- Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful, tonight with Bruce McCurdy and David Staples. Tonight they dig into Edmonton's 3-2 win over the Canucks of Vancouver with their 2 Good Things, 2 Bad Things, 2 Numbers and 1 Conundrum podcast
Bouchard's been a beast. Apparently he's the first Dman in NHL history to have hit the 20 point mark after 2 rounds of the playoffs. Just incredible.
Bouchard will be getting a huge raise or offer.....Oilers cannot have 2 9 million dollar men on D.. The Oilers need to start discussions with Nurse.
.
congrads to David and Bruce and all of Oil Country our boys did it! They won game 7 and are now going to the western conference finals! Lets go Oilers!
What series for Nuge! 10 pts, 90% pk and the series winning goal!
Needed all of it too. Good to see him step up huge in the playoffs. He's going to have to be awesome to beat Dallas
That 3-goal lead was nerve wracking. And McLeod decided to make it interesting.
Anyway, guys started blocking shots to hold the 1-goal lead to the end. Great win.
That timeout turned out to be key...
After that they didn't allow a single shot. Knobloch is a much better coach than I thought he was. He's got balls for sure with alot of the bold ass decisions him and the coaching staff made lol
I'd say he played a part in saving this series for them. Was pretty intriguing to see unfold the way it did
Bouchard dark horse for conn smythe lads.
Drawing the Stars just made him a darker horse.
Going to be interesting if Stars old guys will keep up....McDavid is faster backwards than Pavelsk is forward.
Great dominant win ! Bruce the shirt gave us the win!
It's a darn good thing Knoblauch saw the need to remove McLeod from the rotation in the last 8 minutes of the game. Big thank you from this Oiler fan
I wasn't even remotely exited when Brown had that breakaway. Not a chance 😊
My thought was if silovs lets this brown shorthanded goal in they might as well just start the handshake line right then and there
Thank you always to Bruce for your colorful and literate expressions! They really spice up the podcast. And to Dave for your audible faceplants, brightening up the screen with light reflected off your dome, are always therapeutic moments of shared dismay.
Man, I gotta state this, Draisaitl has 1 or more points in all 12 playoff games this year, he's INCREDIBLE. 😊
Janmark is playing well.
I agree and he is awesome on the pk!
Bruce, keep riding that shirt bud! You're the man!
Let's go, Sam on the 4th line the last two games have been a major factor in us winning.
100% my friend
Much harder to play against than an over the hill Corey Perry that just can't keep up anymore...who's best play of the playoffs was the stick hovering shenanigan move...🤦
Wins draws, clearly afraid of nobody (ran Zadorov multiple times 👍), can hop into the PK if needed (a nice bonus considering he didn't play a single second on the PK tonight...I think 🤔), and arguably most important (especially in a series like this getting their butts kicked in this category...🤦) wins important draws 👍
I wasn't touching Derek Ryan as he had a solid series in my opinion but I'm certainly not touching Carrick at this point. Another thing he did was actually helped create another competent line as well 👍
A big ass step up in weight class against Dallas for sure but will be interesting
Can you believe it?
Vancouver decided to only play 14 minutes of hockey today!
Great win fellas!
Shoulda bin a 5 game series. But we'll take it
What do ya bet they will NEED Pickard again Vs Dallas. Lol, I'd bet a lot. 275 million dollars.
Luv you guys
BRAVO,Oilers.Keep playing.
McLeod was having a good game...nice hit causing turnover and scoring chance.
McLeod is great at zone entries.
Want to see more offense and more physical play. Oilers would be untouchable if McLeod heats up
If this game was a famous band, it would be Van Failin. Oilers just have to make it an edge of disaster thing and this was no different. But they dominated overall and when they get really rolling, they can compete with anyone. Great series win!
I was thinking if it went to 3-3, they'd have to be renamed the Vancouver Comebacks.
Mcdavid even looks good when he blocks shots, the way he kicked his leg out on that shot from the blueline.
Hopefully Henrique is read for thursday and can replace Mcleod
Aye!
Big W by the fellas
Interestingly enough, Bruce's comments about the Oiler's ability to block dangerous shots mirrored the same comments made by Vancouver's Coach Tochett who stated that both the blocked shots plus the inability by the Canucks to hit the net were among the major reasons as to why the Oilers were victorious in this hard fought contest.

Just looking at the stats the Oilers shot a lot more, Hit a lot less, won slightly fewer faceoffs, went 50% on the PP and 100% on the PK (whereas Vancouver went 0% on the PP and 50% on the PK), and had a LOT more blocked shots (like nearly triple). The rest was a statistical wash. The team that should have won this game did. Round 3 against Dallas starting on Thursday. McLeod's error is what gave Vancouver the 1st goal in the 3rd and sparked them toward the second less than 4 minutes later. The play times were managed somewhat. Holloway, who had a good game stats wise, played more 3rd line minutes (almost 4th line) than the 2nd line he was supposed to be on (though Kane didn't have a lot more than that). Oilers won and move on to round 3. That's what's important.
Thanks again!
Wonder where all the Canucks tolls are tonight 🤔🤣😮😢
They went to bed early.
Yes! It’s all quiet on the western front. 😂

Trolls
Was hoping for a Skinner S.O. His psyche going to Dallas would have been a good boost. He deserved it.
