    Thomas, I can tell just by watching your vids what a good guy you are, but some people unfortunately need to heed the old saying, “if ya don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything”. I personally find all of your videos great, partly in due to the fact that I can tell the kindness behind them and your passion for HiFi seems never ending.

    Thomas, love your system tours. I would never criticise another man’s sound system, nor would I expect him to criticise mine. I built my system to suit my listening preference with in the constraints of my budget and listening environment as do I suspect most enthusiasts, not to appease others. Neither would I criticise the car a person chooses to drive. It is interesting and educational to see the various combinations of systems people arrive at. I’m in the process of seriously upgrading my current set up and look to everywhere and anywhere for ideas. Keep up the good work Thomas.

      Exactly. I do have a budget and then try to build the best that I can that caters to my preferences within that budget. Sky is the limit in this hobby. However I also try to advise people in system selection as I've learned a lot from my researches and experiences.

    • @howardskeivys4184

      cyberathlete that’s exactly why I watch channels like this. I’ve been an enthusiast since the eighties. Made a lot of mistakes and bad decisions and learned a lot through experience and I’m still learning, still on that journey, but the goalposts keep moving. Then, there’s the the wife factor! ‘You’re not putting them in our living room. Theyte too big, too ugly and will dominate my space’! Etc.

      Unfortunately, there is a lot of snobbery in this industry! I don’t care for snobs, it’s unnecessary! I’m an I’m an enthusiast, I’ve built my component system over many, many years. A friend of mine has a tiny studio flat. She has an inexpensive, all in one, Pioneer system and do you know hat? It sounds lovely. I have a little desktop Bose active system at work. I love it!

Plus it's a nice looking unit as well which has a higher WAF than your typical HiFi receiver design. Here's a POV picture for the setting. I realize how much better his system is when he wants to get rid of the floor bass vibrations.

    • @cyberathlete
      @cyberathlete 3 года назад

      If I was on the ground floor (where I also have a system), i have no need for the isolation pads. I have subs and large floorstanders that can output a lot of bass but they bass energy is not lost in the floor. As I am on the second floor with hardwood, the floor picked up some bass energy as the sub is downward firing. By adding isolation pads it helped a lot. So isolation pads are a case by case basis, for some there will be immediate and perceivable difference and they will be believers of it, for others they may not notice much and dismiss them as another snake oil product. I am one of the most skeptical people and I honestly don't like a lot about the audiophile BS that goes around, but in my situation these pads helped out.

I don't mind it if people flame my choice of pre-amp and amp and lack of room treatments etc but I don't care. I will be posting a more detailed video on my channel about my living room setup and also share a playlist on Amazon HD where every track sounds stunning on these. And Polk Audio doesn't get enough credit but their LSiM and now the Legend, lines are something else. I haven't heard the Legend yet but will definitely want to check them out at Axpona whenever that happens this year

    What this guy did in the living room with the inside and outside walls of his b&W, more people need to do. It makes the sound much more natural and bass rich. I also mention this in one of my videos. When you do not have this tiny detail in place, the sound just gets pumped in the room and creates bass suckout effect, HIFI shows can learn from this!

    • @cyberathlete
      @cyberathlete 4 года назад

      Thanks dude! LOL Could you clarify a little on the inside and outside walls of my B&W :)

    • @RealHIFIHelp
      @RealHIFIHelp 4 года назад +1

      The furniture you have on the inside of your speakers isolate the sound waves so your middle range/treble/bass have to work a lot less. It creates the illusion that the speaker is really bigger and better, whereas if you have a relatively small speaker in a big room, typically what happens is that the speaker sounds more bright/harsh/hifi/less integrated and natural. Same with the subs or whatever they are outside the speakers.
      That is also why a lot of demo rooms at stores and shows are so cold and HIFI, it's small things like this and your carpet and furniture that can make most equipment sound pretty good.
      If you have audio note and vandersteen and some few other brands, it is even more crucial that this is done, or else it totally destroys the sound.
      Also having stuff like wooden chairs in a room gives the sound wave the proper lag for it to sound more natural.

