    I've been watching many videos on how to make such a flip top bench. Many are very good but usually there is some aspect that I feel is a more complicated than necessary especially for a beginner woodworker like me. This one, however, is perfectly pitched at my level. This is the one one that I plan to build very soon after finishing off another project. I will enjoy making this. Thank you for sharing.

    Sorry me again haha. Im new to pocket hole joinery and have the UJK pocket hole jig. At 3:07 it shows on your jig max thickness off 38mm. Well my 2x4s are 45mm thick as I assume yours are pretty much too. My UJK jig allows for max thickness off 36mm. I joined two pieces of scrap 2x4 together to test and it worked fine but didnt seem the strongest hold and was using the longest screws I had in the trade pack I got witht the jig. My question is what are the cons of using thicker material than what it states it can handle and how do you know what length screw to use. Thanks and hope to hear back from you. Cheers and great vids 😃👍

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Год назад +2

      I had the Longer screws for this I think 60mm buy can't remember. You can add wood glue for additional strength. But as you can see my workbench is few years old, travelled from UK to Poland and its holding just fine on the screws only.

    • @robcheetham4370
      @robcheetham4370 Год назад +1

       @Casual DIY Thanks for the reply. Yes i used 60mm too so even though they didnt exit the piece dead centre they probably fo further in to make a sufficiant hold. I will use glue where I can but like you I need to beable to take it apart to a degree incase I move it. Thanks for the info.
      One more thing have you a link to them clamping/positioning squares you used to make sure everything was fastened together square. Any reccomendations? Thanks

    Nice bench. You probably used a lot of bits you had lying around in your workshop but What was/would be the approximate cost? Looking forward to the completion videos.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  5 лет назад

      So far the cost is for 5 times 2x4s and 4 studs plus one sheet of plywood and obviously some screws. The price will depend on where you live.

      @@CasualDIY Thanks very much for the quick reply. I have been wanting to build a flip top mitre saw bench for a while now an this is the best video ive found on youtube so far and I like the design especially the adjusting plates to get the top perfectly level. Ill be building mine longer resulting in two comparements either side of the mitre saw compartment and have 12 legs instead of 8. Im going to use sketchup to design it first. So thankyou for more than a great starting point towards my goal. Youve got yourself another subscriber 😀. Thanks again.

      DAVID Duxbury I think a lot of people don’t read the title of the channel, and think everyone needs to build a split Roubo bench with a leg vice etc to have any credibility. I don't have either the room or the physical ability to make any such bench and though I enjoy the videos showing those builds Tomazs's makes much more sense to me. I think his entire approach is much more in line with the vast majority of us working in a small space with tools from the less expensive side of the market. I think he is far more inspiring than any £100k plus shop as he is very real to me...and who can knock his infectious enthusiasm and honesty?
