crested geckos are amazing for absolute beginners because all you need to do is change their food and mist their cage! with leos you have to get used to handling insects, gutloading them, have a calcium & multivitamin schedule, etc. so I really think it depends on how much work you want to put in!
My leo bit me once and it was because I put on hand sanitizer before handling without thinking about it. He didnt like the smell and honestly I didnt even feel it at all. It just surprised me more than anything and was totally my fault. Otherwise he's never even tried to bite me.
I suggest actually using sanitizer after you handle a reptile, not at all before. I do applaud your attempt to keep your hands clean before contacting him, but warm water would be safer for their skin (and mouth, if he happens to bite again)
I’d have to say crested gecko, mainly because of the food. Crested geckos main food is fruit mix. While Leo’s you have to constantly take care of the crickets, super worms, and calci worms.
no way is crickets/calcium/vitamins cheaper than crested food, a bag of pangea lasts months.i guess maybe if you buy repashy thats like $20 for an 8oz jar where pangea is $20 for a 1/2lb bag @@maxwelldouma1641

My 7 year old son and I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for making them. We started researching pet lizards about a year ago in anticipation of getting one when my husband and I felt our son was responsible enough to handle one (literally handle because feeding and care will be managed by me). So far my vote is for a crested gecko and my son wants leopard gecko. Who knows which we will end up with. We look at craigslist every so often because we like the idea rescuing rather than purchasing. I homeschool and we have lots of time for taming and or bringing back to optimal health. Thanks again for all you do.
Pls don’t do craigslist because there are some really scetchy people that will give u a sicko gecko and that’s a no no. Go to any breeder at a repticon pls I highly recommend it
Morgan VanderHoff you can find some on XYZ Reptiles or I went through a breeder in Missouri ( I think) and ordered them from her but she wasn't very cheap. You can also try LLL Reptile to see if they have any. I hope that helps. :)
Sadly I don’t think I’ll be in a life situation to safely keep a pet in a good environment for a few more years, but this channel really made me interested in reptiles and I’d love to get a crested gecko some years in the future when life’s calmer. They seem really neat and not too complicated to make happy.
@aoifeoconnor246 no that’s awful..Crested geckos are harder than leopard geckos..experienced is good for crested geckos..leopard geckos are easier and normally more tame.
Leopard geckos have all sorts of different look, there's a ton of morphs and it is so much fun buying a baby and watching their pattern change as they grow.

overall i'm really leaning towards crested geckos. they seem like they would be very easy to take care of, the only cons being the more decorated(expensive) cages and the cage cleaning. the feeding and misting seem very easy and will only take a few minutes every day. I've wanted a gecko for a long time and i think I've decided i want a crested!
It definitely does vary on geckos personality. I have two of each and they are both opposites. One crestie is super chill and the other likes to bite and jump. One of my leopard geckos doesn’t mind handling and the other is easily spooked and doesn’t seem to care for it

Firstly, GoHerping, I want to say I am absolutely impressed by you. Excellent job with this video. You are well spoken, professional, and knowledgeable. Secondly, thank you for making this video to help people like myself compare the similarities and differences between these two options. I think either option is good but I'm leaning toward crested gecko mostly due to the ease of feeding. Also, I kind of like how they are a bit jumpy.
i would have to say as an owner, whose had both, the crested geckos are much more fun but are harder to take care of, it depends what you are looking for. my leo’s would just sit there and looked so bored. but the effort for my crestie is worth it! he loves to jump in my hair and crawl all over the place ☺️ he’s a cute baby

He on the other-hand was very confused and kept turning his head and staring at my finger wondering what he had just done
My crested actually loves his water bowl, although I have seen him crawl into it, but it doesn’t happen often. Misting them when they shed is helpful too. I prefer creatives because I love their grippy hands, but they’re both adorable.

