A former Marine friend of mine was a breacher and he loved the Benelli, it was said they weren't supposed to shoot people with the breaching rounds, but you would be surprised how many doors wore sandals and moved around..... and the P90 for sure
My favorite lore about the M1014 is that when the panel of Marines that were feilding this, they couldn't give it the designation of "M4" because that would confuse too many Marines. When the question of "what do we call this?" came up, someone just looked at their watch and the time was 10:14am. No one apposed, and the shotgun was dubbed the M1014.
Mmh, we called it the M4 shotgun or the bennelli or M4 for the rifle, boom stick was acceptable for the shotgun, the rifle was referred to as a gat piece or just a gat. No one ever got confused strangely enough when we were breaching doors and windows.
I carried a Benelli with my M16 in Iraq (our corpsmen were only issued Benellis for some reason so we gave them some of our spare M16s and I was the only one trained in a Benelli so they gave it to me). Our breacher had a Mossberg and everyone hated the Benelli because it just had a shell release lever instead of that classic pump-action. One time while in country we got a new shipment of ammo and took all the old rounds to the range to get some practice in. Once we got to the shotguns, everyone cheered as the Mossberg went off with the classic *bang* *rack* *bang.* I loaded up the Benelli and they laughed when I hit the shell release lever. Then I unloaded it as quickly as I accurately could *bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang.* They didn't laugh at it any more.
Had a scoutmaster who was a marine. He was the one who had a breaching shotgun and would lead CQB on raids. He never talked about his time in the service too often, but we got him to talk about it once for about 25 seconds. He explained in great detail about how he was posted up on a corner during a raid when a "Haji" came barreling around it with a gun pointed at him. He told us all about how this Arab guy caught every pellet from his shotgun with his face. We all thought it was badass. He was also a former Drill Sergeant. Whipped us little shits into shape.

Our Scout troop is led by a retired Army Colonel. West Point grad and tanker from Desert Storm I. Handle bar mustache and pants tucked into his army boots at all times... yet he's the biggest teddy bear and revered by the boys. But behind the friendly exterior is a spine of steel. Until then, and only then, we chamber a shell and, time and situation permitting, we replace that shell by adding one to the mag and approaching full up with 8 total. If hit, they will be right there and the other shells still won't be needed but will be there in reserve? @@d7dun1010 Firstly, ghost loading the carrier is a procedure specifically outlined in the USMC manual for the M1014, so I wouldn't agree with calling it a parlor trick. Secondly, carrying a weapon without a round in the chamber is a habit that you will not find much support on, especially in this comment section. An empty chamber can get you killed.

Well, sorry to give you the bad news... There's only one AA-12 in the country, all the others were seized by the ATF and destroyed. The guy producing them didn't have a licence to manufacture destructive devices. The only one left is semi-auto and is in the hand of a gun company trying to improve on the design and re-market it.
My understanding is that the purpose of the collapsing stock is for use over body armor. Depending on your body and the kit you use (keep in mind this is an older gun designed when everyone only had high bulky shitty IBAs and armor like that) you may need to shorten the stock to get it on top of a plate or just the Kevlar portion.
This reminds me of how the early colonists in Virginia modified their breastplates with iron plates at their right shoulder/chest so they could shoulder muskets. Can’t do that wearing a regular breastplate. Neat how recurring problems appear time and time again through history. Not a problem in Europe, though - muskets could pierce breastplates pretty reliably and there wouldn’t be much need to wear armour, even pikemen would discard most of their armour in the English Civil War. But in the Americas, you’re going up against people armed with bows and close quarters weapons in skirmish settings, and armour is far more relevant for normal infantry again! Same with halberds/billhooks and longbows, the English sent a lot of their old weapons with their early colonists since the warfare in the colonies suited older weapons!
First time I shot a Benelli M4 I was blown away by how smooth the operation on that unit is! Seriously a dream shotgun, maybe my father in law will pass his down to me some day 🙏🏼
My father in law left his gun collection to my daughter, who is 9. She now owns more guns than I do, including 3 Browning sweet sixteen autoloaders. To get around to the point, in my opinion, the Browning "Sweet 16" 16 gauges are the smoothest and nicest shooting automatics. I like the Italians, but they seem cheap next to the Browning.

