  • My first night on the Pinhoti Trail held a few surprises…and a mystery. I woke up on day two wondering what kind of creatures are here? I'm taking my questions "to go" and ready to hike on!

Barred owl- a variation on “who cooks for you” probably conversing with youngsters.

Yep owls. Sometimes four or five would get wound up at my farm in Texas at the same time calling to each other. What a racket.
Coyotes won't bother you. Neither will bobcats. I just moved to northern Alabama from Texas (6th generation Texan) and I get tickled at the local fear of bobcats. 😂
Really enjoying your reports and envious of your trip! That trail is on my list. There are so many good ones here in north Alabama! I love it here and should have moved 20 years ago.

Sniper since birth has hated the owls. We have two that start talking between 2-3pm every day at the farm and Sniper loves to join in their foolishness! Happy Hiking

Nice video. Carrying a days worth of extra food is a very good idea. You never know when a critter will get part of your food or the weather will trap you on trail. I like to carry 3 instant oatmeal and a couple of Carnation Essentials in a separate ziplock. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

That was an owl making that racket. Sometimes several will join in and create a ruckus. I'm enjoying the videos. Wish I was out there, too. It's starting to get hot, though. It's about kayaking time!

Owl. Got a lot of em around the house. I live just south of Cartersville, GA. We had a bad storm this last weekend so I was concerned about your trek. My buddy and I want to do the Pinhoti next year when I retire and unfortunately that won’t be until the middle of summer. Hot, hot, hot.

Pretty positive that was an owl (or owls) that you recorded! Have fun and safe travels.

I love your videos but this one the volume is so low that I just can't hear you. Thanks for taking us along with you on your adventure.

Sorry about that. Audio outside can be a challenge.

Do you feel anxious when you get off trail?