I'm planning on getting a leopard gecko. I'm about to get another paycheck and I'm going to use some of that to purchase all the stuff I'll need for the gecko. After I get everything set up and test it a couple days to make sure temperature and what little humidity is needed and make sure its correct I'll proceed with purchasing the gecko itself. I'll order it online and have it shipped to me. Won't be long now. I'm excited!
My crestie has a dropped tail and I love it about him. It makes him just as cute as the others in my opinion. I don’t see why we should shame the ones without tails. They are precious!
This video is very helpful! I am actually going to go get a leopard gecko from a rescue today sooooo excited, I am going to make sure to have the gecko’s enclosure at very warm temperatures which were kind of unclear before this video. Thanks so much!
I have owned both and let me tell you my honest opinion, crested geckos area tap harder on maintaining especially with cleaning and feeding, a crested gecko poops a bit more often then a leopard gecko and they poop on the foliage on the sides of the enclosure, on everywhere they can, you also need to clean their food dish way more often and have good sanitation where you prepare their food mix so they don’t grow in bacteria and get sick, yes you can keep them at low room temp but that doesn’t mean you should and it doesn’t mean your household will always have the perfect 75 f which means depending on where you live you might need some heat source or cooling source, leopard geckos on the other hand yes you do have to feed live feeders, but you don’t have to feed crickets you can feed easier handling feeders like mealworms or bsfl, and they really only eat a couple when they are young and a couple every other day when they are older, you don’t need to mix anything or sanitize, you really just dust a bit on bugs with calcium powder and leave them inside the enclosure that’s it, leopards geckos also choose a spot to poop and from what I seen it’s always a plain empty clear spot and are VERY unlikely to poop on you, unlike a crestie, leopard geckos are a bit cleaner in my opinion, therefore it’s easier just to clean their enclosure, a leopard gecko also requires less humidity and most importantly they are more hardy and forgiving of mistakes while cresties are more prone to stress, idk I think that if you really want the ultimate beginning reptile it’s a leopard gecko but if really don’t want to feed insects and want to clean more poop all around and more maintenance then go for a crestie, your basically trading one thing for another,
Your channel is super helpful! I work in a store that sells reptiles but our training on them isn’t the best. Learning from you and from SnakeDiscovery has been incredibly useful and it helps me educate other people
both are just as easy to care for as the other just in different ways and depending on your situation. i personally love crested geckos because they arent very difficult, dont need insects but is a good treat once or twice a week, i love how they look. while yes they dont have the colourations and morphs that leopards do. they still have gorgeous reds, browns, yellows etc with amazing patterns even if a bit more simple then leopards. i also love their dragon-like appearances and big eyes. i have a baby crested gecko who is amazing to handle, isnt very jumpy or fast moving unless gets scared or spooked by something because he isnt used to handling yet.
Hi! I know you haven't posted any videos about chameleons, but I was wondering if you have any experience or suggestions for someone considering one. Love your videos, they are so wonderful and helpful for me as a turtle mama!
Chameleons from my research arent as nice as a small gecko and do bite, it's known to hurt but very rarely draw blood, I recommend you get a lower maitnece lizard such as a gecko etc since you only have turtles, hope this was helpful but probably not enough considering I'm only 11!😎😁😂
This is old but chamelons are considered an intermediate animal because they are more delicate. They often need ventilated enclousers, meaning no glass ( Glass can work but I will recomand a live planted tank as this will keep the air cleaner) they need high humidity and only drink moving water so you have to mist them daily to make sure they getting hydrated. Chemleons are easily stressed and not always a fan of handling, but some won't mind it. You will know they are stressed with they turn dark while being handled. They need heat and uvb, and have to be fed mainly insects and a few veggies if they will take it. Roaches are a better feeder than crickets. They have more nutrition. All incests should be dusted with calcium powerder. Once you have everything set it's not hard, but because they are sensitive they are not recomanded for beginners. Females can suffer from becoming egg bound if not povided with a place to lay eggs. They also live shorter lives than males.
I would recommend a uvb light for a leopard gecko. It stops them getting metabolic bone desies but on the other hand you could give them synthetic d3 but that’s not as great for them. :)
Leopard geckos are cúter and there are so many species of leopard geckos with different lovely colours once you get one, you want to get another one and another one lol trust, i got my room full of leopard geckos i keep them in 2 shelves both shelves have 12 tiers wooden rack each for the surface i use tiles much better than kitchen paper or paper towel i breed them whole year can't wait for this coming April to start breeding season btw nice video mate
In my school, if you have a lizard, everyone first thinks *bearded dragon*. That's because everyone who has a lizard has a bearded dragon. I recently got a juvenile leopard gecko and his name is Maurice. Every time I say his name is Maurice I add a little joke from a song and say "he's a space cowboy." I have these tweezers that I grab his food with and feed him. He likes the clicking when I click the tweezers. I haven't been able to hold him yet, we've only had him about 4 days. I got him for my 11th birthday. My uncle used to have one and it lived a full 20 years. I'm subscribed, by the way.
Finally! I have seen crested geckos online but never figured out what they were called. Thanks for solving the mystery of "that gecko with the chubby feet and crazy lashes"
I live in south east Michigan and the only places I can find crested or leopard geckos besides the big stores are reptile expos. And generally are all over 50. And babies are a lot more expensive. There is a pet store by me that’s family owned and one of the workers there breed cresties and I bought one from her for 70$. I named it Oakley and it has 4 stripes and it’s such a nice gecko. Still very small only a couple months old but I love having one! So fun to learn about and take care of. Thanks for all of your information and I love your videos!
Another recommendation, though not easy to come by yet; If you want a Crested but don't have much room to work with for their enclosure, get a eurydactylodes! They require almost exactly the same care and are just as easy to handle, though they are very small and therefore delicate. Mine is living in a 2 gallon tall terrarium and he loves to cuddle with me.
I love your channel!! You seem very passionate about what you do at a very young age, amazing video you talked about everything, the best video about geckos that I’ve seen so far, new subscriber💜💜 sorry for my English I’m italian💜

