Also one of the best marketing campaigns I’ve ever seen. Every little detail they put into the advertising was damn near genius. Yes I’m aware they overpromised saying it was super scary and it wasn’t very scary. Idc what horror nerd super fans thought of this movie I enjoyed it. It was pretty good. Maybe not great. I liked hereditary a bit better in terms of recent occult themed horror movies. The marketing had me in the theatre on night 1. I had so many questions about wtf this movie was gonna be like and the only way to figure out was to get a ticket and go see it myself. lol speaking of marketing I actually could’ve gotten a free ticket since my bday is on the 14th 😂 didn’t know about that promo at the time haha.
Favorite things I’ve noticed after multiple views of this movie: -In Longlegs’ interrogation recording, he says, “and you’ll be there, and you’ll be there, and you’ll be there”; he is speaking directly to agent Browning, Carter, and Harker (in that order) -the opening POV is actually from the veiled doll in the passenger seat -Lee’s mom tells her “I kept all of your things” which is the name of the second chapter in the movie -Longlegs’ electric guitar in the basement. You hear it playing when Lee is opening her mailbox, and you see him buying earplugs for it at the hardware store. I adore the idea that he’s a metal head, because so much of that genre is heavily influenced by satanism -Ruby and little Lee with their matching long braids -Carrie Anne tells Lee that she’s seen her before, which couldn’t be true unless she is talking about her doll seeing Lee when it was found in the barn
Also wanted to add that the weird little flashbacks with Lee and her mom, both while they’re laying in the bed and sitting on it, are so fucking eerie. She is totally motionless, like a doll. Love you guys! Loved this reaction ❤️❤️❤️
I think what Carrie Anne Lee means by saying that she has seen Lee Harker before is that she must have seen Lee's mom. Since Lee's mom would have some resemblance to her.
@@burhanhussain8697 Yeah that’s definitely possible but I think it’s less cool lol I guess I don’t agree because I see no resemblance between the two of them - even the younger version of Lee’s mom looks nothing like the adult Lee to me
There's a theory going around that she didn't even run out of bullets, but that it was because the devil was interfering, causing her gun to continuously misfire/jam. So even if she tried to destroy the doll beforehand, the devil would stop her from doing so somehow, and she probably knew that by the end as she tells Ruby to go with her instead of dealing with it any further.
All of the satan stuff ruined the potential of this film. I’m so tired of devil/religious horror. It is NOT scary. you actually have to take stock in such things for them to freak you out. So as soon as “satan” was brought into it immediately threw me out of the film. Took a GREAT killer chase film to a stupid religious horror. Would’ve been SO much better without that nonsense. I wanted a realistic portrayal not religious hobnob.
i thought when her mother destroyed her doll it ended the connected between her and the devil? she also said “you’re free now too my girl” or something like that. i thought that after that point the devil no longer had jurisdiction over her.
@@CZNXVIER I feel like it makes a little more sense that the black mist inside the ball is more important than the metal casing itself. So, when the devilish vapor is released, that toxicity is free, like a miasma - to infect others, to be completely unrelenting. It’s no longer just inside Lee, similarly to how it’s no longer just inside Longlegs. It’s a little bit of everywhere now
@@MBG.426Religious horror, when done right, is fantastic: The Exorcist, The Omen, Exorcist 3, Frailty… I thought adding the demonic element to the plot made Longlegs stand out from other generic serial killer movies.
I get the feeling that her mom asked her if shes still saying her prayers, because she was actually checking that she still doesn't.. like a backwards meaning to that question
Same man it’s super disturbing imo. Take away all the devil shit and it’s still horrifying to think of home invasions and super graphic and violent family murders which those happen all the time
Longlegs likes to mimic cuckoo because the cuckoo bird lays their eggs in other bird's nest. When the baby is born, it would kick other eggs to the ground. This represents that he can kill many families without being at the scene by bringing the devil doll into the house and the demon did the rest.
........Definitely got "Silence of the Lambs" vibes from this - it was shot beautifully and Nicholas Cage was truly creepy! This movie wasn't AT ALL what I expected, but that's why I ended up loving it!
This movie was amazing. The opening scene was probably the most effective and terrifying scene that managed to scare me pretty bad. Nicolas Cage did so amazing as long legs.
I thought that Harker didn't shoot the doll because if she did, Ruby would remember everything. Her mom said that the doll told her where to look. When Mom shot Harker's doll, she remembered everything. As she was driving to try and save Agent Carter's family, she's screaming because she can remember everything that happened when Longlegs came to her house. And I thought that in the end, Harker didn't shoot the doll to spare Ruby from the trauma. Just a thought.
The last family dying was the last part of the triangle which should mean that it's over. When the mom shot the doll then Lee was free from the spell. There were several sightings of the devil throughout the movie. You should watch it again and find them! I LOVE this movie! Although I did find the hype was what helped and harmed the film. Definitely got the attention but overhyped it as being "the scariest movie ever" which it isn't and made some disappointed. And I feel the more blind you are to this film and the less expectation you have for what it is "supposed" to be the more you'll enjoy it. I really liked how the screen had so much in it making us kind of look for something or expect that something was going to happen. A great way to shoot the film and make us on edge the entire time!
