A really fun place towards the end of March/Early April, is Summer Lake. Beautiful place. Lots of birds, dancing cranes and petroglyphs . Very magical✨ I loved that Blue Heron. It’s always great to see Eagles anywhere😸

@@KW-kr9gh awesome! So glad you like it!!! Interested in hearing what you think of this weeks video (going live next Tuesday). The music is a bit different. Trying new things. :)
I thank you 100% for instilling in me the courage to stop coloring my hair at the beginning of quarantine. I'm loving and owning my silver streaks (I have to determine the difference between gray/grey vs. silver) and actually received compliments, with people asking me who did my great color job. My response "Menopause!" I recently had a haircut, (not too short), with layers and I'm liking it. I find using a styling brush vs. a hot comb much easier and given the texture of my hair, it works like a charm. Keep doing what you're doing, keep teaching, keep exploring, keep laughing and keep loving!
I wore my hair shoulder length or shorter since I was 10. Since I let it go grey I also grew it long. I have never gotten so many compliments in my life. I'm about to turn 57. It's not for everyone my age, but I believe it works for me 😁
Took two years to grow my hair to my shoulders after I stopped highlighting and it’s the best thing I ever did... the grey is more unique! Great points thank you for your video!! Love the scenery
Another tip is to keep it healthy, I have naturally grey hair since I turned 50 and no one believes me when I tell them my age. As we age our hair changes and the shampoo we have used in the past may strip it of healthy oils. Go with a shampoo that is good for grey hair (I personally use head and shoulders even through I do not have dandruff), condition it and you can even try adding certain vitamins and minerals to your diet to encourage healthier hair. I have always been a low maintenance kind of gal. Little to no makeup, more concentrated on skin care and sun screen than makeup and taking care of what I am blessed with. But Grey hair often is frizzier than youthful hair so you have to take additional steps to keep it healthy and glowing and soft. And do your best to keep it trimmed up even if that means taking the time to get it trimmed up more often than you have in the past to get rid of dead ends, just have them only take off what needs to come off instead of shortening it as much as you normally would have it cut. As we age we have to take better care of ourselves, make time to exercise to stay fit and active, eat healthier, and splurge by investing in a massage and hair cut. I have a monthly appointment for both to ensure I stay the best I can especially since I am in a youth oriented market. I feel better, I look better and to be honest is money I save in other areas by wearing a classic investment wardrobe built over several years, not following trends unless they are something I look amazing in so I shop less for new clothes and spend more on my body and mental health than I do on things that may wear out or go out of style.
So so true. I have started to do the same. Less investment in clothes and new styles. And more investment in my health and well being. More exercise and more relax time.
Interesting, it's been the opposite for me. I still have old dyed ends and my natural hair (about 50% gray and 50% medium brown) is much stronger and healthier than when I was coloring it. The gray hairs seem to be the same texture as the parts that aren't gray yet.
Tuned in for the info on grey hair, stayed for the scenery and animals- subscribed because you talk sense. Love the scenery, can’t wait to travel again. XXX

I left Oregon almost 7 years ago and moved to Ecuador; I haven’t been back to the states since. So this video was especially wonderful for me-and, as I have gray hair, relevant. If I ever manage to get back I know who I’m going to try and get to cut my hair!! Thanks!
Really liked the tips/mistakes to avoid. Just because I m letting my gray grow does not mean I m letting myself "go". Appreciate the advice and the hikes. The waterfall is my fav.
That Eagles Nest is the coolest! Justin, thank you so much for addressing and supporting the natural salt n pepper/ gray hair. I've always had longer hair, and haven't colored my hair in 3 years. This was very helpful! Thank you thank you. 💗 I wish you were near me!
That was awesome! I really enjoyed that! Hair is organic, nature is organic. They go hand in hand. Very healing to watch! Lot's of passion, fun, and humor. Oh but don't forget all the beauty!!!!!
So....I live in Montana and am a fly fishing guide. Clicked on your video and thought, "Wait a sec...did I click on the wrong video?" (I watch a lot of fly fishing videos....) To my surprise, not only did I get some fantastic tips, but I felt like going fishing on that river. Love your combo of nature and hair expertise!
