Huge fan for more than 40 years, thanks for reacting to this one! She syncs her voice with a synthesizer at the end which is virtually impossible! No auto tune nothing like that. As popular and famous as she is, she’s still underrated. There is no one like her, and her voice needs to be appreciated ❤️

Absolutely 💯 Livvy was way too modest, she had platinum pipes and a signature tone like NOTHING OR NO ONE. Truly jaw dropping when she used them!

Opening track to her best studio album. I remember hearing those whistle notes for the first time back in 1978. Just as fresh and impressive, 42 years later. This song makes my ONJ Top 5. So glad you liked it!

Whistle notes- LOVE Olivia's vocal battles with the band's instruments just off the charts atmospheric. Opening notes sexy as ON-J was always the feminist to make confidence her sexy. Olivia's voice such an amazing instrument!

After the phenomenon that “Grease” was, this song was the first track on her follow up album “Totally Hot,” which is my favorite ONJ Album of all time! The vocalization in this track is off the chain! She sings it straight, croons, whispers and whales on that one! This track displays a new liberation for her! I loved that she could experiment and sounded like she was having fun playing vocally! Her band and the sonic production values are nothing short of solid! It’s a huge misstep that this track was not released as a single! It’s definitely a fan favorite because this track was a game changer for her! “Grease” was a great transition from adult contemporary to a more aggressive rock sound! “Totally Hot” solidified that she could excel in uptempto numbers like with this track and “Deeper Than The Night,” “A Little More Love” “Gimmie Some Lovin’” and the title track! The “Totally Hot” album was a perfect mix of ballads and rockers!

If youve seen ONJ perform live, , , even all the way up into her mid sixties, she could still reach & hold those high notes that adorn the end of this song . The real deal l - no studio trickery here. Just pure ONJ POWER❤

I totally agree with you. A lot of controversy by her new leather look, alone, and then you add the adult themes compared to her earlier albums. Olivia was already great/fantastic. She was first pushed into a country category, and then pop. This was her coming out/coming of age album. This was an independent, free Olivia album. Record company probably put more into this album compared to previous and future albums. This was not only a big album for Olivia, but a significant risk for the record company. Olivia’s new image was hugely controversial, and people were divided over this change of direction. I have loved every period of her career. I was literally proudly in love with this woman when I was seven, first with her voice. Olivia was beautiful, and sexy, but really that easy going girl next door personality made everyone love her, men and women alike.
I was in middle school when this highly anticipated album came out. And a huge thing for me was we actually had a kick ass stereo system where I could crank this album, and adjust the sounds and speakers perfectly. This was right after Grease came out. Olivia was huge during that time.

@@EmpressReacts LOVE ON-J's vocals on Boats against the current....piano background notes always sounded like 'row row row your boat' to me as a simple subplot /earworm to be a clever foil against such a passionate ballad.

Greetings from Greece!!! Isn't it just super amazing??? It is!!! Those high notes!!! It just blows me away. I should say that the portion of the song with the high notes i.e. from about 5:00 and on, graces my mobile phone as a ring tone .... when those high notes hit, it doesn't matter how much noise there is around me - I always hear the phone "ringing" 😁 Simply incredible vocal talent!
