Thanks for your time in 2023 and before. Hope you can keep it up and enjoy what you do. Burn out is hard for me. Been with bees 11 years. Only have 21 doing good now

In South Florida a single deep is the way to go since the girls essentially forage year round. Bees tend to be meaner with double deeps down here, probabally because there's more to defend. Our painted bottom boards and tops rarely last more than five years. Boxes rot at the corners and edges.

in my honest opinon it all comes down to location not every city of a state going to have the same temperature as the only acturet thing would be that of a local beekeeper but apart from that take things with a grain of sult in regards to state wide a beekeeper needs 3 set of knowledge
    1 beekeeping knowledge
2 climet knowledge ie wather humility etc
3 botanist knowledge ie the types of plants/flowers/trees that are flowering for how long thay flower etc

3 years ago, I was forced to overwinter twenty single 5 frame deep nucs (SE Pennsylvania). Long story.... They all survived and it open my mind to thinking outside of my normal management which was always double deep overwintering. I would say smaller colonies do better in single boxes over winter. Bigger colonies are more resilient to cold and come out of winter bigger. But is bigger better?

It’s my first year in and I only have single deep and a super for winter! But I am always willing to experiment with double deeps!

Stick with single deep and supers for honey OR brood. Much easier on the back! simpler for eqt storage and purchase too :) LOL I answered before I watched the whole vid! If you start there and are comfy, stay there . Just bee prepared to end up with 3 supers, 2 for honey and one will * likely* have brood. What David says about feed too!

Here in the UK, we're preparing to have to start dealing with Asian hornets. There are all sorta of gadgets and gizmos coming into UK beekeeping stores to help deal with this, and we have to quickly make the right choices.
I'd like to see you talk about the Asian hornet issue in western Europe. You're viewers might find it interesting.

I think a 10 watt heater in the bottom under the screen might be a good thing. Maybe even putting a 5 watt heater in the center of the hive, mount in a frame using aluminum and screen to spread the heat and screen for the bees to hold on beside the warm aluminum sheet. I don't have any bees yet, but there's a swarm of ideas in my head. 😊

Thanks for sharing your great information. I did attend your live Thursday. So many of my questions were answered.
I did learn that i should check my candy board in two weeks after installing them. I'm wondering at what percentage that has been consumed. when should I put on a new one 50% 65% etc?😊

Dave I always tell people that I sell bees to that are new to take a class and I usually recommend yours and I may loose money but I won’t sell bees to someone new who has not taken classes.

Chance of getting stung is higher but we have done it at time and it works but you just can't paint their bottom board entrance for obvious reasons.

I live in the PNW Oregon, it always 🌧 raining .can anyone suggest something to keep the girls drier. I learned the hard way about making sure the hive is level or tipped forward so water doesn't get in. Any PNW Beek squad ? I am down to o e hive and this is my first year