That's awesome! I grew up around a father that used to tie his own flies and his best friend owned a Fly fishing company called Kaufmans Streamborn. I never really got a chance to do it too much but it looks SUPER relaxing!
So here we are three years later and these points are still valid. I'm now gray, have taken off excess length, gotten layers and am looking into lowlights. Too many people (including aging men with ponytails or turnip heads) get stuck in a look and never change. Hair is a security blanket. But it is so much more fun and freeing to make changes. That's what keeps us young. :)
I really enjoy these videos. Being outside whether close to your home or far is still pretty cool. Wish I could just fly to Oregon and sit in your chair and let you put all your experience into applying some of these tips on my head. Wish my hairdresser watched you!
Thank you! And I totally agree, the aging topic (although I create a lot of videos about it) is always a little bit of a “back and forth” topic for me.
You explained the edgy look well and it makes good sense! As does your low lights with gray suggestion. I took a few inches off my hair and added more layers a few weeks ago. I enjoy your hair videos & hikes!
Hi Justin. Can you put out a video on best short styles and how to style for natural grey hair that is coarse with a life of its own? When I was younger(I'm 60 now), my hair texture was naturally wavy. As I aged, my grey hair changed to a coarse frizzy texture that is difficult to manage and smooth out. About a year ago...I got the Brazilian Blowout...which only lasted a few weeks. Not happy about that. Expensive FAIL for sure. I did love the straightness/smoothing while it briefly lasted. Anyhow...ever since that process...forward to today...my hair will not hold much wave or curl AT ALL. Not with curling iron, not with heat/foam rollers. The only rollers that will actually curl my hair are the "self rolling" ones that grab the hair. They also tear my hair strands OUT when I remove them! I have had my hair shortened to above my ears so it is more easily managed, but I am losing my mind with the flatness and zero volume. Using texture products make my hair gunky and heavy. My aged hair is dry...so I only wash it every 3 days. Can't stand the GUNKI-NESS. Please help? thanks. I would send you a photo if I knew how to do that. I simply wish I could figure out how to add volume without gunking up my hair. "reverse" Blowdrying doesn't work either. My hair is completely resistant to artificial volume building. Help?
I love these tips! I plan to make some changes soon, so this advice will be my guide. Thanks for sharing your expertise! Could you share some ideas for a cut that would help my round face look better?
Wow, Oregon is so beautiful!! What a unique approach to sharing your expertise. I love the look of lowlights on gray hair. Will lowlights look right on curly hair?
Loved, loved, loved the background. Spotted the eagle's nest immediately and wondered if you knew it was right behind you. Oh, and the hair tips were cool, too!! LOL
When I was a kid there were very few Bald eagles left. Almost wiped out from a poison. Luckily they were saved. 25 years ago was the first time I saw one fly over. I had to pull over and cry. I live far northern California and see them often now. Thanks for hair tips
Thanks for the great advice. Love my grey hair I was actually happy I went grey early. However I wasn't loving the drastic difference in my darker hair in the back and white in the front or the texture difference between the two natural colors. Had lowlights put in the front today and love them. Also had it cut into a semi dramatic bob. Great advice.
