I agree. I've mentioned the 'butterfly tax' on Benchmade knives several times in my videos. I think with the amount of good, affordable knife brands out there now, that brands like Spyderco and Benchmade have lots of cheaper, good quality competition and it wouldn't surprise me if people opt for a Kizer or a Civivi (to name but two) instead.
I've bought quite a few fakes, and then gone on to buy the legit version about 75% of the time. Whether it's a bug or a feature is dependent on world view, but this is capitalism functioning as intended.
I have a problem with Spyderco/Benchmade etc charging 10x what a knife costs to actually produce. It is a tool not jewelry.

In most cases, you pay for the brand and not for the actual item purchased.
