What a treasure! Dusty of course and that this performance exists. Such a well known and loved song..... But WOW! Dusty makes it 💯 percent her own....and blows away all other versions. THIS, soulful, slow tempo, steamy rendition brings a feeling of true reflection and emotion to this song. It goes from being a casual piece about escaping, to a deeply felt emotional journey. Dusty takes you to rooftops you never knew existed. This woman is simply PHENOMENAL.

This makes me think of her singing "IF" at the London Palladium concert in the early 70's-72 I think. Another gentle lovely performance, a shame there appears to be no recording of her singing this song. ( I remember flirting with 3 audience members in the foyer, Jackie Trent, Barbara Windsor and Marion Ryan (mother of Paul & Barry and a star in the 50's and early '60's) > Ms Trent was aloof and dowdy, but Barbara And Marion were in sparkling form and Marion was charming and flirtatious back-exceptionally so.

UP ON THE ROOF Sung by Dusty Springfield on the Rolf Harris Show 1971 July 23 When this old world starts getting you down And people are much too much for me to face I get away from the hustling crowd And all my cares just fade right into space On the roof It's peaceful as can be And there the world below Can't bother me Let me tell you now When I get home feeling tired and beat I go up where the air is fresh and sweet I climb way up to the top of the stairs And all that rat-race noise Down on the street On the roof The only place I know Where you just have to wish to make it so O-Oh, let’s go Up on the roof Oo-ooh, oo-oo, h-hmm Yeah, come, baby At night the stars put on a show for free And darling, you can share it all with me Come on, let’s go Keep a-telling you Right slap there in the middle of town I've found a paradise that's trouble-free So if this world starts getting you down There’s room enough for two up on the roof Up on the roof Everything is all right Up on the roof Oh, come on, baby Up on, up on the roof Up on the roof Songwriters: Carole King / Gerry Goffin
THE best version of this song.............gorgeous!
the most beautiful rendition of this song! PERFECTION
Dusty and Carole King - an irresistible combination.
Absolutely
Absolutely sublime cover of such a well known tune, Dusty was one soulful girl.....
The truest interpretation of this song. It does not even need accompaniment.
Very true - she was at her best interpreting the wonderful Carole King.
Yes..thank you 💖
The tempo slowed down is genius. The mood is different from escapism to loving🙂well done Dusty always a legend

She's been gone 25 years, yet I just discovered her. I remember hearing her most famous hits when I was a teen. She was exquisite.
Absolutely sublime rendition of this song. Miss Dusty so very much. So glad to have this to listen to now.

True Dusty , pure talent!!
I was there, laying on the floor in our front room in 1971 AND I've never forgotten Dusty singing this on her TV show. Lovely to hear it again!
Me too
I never knew she recorded this song. Blissful as ever.
It's so beautiful in it's sadness. I'd be a liar if I said this never made me cry

Beautiful.
Just love this version. Thanks for sharing it.
Dusty's greatest gift she could interpret and rearrange any song and make it her own.
👏
Beautiful
This quiet version of this song - only Dusty... Love her.
Such a shame Dusty never recorded this.
ALWAYS GREAT SONG ONE OF MY FAVORITS
Dusty , & Ronnie Spector vocals, send me into orbit. Pure heaven.
She sings 'honour roof' mid way like the backing vocals do on The Drifters version.
Do love this so must.... I saw it first time around ...old am I... still love it to bits and pieces xxx fantastic 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎵🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶🎵🎼☘💚☘
Absoutely peerless - as usual.
❤️
Grand version of a King/Goffin original.
J Decker, I couldnt agree more.
this is the Dusty I remember, the one that hadn't yet lived in the U.S. and fell into to drugs and alcohol, so beautiful so amazing
Red hair and green eyes is the rarest combination in the world
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
should have stayed home, forget USA...her people loved her......
Some of us Americans loved her too. I was a little girl and loved her the first time I heard her in the 60s.
Is this from the BBC July 23rd ot Tom Rolf Show, January 2? This is the same video as another on here that says the latter.
Rolf Harris show, that is.
I don't want to know what the colour was before!
It's a good thing for the Temptations that they sung this first. Dusty would've walked away with the honors.
The Temptations? I think it was a hit for The Drifters....?
@@JKMMOC You're correct. I apologize.
UP ON THE ROOF
Sung by Dusty Springfield
on the Rolf Harris Show 1971 July 23
When this old world starts getting you down
And people are much too much for me to face
I get away from the hustling crowd
And all my cares just fade right into space
On the roof
It's peaceful as can be
And there the world below
Can't bother me
Let me tell you now
When I get home feeling tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all that rat-race noise
Down on the street
On the roof
The only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
O-Oh, let’s go
Up on the roof
Oo-ooh, oo-oo, h-hmm
Yeah, come, baby
At night the stars put on a show for free
And darling, you can share it all with me
Come on, let’s go
Keep a-telling you
Right slap there in the middle of town
I've found a paradise that's trouble-free
So if this world starts getting you down
There’s room enough for two up on the roof
Up on the roof
Everything is all right
Up on the roof
Oh, come on, baby
Up on, up on the roof
Up on the roof
Songwriters: Carole King / Gerry Goffin
Is there a large video compilation of songs she sang like this never appeared on record.
Hello, This version is on a CD of rarities called Heart & Soul which i have. 💜
RIP Kenny Lynch. I wonder what he made of this treatment of his classic. I love it!
It was alive?
Still think Kenny Lynch is far the best version of this song 🎶🎼🎼🎼🎵🇬🇧
