Got to admit, I’ve not been that impressed by the Insta360 image quality when compared to the GoPro/DJI… until now! To me that seemed noticeably better, particularly the night footage - although as you rightly say, mounting the GoPro/DJI on the bars will certainly have an impact when compared to the helmet mounted insta, so I’m looking forward to your detailed comparison👍 I’m not taken on the AI features though, just seems a gimmick to me personally, and not sure how/why I’d need that for my own purposes. Would certainly be different though and a way to standout from the crowd… until everyone does it obviously! Top quality content as always bud, love your work 👏👍
Yea i hear ya, and agree with you a lot there. It's still a new camera and am yet to push it's boundaries, but i think they've entered the market with a very promising product that has got GoPro and DJI thinking... maybe not GoPro but wishful thinking haha. Hope you're well mate!
The lowlight looks Great for an action cam! BUT INSTA360 made a huge mistake not making the lens cover removable. GoPro made that mistake with the hero8 & quickly changed that with the Hero9. I am surprised that INSTA360 didn’t think of this. A removable lens cover is a must for an action cam.

To be fair, as nice and handful new features the Insta360 offers, the image quality is still a bit behind GoPro & DJI. Plus, I would love to see 10-bit colors for more flexible colorgrading.
I am sorta seeing this with the daytime footage. I think with the Ace, the sharpening needs to be added in camera just alittle. It looks a bit mushy compared to the gopro and Action 4. I cant wait to get mine so i can really tinker with it. It has the potential and inst360 has the best software as far as "ease of use" goes so i am curious to see how they improve little things as far as software goes to make thing like its 'seemingly' mushy footage plays out. My brain is trying to tell my eyes the footage (daytime) looks better then the gopro and Action 4, but my eyes are telling me different.
Oh, yes, it's a folding screen, I have experience with such a camera, OLYMPUS implemented such a solution at the time, and of course this screen has a loop, I was very sad when the screen on my camera stopped working, and I think sea salt can cause problems. But yesterday I wanted to buy a SYM 125 moped to go to the beach on a sunny day and I received an offer from INSTA 360 frosty day, but I liked the night shooting...very well👍
Do or are they going to make an underwater housing for scuba divers? I know it's rated to 10m but that doesn't cut it for scuba where a 40 or 60m housing is required

have you considered the 1 RS 1" instead? that Leica lens is amazing at night footage and even nicer during the day. It puts out a beautiful picture in general. I understand the price, but it is a very very good camera IF you want to increase your video quality but still prefer the 360° style.
I was looking at getting this as the next one up from my hero 9, however I’m not such a fan after watching this. It looks a bit too sharp and the au stuff is not yet as advanced (or do we really want it when we are capturing life)? The motion blur I can imagine is quite temperamental. The night vision looks much better than go pro currently, but I think I I’ll hold off until GoPro decide they’re going to combat the ace pro and go with that. Thanks for this it was very helpful. I am a Insta360 One R user. Can’t really trust Insta360 once again. Having a lot of issues with my One R. On the other hand my GoPro user friends are having reliable life with their GoPro… All the established motovloggers use GoPro as their main action camera… I went for Insta360 to break the stereotype but wasted my money I guess…
Just bought a week ago an RS One twin set... but tbh don't want to swap it on this one. Prefer versatility of swapping lenses and having a smaller screen rather than this one. 🤷
Nope, I just couldn’t be bothered removing my lav mic from one helmet to the other - the dji mic is a much quicker install. It works great with just a lav mic
Thanks for the review. The only negative I have on the Ace Pro when compared to the Hero 12 and Action 4 is the slightly smaller FOV. If anything, I want a larger (wider) FOV on my motorcycle videos. Can you do a more detailed comparison regarding FOV of these cameras?
@@MotoFeelz I would like to see how this camera actually compare to DJI, in color grading (if I want to), for riders majority of the time we ride through the day so night rides can be a compromise. And for all other night videos we have iPhone :D Also alot of them kept talking about thei highlights looking great form HDR.
I am impressed and when I figure out how to get one shipped to me I'll plunge. The WHOLE package will cost over $1200. Extra batteries, charger, GPS remote, the camera, cold shoe, mic adapter - which renders the camera not waterproof - and this is an issue with ALL the cameras. I want this as a helmet cam, and I have a mic in my helmet for audio. I wonder if its best to wait a bit and see what problems arise - brand new product and all. Its a hefty investment for me.
does it rain a ton where you live? I use my sena 20Sevo to connec to my cams and they take a sprinkle with ease using these mic adapters. I also ride a sport tourer which gives me plenty of protection from direct water intrusion, so i can get away with a sprinkle (possibly light light rain) although id pack it away with light rain but im not worried about sprinkles with my type of bike due to windscreeen protection.
@@Jonasegway I am touring the world right now. Just finishing up in Mexico and tomorrow I enter Belize. Then eventually the rest of Central America. I will hit rain, thunderstorms, just missed 2 hurricanes, and will ride into the rainy season where it rains every day. The mic input becomes an issue.
i´m really disapointed that the lens isnt removable, when i think how often i had to replace lenses on my gopros because of little rocks or sth during drives. Its more of a vlogging camera than an action cam without the option to replace the lenses.