How do crested geckos tolerate being handled? Do they like being handled or...?

I have owned both and let me tell you my honest opinion, crested geckos area tap harder on maintaining especially with cleaning and feeding, a crested gecko poops a bit more often then a leopard gecko and they poop on the foliage on the sides of the enclosure, on everywhere they can, you also need to clean their food dish way more often and have good sanitation where you prepare their food mix so they don’t grow in bacteria and get sick, yes you can keep them at low room temp but that doesn’t mean you should and it doesn’t mean your household will always have the perfect 75 f which means depending on where you live you might need some heat source or cooling source, leopard geckos on the other hand yes you do have to feed live feeders, but you don’t have to feed crickets you can feed easier handling feeders like mealworms or bsfl, and they really only eat a couple when they are young and a couple every other day when they are older, you don’t need to mix anything or sanitize, you really just dust a bit on bugs with calcium powder and leave them inside the enclosure that’s it, leopards geckos also choose a spot to poop and from what I seen it’s always a plain empty clear spot and are VERY unlikely to poop on you, unlike a crestie, leopard geckos are a bit cleaner in my opinion, therefore it’s easier just to clean their enclosure, a leopard gecko also requires less humidity and most importantly they are more hardy and forgiving of mistakes while cresties are more prone to stress, idk I think that if you really want the ultimate beginning reptile it’s a leopard gecko but if really don’t want to feed insects and want to clean more poop all around and more maintenance then go for a crestie, your basically trading one thing for another,
Ty for ur comment
I have a crested gecko and I love him and when they shed it’s so cool
Your channel is super helpful! I work in a store that sells reptiles but our training on them isn’t the best. Learning from you and from SnakeDiscovery has been incredibly useful and it helps me educate other people
Definitely crested gecko this helped so much thank u
I love both kind of geckos, I just love leopard geckos more
Nobody:
Leo geckos on tables: This is a suicide mission *OK*
If I get a new reptile it'll either be a corn snake or (more likely) a leopard gecko
buuut getting a new reptile is expensive so idk when i will
Leopard gecko😍😍
Leo&marius mine lived for 15 years, I would recommend them to anyone!
I just got a leopard gecko and he is the best
Clem Clem I am a leopard gecko
Leo&marius same
Thank you so much for this video!! I have a beautiful Leo and I'm wanting to get either another Leopard or a Crested. So this helped a lot.
Oh I chose. Both of them
both are just as easy to care for as the other just in different ways and depending on your situation. i personally love crested geckos because they arent very difficult, dont need insects but is a good treat once or twice a week, i love how they look. while yes they dont have the colourations and morphs that leopards do. they still have gorgeous reds, browns, yellows etc with amazing patterns even if a bit more simple then leopards. i also love their dragon-like appearances and big eyes. i have a baby crested gecko who is amazing to handle, isnt very jumpy or fast moving unless gets scared or spooked by something because he isnt used to handling yet.
I love how the crested gecko is like: yeah man let me just chill on your microphone and vibe 😎
I just watch all your videos for you lol your content is good but your delivery is the best and well informed truth.
I love leopard gecko! Great pet
Great video this will help me alot when it comes to me picking my next reptile pet
GECKS
Hecc my gecc
i agree
i wanted to get a reptile and didn't know anything about them. I stumbled upon this and other channels in the process of research and I love your work
I have one of each and I absolutely love them both! I recommend them both as pets, they're so lovable
My leopard gecko is on my jacket sleeve right now and every time I take him out he crawls back and falls asleep
Definitely informative. Despite being easy to care for, they do have some key differences
Goldies eyes are gorgeous!

