There’s an easier way I found today while doing this. Pull the nut and bolt for the power steering pump so it can slide forward on the bolt. Then go below and on the bottom of the radiator fan shroud, look on either side there is a clip, pop both, and push up and voila the fan shroud is no longer in your way, and you can take the alternator down from the bottom, it makes disconnecting the wires easier cuz you can turn it while it’s still attached and get pliers on the wire, and nut, then twist it as you pull down between the hoses there. Goes right back in the same way, took me less than 15 minutes to get my new one back in and hooked back up once I figured this out. Hope this helps. Nice video, thanks for sharing your work.

Just did mine, took 1.5 hours, 2 things I would recommend, take the alt out from the side, just pop the tab that holds the little mud flapper and it comes right out, just turn the wheel to the right when you park it,,,and a trick I used to stab the alt onto the bolts, tie some twin around the pulley, you can hold the weight up with one hand and guide it in with the other, there is nor room for 2 hands down there,,,,,FYI I did this and I am missing my right arm,,,,so man up and get it done,,,,

I just wanted to say thank you. I replaced my alternator and serpentine belt on my 2007 Toyota Tundra with this video as a guide. I appreciate you making it.

Good video. But for anyone looking to do this. Loosen the power steering pump to mostly off, enough to slide forward. Get under the truck, undo the sway bar, reach up remove the 2 bolts and nut off the alternator. You have wide open access underneath without having to remove a bunch of other stuff but you'll need an impact for the sway bar.

Great video. Thanks for putting it together. One item of note, my PS pump had two different length bolts. Not sure if it matters but I definitely kept track of what went where. This is the first work I’ve done on a truck not manufactured in the 1970’s. Damn they cram everything in there.

So...1970s older cars were easier to fix, more spaced apart?
--never knew older mechanics had it easier...XD

Video was helpful. Did this job for a friend this morning. Tedious, not impossible. Whoever designed the power steering pump to have to be unbolted and moved before you can remove the alternator needs to be drop kicked in the nuts. Don't wrestle around with trying to pull the alternator our of the top. Unbolt the sway bar and drop it out the bottom. It's a lot easier and you have more room to work.

    sweet, GOOD VIDEO MAN,THANKYOU!
IM INTO CAR AUDIO ,LOOKING TO REPLACING MY ALTANATOR ON MY 4.7 FIRST GEN. TUNDRA WITH A H/O ALT
THIS GAVE ME A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF MY CHALLENGE'S ,SO THANKYOU!
I wish I filmed the headers I put on my first gen, took me 3 days on & off & still did it faster than the shops I called, books times!(their chart) the passenger bank was alot easier ,the driver side/bank had me going bald at 26. & I got em headers all on ,(obx racing) they look sweet & sound alot like a exotic ford cobra engine!
DIY is always the way to go, I just RUclips something before I do it, even if I've done it already!
SAVED ME $1,400 ON JUST MY HEADER INSTALL!

IT HELPED A LOT. THANK YOU. ALL THOUGH I TOOK THE ALT. OUT BETWEEN THE RIGHT INNER FENDER COVER AND FRAME. I DID IT IN THE FIELD LITTERALY. IF I WAS IN MY SHOP I WOULD HAVE SPUN THE SWAY BAR ANCHORS OUT AND DROPPED IT OUT THE BOTTOM. NO TOP STUFF. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. IT GAVE ME A GOOD IDEA.

Pulled mine out from the bottom. Jacked up the truck, let the tires hang.
    Removed shield.
    Rubber mat by wheel
    Left wheel on
    Serpentine Belt removal
3 alternator bolts. 130 A have towing package
Did not need to remove hoses or power steering pump. Power steering pump had 2 bolts and 1 nut on the front by the pully. Wasn’t necessary to remove.
Pulled out from the bottom from where I removed the rubber mat.

Okay on the 2008 Tundra with the 4.7 everything in the video is pretty close until you are ready to remove the alternator. Instead of going out the top, go under the Tundra and drop the stabilizer across the front, the alternator just basically falls out. Fish the new one right back in thru the bottom. Start the alternator bolt and nuts. Put the power steering pump back in. All of this is in the video. Now the power steering pump has 2 bolts and 1 nut. All can be reached thru the holes in the power steering pulley. 1 is kinda hard to see but its below and to the left a hair of the top bolt.Get it thru the pulley.

mine came out from the side no issues, saved time having to R&R the stabilizer bar

Did I see it correctly, did you have to pull the power steering pump to remove the alternator from the engine bay?

  • @Williedamaris

I didn't have to remove the power steering pump, like I said, the alternator was easier through the bottom.
    Try it.

Watched the video cause a co worker needed an alternator but after finishing it's impossible to pull up top just remove the skid plate and the power steering pump then pull the one tranny hose at the bottom of the radiator and it slide right out 1.5 hour job and I'm like a 4 of out 10 mechanic
