I can almost guarantee that by the end of the show it'll be in your top ten. Maybe even top five. Truly a masterpiece.

And yes. Each bending style is based on actual martial arts.
Firebending is northern shaolin kung fu
    Waterbending is Tai Chi
Earthbending is hung Gar kung fu
And airbending is baguazang, or "circle walking".

@@benspillerbuckle up, friend. You're in for a wild ride. ATLA may just be the single greatest animated series in Western animation.

The Water Tribes are inspired by the Inuit and Yupik cultures of the Arctic. The Earth Kingdom is inspired by China. The Fire Nation is inspired by imperial Japan. The Air Nomads are inspired by Tibetan Buddhism.

Ooh, like how their all based off these different cultures can’t wait to see them all since we’ve really only seen the water village and a ship from the Fire nation

Most animals in this world are hybrids. You have seen otter-penguins, and Appa is a manatee-bison hybrid. There will be many more.
Each bending style is directly inspired by a real-world martial art.
    Waterbending - Tai Chi
Firebending - Northern Shaolin Kung Fu
    Earthbending - Hung Gar
    Airbending - Baghuazhang
This is perhaps the greatest animated series in history. It starts off light-hearted and kid-oriented, yet touches on serious topics like war, genocide, murder, family tragedy, honor, and so much more. Book 1 is very episodic and does a lot of world building and character development. Books 2 and 3 really ramp up the storytelling and plot. The show is perfectly paced, the lore doled out in timely and exquisitely-measured doses. Almost all of your inevitable questions have been anticipated and will be answered by the writers in due time.
    Welcome to excellence!

I love all this so much! Love that the different bending's are all real-world matial arts as now i'm just impressed at the animation and the effort that woulg have gone into makeing all that accurate.
Thanks for the brief overview of the show, I cannot wait to get futher into this! Already I'm loving how their setting up the world and how their dealing with tone so all that's to come sounds amazing!!

@@benspiller Much love and care went into this show. The animators attended martial arts classes so they could not only see, but experience the nuances of each style, which is why the animation of the fight scenes are SO GOOD. You'll also see Sifu Kisu listed in the credits as a consultant.

Also, the arrow tattoos signify that Aang is a master airbender

Dave Filoni, of Clone Wars fame, is responsible for directing this and a few other episodes in this season and the next.

Yep. And Aang's bison Appa is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who voiced all the clones, and the clone Appo was given an arrow on his helmet as a nod to this (and the similarly sounding names, or was he given the name as a reference?).

Oh cool, can’t wait to see what this show has in store now cause Clone Wars is amazing so very happy to hear someone who made something of that quality worked on this too.