I would recommend a uvb light for a leopard gecko. It stops them getting metabolic bone desies but on the other hand you could give them synthetic d3 but that’s not as great for them. :)
I prefer Crested geckos. I mean look at their faces!!!
Dj Minecart I mean they are cute but I don't like there massive eyes
Leopard geckos are cúter and there are so many species of leopard geckos with different lovely colours once you get one, you want to get another one and another one lol trust, i got my room full of leopard geckos i keep them in 2 shelves both shelves have 12 tiers wooden rack each for the surface i use tiles much better than kitchen paper or paper towel i breed them whole year can't wait for this coming April to start breeding season btw nice video mate
I don't know, man. Their eyes scare the crap out of me.
@@djdamyxhdx2605 there's only species, what you're talking about is morphs
@@michalvesely3484 that's dumb. My crestie is adorable
I got my leopard gecko 7 years ago today! He’s 10 years old. Happy Birthday, Skitter!🥳🦎
I have 2 leos, going to be adding a crested in April :)
Full of information!! I'm grateful this this channel is here!!
By the way crested geckos do like to eat live crickets even if you get vitamins in the powder
Thanks for the video, I just brought home my first gecko and I got a crested! Can't wait to see the little dude grow🤘
I like leopard geckos more i have one he is called titan he is chill and so sweet
Awww they are so cute!😁
Finally got mine and your videos were an awesome help !!!! Hope to see more crestie videos!!!
I already picked which one i want, i just felt like watching this
Finally! I have seen crested geckos online but never figured out what they were called. Thanks for solving the mystery of "that gecko with the chubby feet and crazy lashes"
Leopard geckos are really cute ngl
Ikr I love them😍
I live in south east Michigan and the only places I can find crested or leopard geckos besides the big stores are reptile expos.
You can really see there personalities while he’s holding them
I've been bitten by a corn snake before during his adolescent, jerk teenager stage, and even that was nothing. It's nerves over pain/discomfort 100%.
My leopard gecko likes to climb up my face to my head :D
that's cute
Mine did that yesterday
In my uninformed opinion, that seems to be one comfortable gecko.
Dang. That's the coolest pop filter I've ever seen anyone use.
'Crested geckos are cheaper' Me, wishing I never saw the prices of Lilly Whites
Another recommendation, though not easy to come by yet; If you want a Crested but don't have much room to work with for their enclosure, get a eurydactylodes! They require almost exactly the same care and are just as easy to handle, though they are very small and therefore delicate. Mine is living in a 2 gallon tall terrarium and he loves to cuddle with me.
either way i have 3 cresties and 2 leopard geckos but this was a great vid
Love my crestie! I can't resist their faces. Thanks for the video
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! I'm going to repticon next month and was debating whether I should get a crested or leapard gecko!
Awesome! Which one do you think you will be getting?
Cit Laly I mean why have one when you can eventually get both?
Your Imagination I think he got a turtle
@@lillyhomme1993 I ended up going with leopard geckos :)
@@kittenfish5116 true lol. I'm actually thinking of getting a gargoyle gecko which is very similar to a crested.
I love your channel!! You seem very passionate about what you do at a very young age, amazing video you talked about everything, the best video about geckos that I’ve seen so far, new subscriber💜💜 sorry for my English I’m italian💜
