Joe Chambers has some of the most musical drum comping of all time in jazz history in my opinion and he's underrated. He's exceptionally musical and delicate with his time keeping and swings super hard! Oh! And the sound and tuning of his drums, his cymbals. He had his own unique sound, easily identifiable in seconds. He oozes great taste and interplay when he comps behind a soloist. One of the tastiest drummers ever. Gratitude!
Awesome clip! Joe Chambers was one of my favorite players growing up - blew me away on Wayne’s The All Seeing Eye - and McCoy’s Man From Tanganyika - God I must’ve played that tune 10,000 times….and this is some of my favorite straight ahead herbie groove - Like on Speak Like a Child - Thanks for posting, JVG!!!
Oh wow! I love to see this kind of call and response. I imagine them having a conversation… That turns into a debate… And their expressing themselves through instrumentation. Love this! 💞🎶
@@JazzVideoGuy Absolutely! I personally "discovered" Joe the same year that I "discovered" Herbie: 1966, on the SUPERB Wayne Shorter album Adam's Apple. Even then -& me not having graduated even out of sheer trousers -- I was stunned by Joe's mastery of timing, not only on the album's title track but even more so on Chief Crazy Horse and .. wait for it ... the soon-to-become-a-jazz-standard Footprints.. .. Never looked black and: a lifelong love affair with Herbie's indisputably GENIUS output .. AND all those who have been gifted enough to play with him AND PRODUCE SUPERLATIVE MUSIC! (Therefore, almost always NOT the many "pick-up" bands which various big wheels within the music industry have obliged him -- presumably for contractual reasons -- to play with. It's NOT DIFFICULT to distinguish the difference in musical calibre between a labour of love and simply paying the rent. (Well, maybe a bit more than that; Herbie has always been cool-headed enough to look after his finances. He must be worth $15-20 million by now, and GOOD LUCK to him!!!

it is a musical conversation, at a very high level considering the players

Check Joe and Herbie out in «Adams Apple» with Wayne Shorter - a real thriller.
Love that album, especially Chief Crazy Horse
Love Pol Chambers in the Kind Of blue Miles Davis one of his best Albums❤️
Jimmy Cobb was the drummer on Kind of Blue. Not sure what you're referring to.
Sorry maybe I thought about Pol Chambers Bass miss understood with Drumer
@@robertocasale5991 Apology unneccesary. You dug this music. That's all that matters.
Sorry that crossed out but should have read SHORT trousers. "Predictive text" has, as yet, severe limitations!!
I really appreciate all your videos 😊 especially your short comments on our jazz heroes. . . thanks again for all your efforts 🎶🎷✡️🕉️