As a gun, it's super cool. But I also just look at it and (to me at least) I'm just in awe of how much of a beautiful gun it is. It's smooth, extendable, and easy to use. Italy made an amazing thing when they built this.
A freaking Men... they rush to a video just to post it... and then proceed to not even watch the video or add anything worth a discussion. Like why? Why?!?!
By military standards it's supposed to only be used for breaching doors, but as Zach Hazzard said the soldiers will tell you you'd be surprised how many doors were 6ft wearing beards and sandles.
The geneva convention called shotguns not a warcrime, and the marines have been trying to change that ever since. Surprisingly they still haven't succeeded, which is kind of impressive when you look at the sheer amount of shit gets dished out with the M4. EDIT: Also RoE (Rules of Engagement) are more guidelines than actual rules. _And sometimes you just don't mention RoE but that's a different discussion entirely._
@@Volvith the marines aren’t trying to change it, they’re simply playing with the rules they’re given. Shotguns aren’t a warcrime, so why not kill a te- I mean, breach a door with it?
@caesarsalad1170 Newer cod isn't so bad with shotguns, in MW2 I reckon the shotguns can go to about 40 yards with a choke atleast. You can even use slugs and go VERY far.
@@Eternapalms Cod series have always represented shotguns as joke. It was moder warfare 2 with that 1887 lever shotgun which broke those rules a momentarily when it actually had more realistic range and effect. I just wanted to thank you for getting me interested with AK's, and all types of guns, as well as helping me learn about the inner workings on them (and stupid ATF laws). Anyways, I wish you the best, thanks again for everything, and keep making banger content!

Super shotgun. Very expensive but super lite-weight and carries a lot of ammo. I couldn't believe how thin the barrel walls are. Good episode Brandon for a great shotgun! BTW, The P-38 and the M92 are incredibly similar :)
So with you being the major inspiration to sign up for the SDI gunsmithing program I think it's really funny that I noticed something a little different about this video before you announced your new main partnership. I kept feeling like I was watching someone do a detailed-strip video for an SDI assignment, with you showing in detail how the safety works this time, and explicitly expressing and then showing that it is cleared of ammo. I take it part of their sponsorship is to add that in there? That's the first requirement for all of my assignments lol. Also, I assume I'll be out with my certificate before then, but I really hope that these videos can be included in the curriculum for future students learning about these firearms action systems. You make great educational content and your passion really shows when discussing how they work and assemble.
Without a single doubting atom in my being, I can confidently say that I infact, would love to see Brandon rocking a full auto FN P90 and pair it up with the FN 5.7, just the way it was designed.
I was an 0351 in the 1990s that got recalled in 2003. I was pissed to learn that I was going to be an MP on my temporary return to duty. Then I was issued, and qualified on, the M1014. I was still pissed, but now I was pissed with a fantastic shotgun. It's a great weapon. If you can afford one, get one.
One of the things I appreciate about your vids is it has this "Let me show you my cool new toy" kinda vibe like when we was kids. In stark contrast to some other channels where you really start getting a sale's man vibe after a while. Also the greek joke with the italian setup caught me off guard in the best way lol!! keep them coming dude!
This shotgun is an absolute pleasure to shoot. I had the opportunity once, but I fondly remember it. I still want one all these years later. The recoil mitigation really is as good as advertised; I loaded it with 2 rounds of birdshot, 2 rounds of buckshot, and 2 slugs, firing them in succession. Even the slugs were comfortable to shoot and remained easy to control. The engineering on this thing is magnificently done. You really can literally spend all day firing this thing and not have your shoulder hurt too bad the next day as opposed to, say, a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500 Field. In my opinion it's definitely worth the premium you pay for it when compared to less expensive options if you're in the market for a shotgun.

