for sharing your experience!
That person sounds smart! 🤣 Thanks, Rob - it really was much needed. I never want to stop running, but I definitely needed a break from the serious grind and pressure of a time goal. But mayyyybe ready to get back to that in the half marathon for this spring! Sometimes you just need a reset and great friends.
I loved this recap- thank you for sharing, Jane!! What a treat to see your fun experience - I’m so glad you had a great time. How cool about the 6 mile loop you all did together as well 😁 thank you for answering those questions too!
How sweet of those women to cheer for you from the parking lot to the end! Sounds like you had a great time! You deserve it! Even though it does sound like a big challenge.
Looking back it went way better than my mind made it out that it was going to be. But we were pretty calculated in our decisions about how to manage it all and that made it go so smoothly. It was way more fun than it was hard!! And yes, those women were the coolest!
Aaaww I found you looking for running tips for the Chicago marathon & was so happy to see you ran the dopey. Dopey is so fun but so early!! Next time go to runner relations they might be able to move you
We thought about that - line was so long and we were like we'll be fiiiinnneee....haha, definitely noted for next time!! And thank you - will always hold this one close to my heart!
@@runningwithjane my sister and I decided to run it in 2022 on a whim over a cup of coffee… we didn’t tell our husbands until after we registered 😅 They were champs and watch all the kids for the many many hours of training + marathon weekend
Just the right amount of "extra" to change your shirt to match the race you were discussing! Haha loved it and that roller coaster story was wild, what a great memory. Congratulations on completing your challenge.
Haha, so glad you noticed! Wish I was wearing the Dopey one to start...that yellow one was not my favorite haha. Yes, memorable for sure and thanks so much!!
@@runningwithjane Disneyworld. So we'll do the one in January, the Princess in February and the wine and dine in Oct\Nov. My wife is a massive Disney fan. We'll get an annual pass to help with the ticket costs. No Dopey challenge though. Okay, so I am adding this up...what they don't talk about is $$$$ cost. Holy Cow! I remember running Boston 2 Big Sur a few years back, and it was a "one and done" thing to do that because it felt so financially indulgent (over $700 just for registration for both). This challenge is double that, guessing after flight, hotel and the four races, makes my head spin. But I digress, it sounded like a ball for you and your friends. Congrats to you all. It does my heart so much good knowing this keeps it fun for a stud muffin like you!
Ah yes, it is definitely expensive and I know it's a privilege to be able to do it. Though I'd say you cut down on airfare and hotel compared to B2B since you're only in one place? It was just under $700 to register for all 4 races so yes, definitely a little🤢 when signing up. We also split a hotel room 3 ways since we shared one, so that helped. But the parks are obvi very expensive if you do that. Thanks for the kind words - definitely was a heart-filling kind of wknd!
Yeah, you gotta do it!! Yep, safety first! We were talking after how yeah, if lightning just started coming down on people mid-race with so many people it would have been a giant cluster and probably pretty frightening. I always trust these calls because I know it's so hard to make them and they wouldn't do it if they didn't have to.
Disney was my first marathon and was SO MUCH FUN. I'd love to do Dopey in 2025- currently suffering from major fomo for not doing any Disney races this year.
That's awesome, David!! The more I think about it, I'm sure it's a good first one as long as you're good with the crowds, etc. Definitely no lack of fun! I hope you get in for Dopey 2025!!