    • @cyberathlete
      @cyberathlete 4 года назад +1

      @@RealHIFIHelp I ended up unintentionally setting it up the way it is but you're right. The boundaries on 3 sides of the tower speakers act as a sort of an enclosed space which especially help with the bass response. The speakers do fill up the room without sounding lean or small. They have a very robust sound. Extremely robust. Thank you! This was a great observation and now this setting I will keep in mind for future setups especially when it comes to smaller speakers

    A McIntosh integrated amp would pair very with the B&W. 🤤

    • @cyberathlete
      @cyberathlete 3 года назад

      They do but they're also very expensive. Plus I prefer crossing over subs and speakers and McIntosh doesn't do that as far as I know. The Parasound P6 has that feature plus tone controls and it's also a smooth sounding pre-amp. I'm happy with it. Will the McIntosh sound/pair better with the B&W? It will and I've heard that combo many times at every dealer and audio show. But if I'm looking to spend $3500+ on that kind of amp then I would prefer to get bigger speakers that don't need a sub and run full range like that. Maybe one day in the future.

    Hi, I ❤️ Your passion for the hobby. As a Long time BW owner & 30 year nutty audiophile I can tell you you are only hearing about 30% of what those speakers can deliver. Move that glass table, it’s killing your imaging. The glass fireplace in between them isn’t doing them any favors. Pull them out from the wall & experiment with toe in. Room treatments will help. The Rotel is decent and it’s hi current but it’s kinda like running a Corvette on 2 cylinders. A good tube pre & a higher quality amp with more power is what those speakers crave to sound their best. Hopping my criticism was positive & constructive 😊

    • @cyberathlete

      Hi bbarnell! I don't disagree with you and I should have mentioned it in my video that the living room has to be a compromise between what I can have and how I can use it. I would rather at the very least have something I want and use it to the best I can in accordance with how the room should remain according to my wife. Life and marriage are about compromise. She let's me fulfill my desires as long as I don't step on her toes either :) Which means the living room should still look like a living room.
      I'll look into other amp options when the time is right.
      And when I do have a dedicated music room in the next place, there won't be a table or a fireplace or anything in between the setup and myself. Just room treatments and me.

    All audio equipment is good, excellently described and its true for rubber insulation under the speakers (especially with wooden floors), but if itself work made iven better sound it would be around the B&W speakers: as the first acoustic isolation of the room with bass absorbers in the corners and reflectors / diffusers on the walls. Replacing the pre-amp and amp with the higher end amps: pass, classe, accuphase ... For such high quality speakers you don't need to use subwoofers when listening music seriously, because even the best subw have big errors in phase, time delay, layout, freq. aligners, and volume levels error based on position in the room and listener position.

    • @cyberathlete
      @cyberathlete 4 года назад +1

      In all honesty I feel no lag or sync or timing issues in any song between speakers and subs. It sounds cohesive, timing is fine, I don't feel the songs I've been listening to all my life sound any different. They sound the best I've heard with these speakers and subs but my ears can not pick out any thing out of sync or different. Just better.
      At low volumes especially is where subs make the biggest difference. You can still 'feel' the bass at low volumes only because of powered subs. These speakers at low volumes sound great but become bass shy. That is usually true of most speakers with 6.5" bass drivers (especially if they have 2 or less of them).
      Unfortunately I can't change the aesthetics of this room to accommodate for improved sound. My wife is happy to let me live my hobbies but this is also her home. So I have to respect her space as well. And the living room is mainly her space as I have the entire basement to myself. As is they still sound fantastic and many of my audiophile friends were very impressed with the setup and sound. They were especially impressed at how much I spent on this setup and the sound I get without much room treatment or spending huge $$$.
      The rubber isolation did make the biggest difference in improving the sound and I am glad I did that. InshAllah when we get our next place I will have this setup in a dedicated music room with different amps, room treatments and get something else for the living room there.

      Audio sound is an emotion and fun that everyone adjusts to themselves differently, but it is true that we have different ideas of how neutral or colored the sound is, what we do with subw is the color of the sound in which we change the linearity of the main speakers.
      It is true 2 x 6.5 " units are too small and have too little airflow and too high fs to get the deepest bass for these needs at least from 9" units, but if we don't listen to electronic music and movie music 2 x 6.5 " is enaf with(room tretmant! + diferend speaker position!).

    Edit
    Also try to not have them parallel with each other, don't think of them as a "speaker" they're not, think of them as a pressure device that you want to evenly distribute pressure in the room so having both on one side of the room isn't going to do that