For those interested in purchasing the Benelli M4 or M1014: know there are a few differences between the two while still being the same shotgun at their core. So far, as I have seen the differences are: The M4 comes with threaded barrel for internal chokes, M1014 has fixed choke. American flag on the receiver: As Brandon mentions in the video, the M1014 has a small American flag next to the action release button but the M4 simply says "m4". Lastly the stock: The M1014 come with the collapsing stock but without a 3 position receiver extension; the M4 comes with a fixed stock but has a 3 position extension. The two models as offered from the factory are otherwise identical. If anyone knows more about the history, use or tech specs of the Benelli m-series shotguns, please reply.
love you videos man, me adn a friend came up with something similar with the "reply all" so we theorised that if a standard single bullet can have your name on it, a shotgun is addressed "to whom it may concern" and things like GLs are "reply all"
I bought an M1014 and went through the same headache to properly convert it to its full glory! I used to have a Scalarworks RMR mount on it that replaced the pic rail, but I decided that after all the time and expense I put into making it military configuration, I put the pic rail back on it and transferred the Scalarworks to my M2.
I love the Benelli M4, and I already did something nasty when I got mine, was really sick, spiting into a small trash can, had a bad cough and on Thanksgiving 2022 drove to a store that had the one I wanted for a fair price. I also spent $1,999 on it but it was all worth it. Felt terrible but did not want to risk not getting one and it was the last one they had, they still have not gotten more of that specific one in as of Feb. 2023.
Hey Brandon. Love the channel and the firearm break downs love learning about them all. But being a non American and non firearm owner I know very little about ammo would you mind doing ammo break down one day. Eg shotgun shells and their variations, variations on pistol and ar rounds and any special mentions but why each round has its use/existence. Maybe even go into how each tip round actually works. Like why some pierce armor vs open up vs explode etc etc.
took me two years to finally get mine, as anyplace that carried them sold them literally as they came in the door. my benelli M3 carried me until that point- which might be a good one to review in the future.
I carried one for years as law enforcement. AWESOME shotgun! The department went away from personally owned weapons, so They gave me a short 870, then a Benelli M2. The M1014 had much less recoil, but was also heavier. Fortunately, I never shoot any of them on duty. 🤞
FNP90 easy; such an iconic and strange firearm that it always has a recognizable presence. Also I've heard for most of my life that 5.7 isn't the best of calibers and often over-penetrates the "bad guys", so it would be interesting to hear your take on it as well. Ironically, dunno what else would be major film/tv reference other than the Stargate tv series. #AKGNotificationSquad
Oooooeee! I can feel the Benelli in my hands just watching the video. Got to carry one nearly every day for about six months. The button to send the bolt home was incredibly satisfying, and semi-auto was just hilarious power. That said, I preferred the M870 slightly more and carried it for much longer. Cycling a pump-action just had that extra intimidation factor. Years later, the first time I blindly equipped one in Tarkov and went ADS I recognized it just from the bead. I do miss them. They absolutely fuck.
As a muni LEO the dept issued M4s with the 14" bbl, fixed pistol grip stock and tactical fore ends with surefire lights in each patrol as well as G36s in each car.
I bought one of these recently. I wanted to put the collapsible stock on it, but the OEM ones aren’t cheap! It’s a beautiful shotgun though. I can’t think of a single thing wrong with it
The coolest shot gun ever they never let it out of our armory and the one time it did come out the eotech refused to stay sighted with it. Got to use it plenty during BSG school.
I ended up with a m4 over a 1301. The at least $500 extra and the more then a lb in added weight didn't discourage me. I'm susceptible to influence from my favorite media. Just got a Marlin SBL too, so my latest two firearms both were in the movie Wind River. Keep Jeremy Renner in your prayers everyone. He only lives a few miles from me and is as good a dude you'll find in that buisness. That snowplow nearly killed him and he'll never be the same.
I'd like to see the damage if the head and shoulders were attached to a 180 lbs bag of whatever.....even though the velocity is high, the impact damage is mitigated by the ability for it to move so easily. I suspect the damage would be much greater.
By the way,I believe the M1014 has a slightly thicker barrel and a non removable choke tube. Funny thing too is I have a Remington Versa Max Tactical 22.5" barrel and it has the same ARGO two piston gas system as the M4.
Is the fireball coming out of the ejection port normal for this gun? Not something I see happen often on other weapons. Or just freak framrate capture and it's more common than I thought?

My understanding is that the purpose of the collapsing stock is for use over body armor. Depending on your body and the kit you use (keep in mind this is an older gun designed when everyone only had high bulky shitty IBAs and armor like that) you may need to shorten the stock to get it on top of a plate or just the Kevlar portion.
Quite helpful in hazmat gear on top of armor too. It’s a hazop’s wet dream in shotgun form
Dropping 3 inches can be useful for storage and carry, too.

Semi-auto shotguns tend to do that afaik
That’s just Semi Auto shotguns and shotgun shells
My Hump back on a tube dump does that a bit too (btw the OG too the ol Beneli is definitely better imo lol cause The Saint of gunsmiths made it)
@@lt_bacon205 gotcha, I don't have any personal experience with semi auto shotguns myself. Just after Scott's accident stuff like that just appears more alarming now. Glad to see it's normal
@@betafishjeremy7454 I get ya but yeah its just how semi auto shotguns are as sometimes its being ejected while just a touch of pouder is still burning so yeah thats how you get that effect
finally picked up the adjustable stock for mines, the aesthetic is complete.
If its a full auto P90, I definitely wanna see that! But I understand the disgust of progressive triggers, especially on bullpups #akgnotificationsquad
I just realized the every gun that I know has a progressive trigger is also a bullpup