I am curious if they make a protective filter for those of us that spend more time off road on brushy trails and such? The dynamic range looks like it would handle in and out of trees well for dirt riding, but a protective lens would be a must.

I know that you plug in an external mic to the camera but I've been using the helmet comms directly via bluetooth on the GoPro 12. The problem is when I start a quick capture (by just pressing the record button) the camera doesn't connect to the comms and just records the audio from its own mics. I need to power it up first, let it detect the comms and only then I can start recording. I would be interested to see if this also happens in the Ace Pro.
It will absolutely do this with the Ace models. It is the nature of quick capture. Those features are prioritizing getting straight to recording. With gopro hero 11 and older, youd have to turn the camera on manually and leave it on waiting for it to find satellites. Once it finds satellites, you can use the quickcapture feature and the GPS should still be fixed to throw in your telementry data while recording. When it comes to recording using bluetooth for audio, the nature of bluetooth during quick capture wont allow it to connect fast enough to give you audio immediately. Youll probably always have to turn the camera on first to wait for the bluetooth to connect then begin recording. wifi seems to be the only way fast enough to get that quick connection you seek.

Good to ‘see’ the mic adapter works with the DJI wireless mic (It does right?)-not so with the One RS mic adapter. The remote is sweet! Can it control more than one camera simultaneously? I have the X3, One RS and controlling both with the GPS remote is clunky at best.
I wonder if a USB-C Lav Mic would be compatible and useful? Also, if you have the Insta 360 and add the Ace Pro, can you trigger both with the same remote (multicam control)?
Looking forward to the indepth review. Does the mic still require adaptors? I'd love for someone to put a mic jack on one or at least make it so you don't need adaptors. I'd also be ok with a media mod type thing like gopro because that makes it simple. No one even retains water resistance since the door has to be open for the USB. Does the "future of action cameras" have a USB C port to connect a lavalier microphone directly and then place the cable in the helmet in the chin area? If so, how is the sound? Because attaching another bulky receiver from DJI (which increases the weight and is very expensive) can't be the solution to bridge 15cm to the chin in the helmet? If not, then it is more likely to be the past of action cameras. :)
It has a USB C port to connect the mic adapter and any mic that has a 3.5mm port. Using the Purple Panda Mic sounds the same as the DJI mic, i just used the DJI mic because it's much quicker to set up
Is it stable like go pro while riding? One more question to ask, because of the magnet mount system will it stick to to chin mount while moto vlogging? Or we need to have more precautions while riding? Although very good review and beautiful recordings❤
A GoPro copy with a vulnerable folding screen and a non replaceable lens guard as an action cam... What a great enginering... One of the main complaints about the X3 for example, is the vulnerability due to the non replaceable lens covers. And then they come up with this. Not that Gopro nor DJI are perfect...
The foldable screen is actually really handy. But yea i know what you mean about the lens guards. They're offering free lens guard replacement for free to all users
@@MotoFeelz Yes, I've read that too. But it's not a verry practical solution. Not for Insta360 and not for the consumer. Replacing the lens guard means the camera needs to be send in. And that you will be temporarily without it. And then there're 2 options: - They will replace the lenscover, so it will even take longer until receive it back. - The will send a refurbished cam as a repplacement. It's verry unlikely they will send a band new cam on just lens replacement. And it will be verry annoying when you're a person which is super careful with the camera. Always took great care of it and you send it in as an almost brand new camera without any user marks or damages. And then receiving back an altered camera (dismanteling probably is just not a case of just releasing a few screws due too the IP-rating as also is the case on the Hero's or Osmo Actions) with possible unnecessary damage. Or there's a chance of receiving a clearly used refurbished cam (had this myself with the Hero11, sending in an almost brand new cam and getting another refurbished one back with slight usermarks). So for both parties would it had been more convenient, cheaper, faster and easier if lenscovers were just replaceable as on GoPro and DJI. I believe GoPro made the same mistake by returning to a fixed lens guard on the Hero 7 or 8. But they got a lot of criticism about that back then. And they got back to it on the following release. So I think it's even dumber to add a non replaceable lenscover on a Gopro lookalike action cam in 2023. Even when their own X3 had the same complaints.