See imo the hype was a bigger help than harm. Yes they over sold it as the scariest movie ever etc etc. literally any horror movie that has a decent advertising budget puts that statement out. Remember all the paranormal activity adds? lol they showed audience reactions and critic reviews and of course said it was the scariest since the exorcist. Idk why horror movie nerds went so hard against this movie? Maybe because it was absent of cheap jump scares like the conjuring series and it wasn’t just another torture porn movie that only sets out to be controversial and cause disgust in the audience. Imo it was damn good! Not the best I’ve seen but sure I’d say it’s probably the best horror I’ve seen in the last year or two. Cinematography was very good. Story was fairly original combining aspects of other serial killer and occult movies. Cage was very creepy and disturbing as the villain. I would’ve liked to see a bit more from him but they also probably did it for a reason. He’s not very intimidating on an individual level as he’s simply just doing the work for the devil and the husbands are the ones committing the murders.
Osgood Perkins did a *wonderful* job and I think his father would be proud. His father, Anthony Perkins, played Norman Bates in the 1960 movie Psycho and I know you guys watched Scream and there's a quote that Billy spoke that was from that movie "We all go a little mad sometimes".
I love that there could be a sequel because, in the end, when Lee tries to shoot the doll, her gun doesn't fier, but not because it's out of bullets if ypu look her gun is a revolver wich holds 6 bullets she only used 3, 1 on her mom 2 on her partner leaving 3 more and when she go's to shoot the doll she pulls the trigger 3 more and nothing happened and it's near impossible for someone to pull the trigger and every round be empty or blanks showing she can't stop it so the little girl is still connected to the doll just like lee was before her mom shot the doll so maybe the little girl will not remember and be just like lee, connected to long legs.
I really adore this movie and quickly became fascinated with it. The visuals and score is my favorite part; The cinematography and atmosphere was so creepy and disturbing yet enticing. The very end lost me a bit, but overall it was so good! The opening and Polaroid jumpscare really got me; Especially the Polaroid one. I got scared and then taken aback by how scared I got 😭
When i see the car scene (UNMAKE MEEEEE!!!) the only thing comes to my mind is the director saying "Okey Nic, do your thing". And that's how another iconic scene of The Cage was born😅.
Happy this movie took a chance and pulled a 180 in the final 1/3(ish). I understand why people aren’t fans but I bought into it and enjoyed every minute.
I liked it a lot. Like i have all the movies dire ted by Oz Perk8ns. I saw this one in the thester, where it belong. The style of this movie harks back to the 1970s decade and to the 1990s movies that were inspired by the 70s. So good..
I think she doesn’t shoot the doll because they say the dolls made the girls forget about what was happening and when lee’s mom shoots it she remembers everything, so if she shoots the doll the little girl would become conscious of what happened and most likely be traumatized after seeing all the dead people especially her parents. So Lee was trying to spare her that memory?
35:00 That's a serial killer! What the hell are you doing, fed? Get your damn gun out! I've never been a cop, never would be, I hate the US government, and even I know that no fed alive would keep his gun holstered arresting someone like that. I mean a lot of cops pull their guns on innocent people when they raise their voice slightly or misunderstand an instruction. I suspect the director just wanted that close up, wide angled shot of the guy pointing his finger, but sacrificing believability just to get the shot you want is definitely not the way to go if you ask me.
Was waiting for yall to watch this. After seeing this I thought it was a bit overhyped with people comparing to silence of the lambs & how scary it was. Great movie, & I do enjoy it. I think the satanic stuff just kinda pushed me back a little cause I didn’t want any supernatural stuff. I thought it was going to be just lee hunting down longlegs.
The fbi guy said at the beginning that she is half psychic and she worked out where the doll was by inviestigating the case that lead to the symbol and doll not cause she has powers
I did not think the ending was rushed there was not anymore to it her birthday and the cops daughters birthday were the last ones and they did not show us there were any more cult members maybe the devil stopped the gun from firing l mean waa there only 3 bullets in that type of gun cause l think she only used 3 bullets
Does anyone know why carrie anne talks the way she talks, followed by the main fbi guy. They use alot of s's at the end of words that dont need it. Almost pluralising the words
Most disappointing movie of the year. First about 2/3s are good. As soon as the devil and the dolls become a focus it comes to shit. Such a good premise thrown out for dumb shit that isn’t scary in my opinion. He was so much scarier and realistic when I perceived him as an “average” killer. Once he became some random with an obsession with the devil it became immediately stupid. I’m sorry I just haven’t been this disappointed by a film in a long time. So mediocre when it could’ve been great. Alas it’s all personal perception.
i kinda agree. the satanic aspect could have worked and made longlegs a very scary killer, but adding the supernatural element ruined it for me. completely took away the interesting and scary vibe of longlegs as a character and focusing on "the devil" instead, such a waste
You obviously haven’t seen any of the directors other films, literally all of them have an occult/supernatural twist to it and all exist in the same universe

One of the highest grossing horror movies ever made, $101 million dollars against a $10 million dollar budget.
It was less than 10 million. It made it all back on opening night!

Apparently there really is a 24 minute footage of Nic Cage as Longlegs in interrigation. 😂
Nicolas Cage is just being he’s self again 😂😂
