Today: finally purchased 45-100 for my GFX 50R - excellent in areas of micro dynamics and overall tonal accuracy. Surprised, honestly .. Bokeh and gradients are fine, sweet, natural - no "clinical" sharpness for the sake of perfection - much more kind of own characteristics, but of course excellent clarity. 1/40 free shots available, 1/15 if by support of elbows .. This is in my opinion is the "Eier legende Wollmilchsau" for R/S users. More: Nature / City / Things .. I did not miss wider angle of view .. did not miss the 32-64 .. fantastic output, great value!
Got mine a couple of days ago. The OIS on this lens is amazing. On my 50R I have handheld at f11 down to 1/30 and at least 90% of the photographs are sharp as tacks. I'm not entirely sure how having IBIS would improve this lens and it makes the 50R even more usable in walk around situations. The colour draw and sharpness of the lens is outstanding. Straight out of the camera the colours have the 'Leica' pop which is an unexpected bonus.
I'm considering either the GF 110 f/2.0 or the GF 45-100mm f/4 R LM OIS for my GFX 50R. This would be for portrait photography and can't weigh in the benefits. 45-100 has Image Stabilization while the 110 does not. Many say the 110 f/2.0 is better. Please help in my decision. Thanks
@@antonroux6737 Thanks. I rented the Fugi GFX 45-100mm F/4 and very unhappy with it. Happy I rented it and sent it back. 110mm is way better and thats my keeper. Yes I do portraits. Thanks
I remember you praising the 32-64 as the hands down lens to have, and now its no longer one of your favorites, I just got the 32-64 because of your recommendation and having the need for something on the wide side to cover the recruitment drive for a fire department, my 45-100 was just not wide enough, not to mention the $1,200 price I got it for
Hi! I am getting my first medium format. Got the GFX 50R. I do a lot of cityscapes and landscapes. Can’t decide if I want the 45mm f2.8, or the 32-64mm. What are your thoughts? I basically just shoot what my eye sees and think looks good. Just can’t decide what lens would benefit me.
Purchasing the GFX 50R since its on sale starting today and got this lens since the price drop allows me to jump into Medium format. Thanks for your reviews on both!
Thanks for the review ken. I was waiting for a 45-100 review, but haven't seen much (compared to the FF counterparts or APS-C counterparts). In my tests, unless you are cherry picking, this lens will not disappoint you and it gives you stellar output. But you need to be aware of extremes (f/4 at 45 & 100, f/32 at 45 & 100) as they give some softness or distortion, depending on the focal length/aperture combination. Yep, your suggestion to have this as the first GFX lens is good, unless someone is explicit on their needs. I'd stick to 45-100mm for a very long time before buying other ones (I own 45mm, 63mm, 32-64mm, 45-100mm, 100-200mm and have no plans to buy 110mm, 120mm, 50mm and 250mm due to my shooting needs)
Ken, I’m planning to purchase a GFX 50s II. Which lens (only one) would you suggest for food photography, product and auto shooting. I now shot with Sony A7R cameras with Sony glass.
Okay, so as someone who wants the 50r primarily for landscape, I think the 32-64 focal range would be far more useful for me and could serve as a single lens to start with for a while. It's actually an ideal focal range for me. Is the 45-100 that much better than the 32-64? Because then I would also have to go for the 23mm on the wide end, which would be a hard pill for me to swallow because I don't shoot ultra wide that much.
personally i prefer my 32-64mm over the 45-100mm i have tested it for me wide angel is more important to me than ois but my Next Lens is gonna be the 45mm or 100-200mm
I'm sure this is a good lens but the focal range doesn't interest me for my purposes ( landscape mostly ). Still waiting for a tilt-shift wide angle and/or wide zoom. Until then I chiefly use the GF 32-64mm f4, GF 23mm f4 and GF 100-200mm f4.5-5.6 when out in the field. If a subject falls into the 64 - 100mm range I can just move closer, or failing that crop in .... it's not as if the GFX 100 is lacking in resolution !