Have you tried to Bluetooth it to a cardo or sena headset for audio? Curious about the audio quality.

Yes absolutely!
Pros and cons, smaller FOV will more correctly represent road elevations, which is a problem on action cameras.

Can you change the lens cover, or is the camera trashed if hit by a stone for example?

Youll probably always have to turn the camera on first to wait for the bluetooth to connect then begin recording. wifi seems to be the only way fast enough to get that quick connection you seek.

Good to ‘see’ the mic adapter works with the DJI wireless mic (It does right?)-not so with the One RS mic adapter.
The remote is sweet! Can it control more than one camera simultaneously? I have the X3, One RS and controlling both with the GPS remote is clunky at best.
Yes the adapter works with the DJI mic, the remote can control more than one camera soon!
The key question is if it overheats in the summer or freezes in the winter. If not, there’s no reason to not buy this cam.

Not sure about multi cam control but you’ll be able to connect the different insta360 cameras. Let’s see!

Looking forward to the indepth review. Does the mic still require adaptors? I'd love for someone to put a mic jack on one or at least make it so you don't need adaptors. I'd also be ok with a media mod type thing like gopro because that makes it simple. No one even retains water resistance since the door has to be open for the USB. Don't understand why no one can get it right

And want to film mostly in 9:16 for insta reels, but would also like to use it for youtube vids, so one recording that i can use on 2 platforms. What cam and what settings would you recommend? Love the idea of the gopro and insta app for easy editing.

Does the "future of action cameras" have a USB C port to connect a lavalier microphone directly and then place the cable in the helmet in the chin area? If so, how is the sound? Because attaching another bulky receiver from DJI (which increases the weight and is very expensive) can't be the solution to bridge 15cm to the chin in the helmet? If not, then it is more likely to be the past of action cameras. :)
It has a USB C port to connect the mic adapter and any mic that has a 3.5mm port. Using the Purple Panda Mic sounds the same as the DJI mic, i just used the DJI mic because it's much quicker to set up

A GoPro copy with a vulnerable folding screen and a non replaceable lens guard as an action cam... What a great enginering...
One of the main complaints about the X3 for example, is the vulnerability due to the non replaceable lens covers. And then they come up with this.
Not that Gopro nor DJI are perfect...
The foldable screen is actually really handy. But yea i know what you mean about the lens guards. They're offering free lens guard replacement for free to all users
@@MotoFeelz Yes, I've read that too. But it's not a verry practical solution. Not for Insta360 and not for the consumer.
Replacing the lens guard means the camera needs to be send in. And that you will be temporarily without it.
And then there're 2 options:
- They will replace the lenscover, so it will even take longer until receive it back.
- The will send a refurbished cam as a repplacement.
It's verry unlikely they will send a band new cam on just lens replacement. And it will be verry annoying when you're a person which is super careful with the camera. Always took great care of it and you send it in as an almost brand new camera without any user marks or damages.
And then receiving back an altered camera (dismanteling probably is just not a case of just releasing a few screws due too the IP-rating as also is the case on the Hero's or Osmo Actions) with possible unnecessary damage. Or there's a chance of receiving a clearly used refurbished cam (had this myself with the Hero11, sending in an almost brand new cam and getting another refurbished one back with slight usermarks).
So for both parties would it had been more convenient, cheaper, faster and easier if lenscovers were just replaceable as on GoPro and DJI.
I believe GoPro made the same mistake by returning to a fixed lens guard on the Hero 7 or 8. But they got a lot of criticism about that back then. And they got back to it on the following release. So I think it's even dumber to add a non replaceable lenscover on a Gopro lookalike action cam in 2023.
Even when their own X3 had the same complaints.
