Sina I've been playing drums the better part of 40 years and I can honestly say that you're one of the best drummers I've seen in a generation. You're an inspiration. Also the respect that you show the artists says a lot about your character. Great job!!

By paying close attention it is amazing to hear how the drums set you up for what is coming next.

THE SONG - "Mr. Roboto" was written and sung by Styx keyboardist Dennis DeYoung. It was recorded in 1982 and released on Feb. 11, 1983 on their concept / rock opera album 'Kilroy Was Here' at 5:30 length with an extended synth intro that was deleted for the 4:44 single. It peaked at #3 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart on Apr. 16, 1983.
"Mr. Roboto", on its own - with some Japanese lyrics and vocoder treated vocals, can seem rather strange. It tells the story of a future time when a musician named Kilroy is imprisoned by a fascist group called the Majority for Musical Morality. He escapes by disabling a robotic prison guard and hiding inside its shell. It forms part of the 'Kilroy was Here' rock opera album which greatly expands on this future / fantasy theme. The album was a response to a previous accusation of "lyric backmasking" and some groups that wanted albums with "backmasking" to bear a warning label. In protest, Styx deliberately included backmasking on one of the album tracks. The keyboard-oriented, theatrical, synth-pop style that Styx adopted wasn't received well by some critics. Rolling Stone, on April 14, 1983, gave 'Kilroy was Here' two of five stars. Internal disputes about the direction the band was taking resulted in Styx disbanding in 1984.
THE DRUM COVER - Styx drummer, the late John Panozzo, grew up in Chicago with his fraternal twin Chuck, who played bass for Styx, and neighbor Dennis DeYoung. Although John used an acoustic Tama drum kit, the sound, on "Mr. Roboto" seems rather processed. The more natural sound that Sina favors is a very good fit for this cover. Nicely done! Domo arigato, Sina!
THE ICON - Niki is back and it's business as usual at the Iconology Clinic.

Awesome way to go...love Styx and your drumming. I was 16 years old when this album was released. At that time in popular music STYX was arguably the biggest and most popular band in the United States and Canada ( btw I’m Canadian). But their previous records that were also huge sellers had a more progressive hard rock/ metal sound to them. So you can only imagine the surprise to their fans....me included when Mr. Roboto was released. Although I bought the album and still loved Styx I had a hard time accepting this new sound. It didn’t really matter after that because they broke up and everybody moved on from Styx.... me included. I was heartbroken to say the least.
Fast forward a few decades and it’s great to see Styx still together and touring every year and releasing new albums. For all you younger generation of music fans.... GO SEE THIS BAND LIVE!!!! I did recently and wow.... best live classic rock band out there period. Still youthful looking and rocking like there’s no tomorrow.
    Peace

Great job of playing to the song. Keep up the thing you do well playing drums. I started in 59 at age 9. Most my cousins in Texas were way older then me. Like 15 to 18 Yrs of age. I always watch my one cousin on drums. How he played. Once I saw here left to his girlfriends house. I snuck on his drums and his girlfriend got mad at him he came home early and he caught me on his drums and I said oops. Thought I was going to get beat up. Instead said let's see what you can do. He said just watching me you learned that. I said yep. Make a long story short joined a band at 14 Yrs old. Played drums over 30 years. Band 18 Yrs. I'm retired now. Guess what I'm going back to drumming I still remember the drums lol. 68 soon. God Bless wish I had a girl like you to say that's my daughter on the drums.

I have liked this particular track since I was a kid, Sina. This sounded like the original at the beginning - your hi-hat thing was really amazing, at first I thought it was a metronome playing in the background. Then your "acoustic Sina style" kicked in, which I like better since the original seemed to sound synthetic. This is now one of my favorite covers from you, Sina :)

    Brilliant choice, performed to perfection.
Styx are one of my all-time favourite bands, and although I can think of a few tracks I generally prefer to Mr Roboto, they don't have such interesting or challenging drum parts, so this is a great choice, and you absolutely nailed it.
BTW, I already have "Savage" in it's entirety in my regular daily play rotation, and I'm eagerly awaiting the CD, as I'm old fashioned enough to prefer something physical as well as a download.

Still one of my favorites from my youth, and you nailed it! And the analog drum sound really adds kick.

*You are weird, I LIKE YOU* Most likely one of Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler's wedding vows 😊 I'd like to see more expressive t-shirts like that! 😎 Really enjoyed this one Sina. You played this with such ease and authority. So in the groove. You really do have the soul of an 80's kid! It amazes me time and time again hearing you comment like you do. "Dennis DeYoung, for me one of the most beautiful voices in Rock music." What 18 year old kid says these things today! One of the many things that separates you from the masses lil lady! Your discerning taste in music. Certainly something that has been lost in youth today. 😁 Now you can add Styx to your long resume of classic youtube covers. Hopefully you still have many more coming. I saw them in K town (Kaiserslautern) Germany in 80s I could see in their faces that they did not like each other. It was festival seating meaning no seats. It was however a great show, jammed every note. They also did a really good encore, they played until the last minute as I was told. City imposes a 10:30 quiet hour and they played until that time. It was also cool how they stopped, it sounded as if somebody pulled the plug on the instruments. They kept singing. I read in the paper that the city fined them for some reason, must have been a protest.
Sina another good presentation your evolving into a true professional. I liked the verbage incorporated in the middle. And that is what happened.

Dennis DeYoung is one of my most favorite singers. The guy has an excellent voice. I never really thought Kilroy Was Here was a great album, though. To me, their best album is The Grand Illusion. The song Castle Walls is an absolute epic song. But, anything before Paradise Theater is a great Styx album. One of my most favorite bands, though. And, great cover. You look really cool when you play the drums. :)

Thank you for covering this beautiful song. I'm always impressed with your song selection. There are songs that I have not heard for a long time, but I really like to remember. As in this case. I love to see you playing the drum part of classics. And I admire you for how you do it

This was where I totally ran the other way from Styx. I wasn't alone. But what I really want to say is, as usual, Sina nailed it. I am continually awed by her range and depth. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is constantly promoting her on FB and other forms of social media. I'm puzzled that she isn't more popularly known and appreciated. Maybe it's because she refuses to cover all the current pop stuff (THANK GOD!). I can't wait for THE GAS to tour the states so I can see her live.

Nice to see new generation covering Styx. First time I heard that band was over twenty years ago but it was only in April 2007 for me to first hear "Mr. Roboto" performed by Dennis DeYoung with rock symphonic orchestra in Wilfrid Pelletier concert hall. The word "robot" is Czech origin and has the same origin as "Arbeit" since both words have similar consonants in the same order.
Personally, I consider Styx the American Queen for the following reasons. Dennis DeYoung and Freddie Mercury share some similarity in vocal range and played piano/keyboards. Both bands experimented with different genres. And finally, for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Styx have "Suite Madame Blue" which is worth covering. Perhaps more so. Unfortunately, Styx were originally underrated and seemed to enjoy better popularity in Canada.

You nailed the groove to the stage. Very cool.
I would like to think John Panozzo himself would and does smile and bob a head or foot along with your jam, wherever he may be...
This tune and the whole Kilroy album have always caught a lot of flack, but I always dug it, especially this tune. Well done!
As far as the negative trolls...,
If they like it, say "Cool! Awesome!", (with a sincere smile), :D
and if they don't, say "Cool! Awesome!", (with a sinister grin) >:)