Once again, such amazing views! It looks pretty cold ; O Funny thing about jumping in a cold river, when you get out your body is actually warmed considerably. River water that comes off the mountain is ideal, a good way to warm up in the late afternoon when camping ( you can end up with a brain freeze if you wash your hair as well, mind... ) Great tips/mistakes Justin ; D I agree with smile lines & how the face tells a story. That nest was pretty impressive! Take care & see you & nature again ; D
LoVeD the flowing River behind you!! And the eagles and blue Herron were beautiful!! Thank you!!! I just turned 50 and love my brown hair, but I TRIED to go gray.....I have beautiful white hair but I just couldn’t do it ..... yet. But I LOVE these tips and will definitely have to get an edgy haircut when I’m finally ready to go natural. Ps. I learned about not using hair spray from one of those carts in the middle of the mall. Yes, thats right. One of those guys selling hair straighteners. Lol but he was RIGHT and have used less hair spray since then! 😊
I like your mind set, but I see a “wrinkle”!! Do all your clients have straight hair? Because everything you say applies mostly to straight hair, specially when you are talking about length and layering. I have textured frizz prone curly hair. Unless I do a Brazilian blow out, you couldn’t layer my hair using straight hair techniques. Also, many of us ladies with my type of hair, either have very long hair or very short hair. Unless you want triangular poofy mess. We need weight. Slightly below shoulder and slightly above shoulder WILL give you an undesirable triangle shape. So how about including a few notes for the curly world? Certainly, there may be curly, textured hair in Portland?!! Cheers✌🏼
Thank yo for saying you also like people who are happy with what God gave us, to believe that we EARNED the wrinkles we have, and don't have to nip-tucked sucked anything. I like to enhance what I have with make up and good cut, etc, but don't have to have botox, etc. THANK YOU for saying outlaid it is also ok!!!!! Cause it is!!! Bless you. I just found your helpful video's and I am in love. Love how you deliver your info and love the depth of explanation you give. I hope you send you a pic soon, and I'm going to get a haircut next week, but I need to watch more of your video's before I do! I have no idea what I want, so your info is SO VeRY HElPFul! I'm gonna pass you on to all my friends! Again, thank you for all you are doing.
I truly love your premise really ! I always loved the looks of mature women , but I admit that watching MY face changing is a whole other story !!! I have made up my mind to let my hair grow grey, but at the same time I fear the stray cat-lady look if you see what I mean. Thank you a lot for your video
When I turned 60, half my hair suddenly fell out. As in, I shampooed my hair and half of it fell out, almost all of it on top. As in, I was bald. Rogaine helped quite a bit, but I still have a lot less hair than I used to. So I found that cutting my hair short and layering it actually makes me look normal. I do spray my hair stiff, but if I don't, my baby-fine hair gets oily super fast just being blown around in the breeze. Within minutes. Spraying it keeps my hair from getting oily.
I really enjoyed your video. I really agree with your tips on long length (I’m growing out my grey hair and I do think I will stop just below my bra line (curly hair). I loved my hair when it was short but now I just want that sexy curly vibe with the grey and I think I just might have my stylist add some depth with the LOW lights, I feel like my hair is too white around my face and its dark in the back. I would love to see a video on styles for face shapes. Loved your bird watching I’ve got tons of birds where I live too, but I’ve never seen an eagle up close ... wow 😳
Go and get a makeover for your face. The wrong colors are making you look washed out. Nikol here on RUclips has awesome makeup tutorials and tips. She has incredible silver hair.
Where is your salon in Oregon? I live in Washington and would drive to get a consult and cut with you. You are so knowledgeable about facial structure and hair.
Love the teaching BUT GOING on the tour at the same time is just amazing!!!! I just LOVE your style.... can you come to the “Great Southern Land’ and do my hair please? Lol 😂
I really enjoy you getting out of the salon and into the wild with nature and sharing that with us. Thanks for all the amazing tips. They have given me a lot of direction as I get ready to make a hair style change. 😁
If my hair is cut in layers, it sticks out in all directions, because I have very thin and electric hair. And the few gray hair gray hair protrudes particularly stubbornly. I use ceramide, keratin and silk protein repair masks, and sometimes rich oil masks, because my hair is very dry. I use one mask as a basic mask and after I wash it away I use another, silk protein mask, it restores the shiny hair. Then I wash it carefully away again. If possible, I dry my hair without hair dryer. But then I have less volume, but the hair looks healthier. Do you have better ideas for "sticking out" hair? Oh, I another difficult problem: I have a hair swirls. So it is difficult for me to have shorter hair, I get a hole in my head. On the photo I'm 53 now I'm 63 - my hair is even worse.
At first I wasn’t sure, but I love what you’re doing outdoors. I could be a little slanted in my view since I am in Oregonian in Southern California! It was great to see Multnomah falls again and all the wildlife. I used to hike and fish. How about Shooting from some of the lakes around Mount Hood? Timothy, I’d love to see clear Lake, the upper Clackamas… Thumbs up my Portland friend
Thank you Susanne! Great ideas too!! I’ll definitely have to check those spots out. Right now it’s just a matter of trying to find places that I can get to early enough to thin out the crowd so I can film. It’s insane lately! 6:00 am on a weekday and I’m fighting for a parking spot at the trailhead!
