I took some lessons via skype from some lady who was from Russia - she taught me not to use the thumb (though when I played for an accordion club they said "oh you play old school") - and I have some sheets from another teacher using the thumb. I think traditionally if one is a beginner, you learn without the thumb and it comes in later. In the end it probably doesn't matter - exept it's like typing, if you learn the pattern right...well...it just works out better in the long run.
I am beginner and I try to find right way to use fingers.. I like Alexandr Hrustevich plays. He use quite little thumb. Fast Vivaldi solos seems to use only 2-3 fingers :D
Very interesting and nicely and comprehensibly explained. I wish I had chosen to play chromatic accordion, but I did not know about them at the time. For someone like me, a bumbling amateur, I am positive that I would be a better player if I had learned the chromatic. Best wishes, Mike ps - like your Twizy car!

Thank you!
What is difference between B and C systems?
The note pattern is reversed. B is common in Russia, C some other places in Europe. Basics: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_button_accordion
Great video! Hey, is that button accordion sheet you uploaded, the same layout pattern of a Bayan?
Cool
Is there a beginner version of this accordion? Hopefully cheaper than 3k
