Danny - you are the Creame de la Creame of railroad videographers. You explain what is being presented in both context and business purpose; that is so rare among those posting railroad videos.
"This is Danny Harmen, out." That's got to be the saddest part of the video, but also a great, signature way to sign off. Love the vids Danny! The ending always puts a smile on my face! See you next time, somewhere out there on the high iron!
Danny, I'm retired Navy and ran local and through freight between Baldwin and Tampa for a year in 2003. Your videos bring back some good memories. For those that do not know there's a definite skill to switching cars without taking more than a step or two. When new you'll run for ever and get wet in the rain until learning to switch smart. Good memories, and would have loved to make it a second career if not for the difficulty of being junior on the board. Being displaced on the board makes it a challenging life. With that said nothing cooler in life than running a train at 50 or 60 through a tight turn and crossings between Jax and Wildwood. Thanks for the memories. Bob j
I recall seeing the 1776 painted unit at Baldwin, from the I-10 bridge back in 1978. The crazy kid in the car waving wildly at that lead engine was me. I miss SCL. CSX is larger and better in most ways, but I will always have a special place in my heart for those black and yellow locomotives, with Mars lights, of SCL. You not only heard them coming towards you, but felt them back then.
I'm new to railfanning and now that I'm retired have time to watch videos. Yours are the best! I spent a day going through just about all of them. I love your explanations and I've managed to learn quite a bit! Thank you very much.
Catching up on some of your older videos. I just made my first trip up to Folkston and 21:16 Waycross from Port Charlotte. I went up on 301 and caught a lot of SAL heritage. I ventured into Baldwin and parked across from the post office. I met another RUclipsr there and learned that CSX had pulled the diamond. I agree about your assessment of Baldwin. Your other videos have been a great help in my learning new territory after upper Midwest for the past 10 years.

Great video Danny, enjoyed the discussion and history of Baldwin Yard, can’t figure out why rail management always seems to be trying to get rid of it. You have real dedication to get up at 4:30 in the morning and stay out to almost midnight, please don’t get so tired that you fall asleep at the wheel, stay safe and well! Nate
You know, rumor has it that there once was a young lad with a name much like yours, who tried his hand at being a railroader, quite a few decades ago and I even imagined what that might have been like on a regular basis, after having watched you in your latest incarnation...and the flashback that I had almost seemed real...and I remembered the thought that I had as you got off the locomotive. It would sure be nice if all the new hires that were coming up through the ranks were as good as that one...and it still holds true to this day! I'm proud to have known you and keep up the good work! -MLV.. (Engineer, retired~ 40 yrs. of service.)
I visited the Baldwin yard once while taking a railroad concepts class during my time as a contractor for CSX. I was amazed at how smoothly everything operated. The Yardmaster is a true multi-tasker. He was able to talk to our group and keep track of all the traffic coming in and out of the yard at the same time. I work as a CAD operator for a local railroad signal engineering firm. It's nice seeing how signals work in real life settings.
We often travel from near Statesboro GA to Winter Haven FL often via Hwy 301 (also via Amtrak) to visit family and so this very well made video is interesting to see what's going on on the rails. Have passed by these places many times. Your videos, explanations, and knowledge is outstanding.
Another incredible video Danny, you are the best on RUclips. Always just love watching your train videos Danny. I’m in the aviation business as a mechanic for AA here in Tulsa, but still always get a thrill out of being the first one at a rail crossing to watch a BNSF or UP training go rolling by. Grew up as a kid in Waterloo, Iowa and the RI ran by at the end of our street. At night we’d peddle our bikes hard as we could go watch the 9:30 Rocket go roaring past heading south. On the way home from school walking along the tracks, could sure dilly dallying along if I saw a distant signal light turn red, knowing I’d get to watch a freight switch out cars at the siding tracks at the end of our street. But still love trains. Thanks for your information and great train videos. Be safe!
This video of Baldwin Yard was AWESOME Danny! You definitely get to see some AMAZING TRAINS and to have you NARATING adds to the PERFECTION of your videos! Btw, the "STREET RUNNING TRAIN" at the end was my favorite!