I love all the places you select. I loved seeing the eagles and great blue heron and river. Gorgeous! Thanks for all the mistake tips. I’m a mousey blonde with strands of gray in my roots and temples. I keep my hair highlighted or balayage lightened but in the past year I can see more grays in my natural grow out. Do you have tips for blondes going gray or how to manage it so it looks good. Many thanks!
I need to get my hair done and thanks for great tips and advice . Love the magnificent Eagles. I got my son to chop my hair because I was fed up with length (and it didn’t look too bad) but need it layering.
What if you have wavy/curly hair? Is it easier to grow your hair past midback? I usually have layers in mine starting from nose height down no matter the length to prevent the triangle effect. Can it be grown longer without dragging face down if you have swirls and curls?
SUCH a great question. So, simple answer is yes. curly hair can typically handle a bit shorter layers than straight hair but its still dependent on the hair texture. Layering in the front is NOT dictated by length so that can be as short as it needs to be as long as it blends into the length well.
Ok folks, what kind of views do you want to see? Do you like River, waterfalls, lakes, valleys? Or what would you like to experience on a future adventure??

Cheers✌🏼
He's included thick, curly hair in videos, all textures.
Multnomah Falls!!! LOVE IT!! Lived in Oregon for about 14 years!
Nice! Whereabouts in Oregon did you live?
Oregon--BBRRrrrrrrr
This video is what I needed to look younger. Thanks for posting!
Again, thank you for all you are doing.
we do like all those things..that looks like it could be just up the way from us...great video..great tips..Great Eagle..take care.
I truly love your premise really ! I always loved the looks of mature women , but I admit that watching MY face changing is a whole other story !!! I have made up my mind to let my hair grow grey, but at the same time I fear the stray cat-lady look if you see what I mean. Thank you a lot for your video
I’ve been to the top of Multnomah Falls-beautiful!
Really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the environment with your topic. Great idea! Bummed that big eagle didn't swoop overhead.
Thank you! I’m so glad you like it. And I agree, it would’ve been so cool to see those Eagles fly overhead!
Thanks Justin... U r so brilliant.
Love from India.
Thanks for the tips. Nice to have a plan for when I turn gray.
You are so welcome!
Ι share your excitement about eagles and hawks. Thanks for the tips. Those were my feelings too. Oh, and yes, you're very lucky living there!
Ok, I am calling to get low lights. Will let you know how it looks!
Thank you Justin needed these tips! Very helpful! 🙏
Best video ever! Great info and great scenery! Thank you
I really enjoyed your video. Loved your bird watching I’ve got tons of birds where I live too, but I’ve never seen an eagle up close ... wow 😳
Thanks for this Justin! Love my gray, salt and pepper, I’ve cut it off and I’m loving it. My gray hair is very different than my young gal hair.
Okay I'm here for it
Ooh wow...you're amazing.. where have you been since I started turning grey... the Hike is incredible too lol
This is your best video!
I’m a stylist, do you sometimes add beach & toner to the gray hair to whiten it up more?
Great video. Would love it if you would share ways to keep gray hair bright and prevent yellow grays, without chemical color or purple shampoo.
Thank you! Great question and I'll definitely keep that as a topic for a future video. Thanks!
@@justinhickox Yay! Thank you.
My god the scenery!
It’s pretty amazing right!
Truth about giving your face more richness with lowlights! Going grey is washing me out!
Loved seeing the nature, so beautiful! Thanks!
This is great, thank you! 😊
Loving the nature in your videos. Thank you.
Amazing views! I love all your videos!
Thank you very much! I truly appreciate that!
Love the nature scenes - even if they are somewhat urban.
EXCELLENT info!!!
Many thanks!
some great advice thank you :)
I need to get my hair done and thanks for great tips and advice . Love the magnificent Eagles. I got my son to chop my hair because I was fed up with length (and it didn’t look too bad) but need it layering.
Super tips. Thank you! You’re really knowledgeable. 😊
Great video on grey...and Nature! Thank you for all your informative content :-)
Beautiful scenery!
Great video as always 👍
Thank you very much! I always appreciate the support!
Love your video 🥰
Great video x
