thank god the selection process in europe is different. writing an essay on why you want to do a masters is ridiculous. people wanting to improve themselves is obvious no explanation needed.
That's actually a very good point and I agree. Unfortunately ,.. when the amounts of applications surpasses the availability of spaces...additional barriers to entry gets added,...hence "just wanting to improve yourself" usually isn't enough.
From what I've learned, the GMAT is requested for MBA (Master's in Business Administration) programs, whereas the GRE is basically for all the other Master's degree programs.
"..we just don't look at applic'ns below there unless there's some compelling reason.." i.e. check the right boxes. but you'll still get to complain that you're being discriminated against :)
and btw, i got a 68% on gre. [real analysis and abstract algebra questions pummeled me.] was told (on message boards) that unless you're in 90s, you have no chance of top-tier grad school. and if you don't get top-tier grad school, you have no chance of becoming faculty. [again, unless you can check the right under-representation box(es).] fyi..
@@gregy1570 The problem is that lesbian women of color just don't apply to maths programs in the first place, and that's why affirmative action exists. It's a statistical question initially, so you should understand that, but since you're too dumb to hit more that 68% in your maths exams, I don't expect you to get it. Get lost justifying your individual mediocrity with politics.

But most of the top programs are in the US

@@nakedshadows That doesn't take away from the valid point he made. It really is a good point.
supply and demand plays a role here.

very nicely explained. I wish I had a teacher like her with such deep and meaningful insight.
Wow, she looks so young and has so much behind her.
@Shashwat Shukla true
She is a humorous people with sharp mind. Love this speech
''I would love to find a better proof for the four colour theorem'' LOL nice
Lova and kronheiner and mrowka have a program working toward just that haha
It needs a better proof. I don't trust our future machine overlords.
This is incredibly helpful even 10years later. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Looking back at this. She gave the best advice when she said "talk to second year grad students". Qualifying exams hunts second year phD students.
Good to know that my sales and marketing experience will serve me well in the persuasion side of the essay.
One of the best explanation or tips I have heard on how to get into ivy league...
Really amazing ma'am.
Thanks a lot for this video
Bruh, I'm just a sophomore college student and I'm already nervous about applying to graduate schools haha

If the grad program does not give you money, they’re not serious about you.
Extremely insightful advice that's just Awesome
GRE is not accepted anymore by so many grad schools.
One senior Math lecturer I knew was working on a better proof of the 4 Colour Theorem after he retired only a few years ago. 😅
I like her!. Wish she was my teacher.
THANKS A LOT MAAM, for your valuable suggestions
Thank you for the great advice!
So honest. Thanks
How can doing a senior thesis help an application that is due in the autumn of the senior year?
Thank you for your advice!
ESAY-- Firey I, or acknowledged! Native American-- Broken below, gapped dx/dy-- but never divides!
really loved the speech
This is helpful, thank you.
Is subject GRE still accepted? I think even General GRE is almost dead
Chemical quadratics and physiology
GPA?
I thought I was the only one confused about gpa missing in her talk
gerate video
Iam doing BE(Electrical engineering) but i want do MS in maths because of my interest. Will it good or not plz guide me
No
How the story continue?
I wonder why she said GRE and not the GMAT

Math is horrible but this professor is neat. She tries to help her students open up the doors. Real world advice.