Hey Ken, nice review. I have been searching for an information on the OIS of the 45-100mm which I obviously haven't found yet (and which you hopefully can answer): how does the lens' OIS interfere with the GFX 100's IBIS? Do OIS and IBIS complement or impede each other?
Hi Angry Photographer. Nice review! I bought one based on your review and I am loving it. This weekend however when I was pulling it out of my camera bag I grabbed the hood and pulled it out and ended up sliding the zoom from 45 to 80mm. You have a ton of experience with zoom lenses so I thought maybe I could ask you if you think I might have done some damage to my lens by "pulling out" the zoom instead of turning it in the usual way? It was a gentle pull and nothing like I yanked it out of the bag. Its giving me sleepless nights thinking if I did some damage to the lens.
@@KenTheoriaApophasis Thank you sir! Coming from an expert I can sleep better now :) The lens is an absolute beast and I love the OIS with my GFX50R. Thanks again.
You probably the only person that can give me a decent answer to this question The Whole sigma and Fuji thing simply sigma say they want to prioritize other projects which is very understandable but since they make good glass don’t you thing it’s a huge mistake since Fuji is the number one APSC camera, so would it be hard for them to simply switch the mount ? You kinda my only Fuji source lol
Thanks Ken! So Obi Wan Cleetus I have a travel question. I'm going to Morocco next fall for two weeks of photography (once in a lifetime). I'll be taking a GFX50S and a (don't hate me, I don't smoke a pipe or wear an ascot) Leica Q with a 28mm Summilux (I think I emailed you a picture from that camera). I was thinking of taking 3 lens for the GFX, 23mm, 45mm and 100-200mm. But now I'm thinking 45-100mm and 100-200mm or 45mm, 45-100mm and 100-200mm. I have all the lenses but the 45-100mm. I love my 110mmF2, but I don't want to start looking like an heiress going on vacation with multiple trunks. I'm thinking of trying to stay away from carrying a tripod with, which is doable with OIS on the 2 zooms, but I might want to take some ND filters with. Your thoughts, please.
I know very little science, but I feel you are on the ball. Do you have any book on science that you could recommend to me? I would like something that first broadly lays out the foundational pillars of science. (Section 1) then in each following section, it is broadened and deepened. I learn quickly, but need to learn in building blocks. I believe you are correct about relativity and the Aether. Thanks for your vids.
@@KenTheoriaApophasis Thanks Ken. I've never used a hand strap. Can you suggest one. Also, in another video, you mentioned an extension tube for macro. Which one did you suggest. And is it better that using the Tokina 100 macro with ef-gfx adapter?
random thought for camera sensors (probably been thought of). Perhaps this is what Sony does to achieve their ridiculous high ISO. I believe I have thought of a way to do this. Every pixel needs to have a negative pixel (wired with negative polarity) paired with it such that when light hits it, each pixel pair (or quad) records the same signal positive and also negative electrically. Now the sensor on the back-end INVERTS the negative polarity sub-pixels and after inverting ADDS the signal to the positive there by DOUBLING the sensitivity and effectively CANCELLING OUT THE NOISE!!!! this would enable insane low-light AND reduced noise at high ISO. this should work since the noise should record POSITIVE on BOTH the positive AND inverted sub pixels-- but when you INVERT the negative sub-pixel before you add it, you also invert the local noise which will actually subtract from the EXACT same noise in the local positive thereby effectively canceling it out. I should get paid for this.
Great review Ken. Did you see Regis and Kathy Lee did a video on the effect of corona virus and photography? Love to see you do a response to their video. What do ya think?

What was the filter product yo recommend for the GF 45-100mm

is it possible for fujifilm to make gfx lenses with f/1.8-1.4?
I don't see f/1.4 happening at all. They do have f/1.7 on their roadmap