Very satisfying introduction.
I agree with making Ryan M. sit after his big mistake. It was not just a mistake, but it gave Vancouver a tremendous boost. Bad luck perhaps but the team must see consequences.
Dallas is very good but not invincible. They have lost 4 playoff games, Oilers have lost 4 playoff games as well. Dallas has allowed a bunch of goals as well so anything can happen. Dallas might be deep but they don't have Drai, McDavid and Bouchard.
Agreed!
Thank f. MacLeod really tried his best cost us the game.... Don't wanna see him play again. Skinner just pulled that one out. Silovs was something else.
So so worried about Dallas but if Skinner doesn't stand up straight, it'll be a short series.
MacLeod is as soft as butter too. Said it before, the guys scared of his shadow, literally avoids hits... Unacceptable.
Nuge is doing new things, like working in the slot more and shooting without overhandling the puck. A few more players also have to push themselves to contribute more, McLeod and Foegele on the top of that list. Otherwise they won't get beyond the Stars.
They should continue rolling Skinner and Pickard 2:1 or 2:2. Skinner is much better when rested.
I hope Enrique is back for the Dallas series!
it's "Henrique"
enjoyed your series coverage from the other side, good luck going forward
I've never been more sure of a player not scoring on a breakaway, then Brown. Not a chance in H,LL was he gonna score
Whatever. He was going for the five hole (Silovs kriptonite). He had some bad luck in past but is a contributor.
We really do enjoy “the cult of hockey podcast” and listen to it after every game!!! But one thing that bugs us to no end is when Bruce is giving his explanation of what he saw and David talks over him. It happens too often and in our view is disrespectful!!! Please wait your turn, your thoughts are important and we’d like to hear them, not missing out on both views.
Happy Edmonton won ! Not thrilled at all in how they look. This team better button up quick. OF the 4 teams left I'd rank the Oilers 4th ... other 3 teams are more polished and much tougher mentally. Oilers have a real tough time playing 60 minutes..... It's time to fix the leaks in the boat OILERS!!
No doubt about that this series was a WARNING.... Oilers just seem to always be missing that something.... My suspicion is David and Bruce will be very unhappy in about a week to 10 days from now.
That breakaway attempt by Brown was the perfect summation of his season. Incredible opportunity with absolutely zero finishing ability. His shot placement was worse than if he'd missed the net. Just directly at the goalie and with the closest defender over 5 feet behind him.
PLAY LA BAMBAAAAAAAA!!!
WCF HERE WE GO!
LET'S GO OILERS!
Canucks deserves some kudos for their season. Their fans should be proud. And the words "if only" at the forefront.
Because if they had a full roster, who knows what happens?
Oilers and Dallas have a hard object to handle in front of them. Dallas with their depth and Oilers with their dynamic play.
This is an exorcism long overdue for the Oilers. I remember many somber days from the hands of the Stars, new fans, beware!
I think there's a way forward for the Oil this year. Stars have stars, sure, but Oilers have super Stars at their command!
It's time to go all in vs. the Stars. There's no way beating Stars without maximum effort.
I always enjoy Bruce & David breakdowns. Respect to Vancouver team for a great season and hell of a series.
Question about the Edm first goal. Slowing down the Ceci goal it from the angle behind the shooter it looked like Holloway tips it as it slightly changed angles.
On the last “ block “ from Janmark…..I thought it hit Zadorov foot in front. Maybe it went of Janmarks stick and Zadorov? Either way Skinner did not even move or square up to the shot before JT Miller ripped it off. Very fortunate because that was labeled far side with a goalie that has zero reaction.
What are your thoughts?
I think Dallas should fear Edmonton
Remind me, did Vancouver join the league before Edmonton?
Bruuuuce!
Don't forget John Davidson as a very good Colour Commentator on HNIC, and later for the NY Rangers broadcast.
Great Series !!! For next Round; Top Fwds Benn 9.25m & Hinz 8.45m & Seguin 9.25m vs McD 12.5m & Drais 8.5m.
Oettenger 4m vs Campbell 5m & Skinner 2.6m. and on D it is Nurse 9.25m vs Heiskinen 8.45m.
OILERS seem to have the highest paid D-man, and Goalie.... so I would go w EMD !!
Nurse is -10 so far, but I'm guessing he is about to start scoring & when he does - look out. Hoping it can be EDM in 4 !
The real battle is making sure they pay their hotel bill.
Congrats to the oilers , great work from all 4 lines ,Conor MCDAVID hopefully will get rid of the flu before the next game
They showed McCloud's face after he made that terrible mistake and he was definitely shaken. He looked like guilt personified.
McCloud. That is hilarious. Not sure if it was on purpose or not but does not matter.
Poor guy. A simple whiff and 💥 the game changes.
It’s a good lesson on the importance of a psychological boost.
The first game probably 6 goals after that, I cannot see the rest going beyond 5 goals, 2-1 3-2 games. I'd be surprised if more than 3 games score more than 5.
Pickard should start against Dallas.
I agree …I think that Picard is a playoff goalie and we should run with it!
@@dianedyck3474there are still a lot of delusional fans thinking it’s Skinner’s credit that we won this series. Skinner is hiding behind a good team and his playoffs stats are crap but his loyal supporters don’t care.
