This was great, I'm kinda the opposite of the "Only listens to old stuff" guy. I love Dissection and Emperor, and Satyricon is pretty cool, but I primarily listen to modern black metal. Spectral Wound, Stormkeep, Wolves In The Throne Room, Night Crowned, and Suffering Hour all released banger albums last year if y'all want some suggestions!

I've always liked blackened influence, but it took me a while to understand the genre itself. But yes, that album is absolutely fantastic, definitely one I will return to often!
Wolves in the Throne Room is for sure one of my favourite bands. This might be an unpopular opinion but I always thought black metal is at its best when combined with other sounds and genres, because it makes it more unpredictable and interesting while also having the rawness that I like from black metal. Of course I still love straight up black metal and listen to it all the time, but black metal combined with other things has gotta be my favourite.
My friends would make three more categories; - The poser; wears a lot of nittens and leathers with corpse paint, like immortal. - The only listen to second wave black, they are the only trve cvlt - BURZUM is the best if you ask me ( talks about filosofem as the only thing, and paganism, a little political)

@Super Sharp Shooter the n*zis have spread like a plague here (despite how ironic that is). many bands from post-soviet countries here in eastern europe are ns or just sketchy overall, plus usually when you hear about bands from those places they're ns/sketchy. when you hear poland you might think mgla or plaga. when you hear ukraine you might think nokturnal mortum or drudkh. so on and so forth.
@Super Sharp Shooter that's the point! BM scene in Ukraine purely targeted against Russians (and majority of bankers ;-) ). So it can be called ultra-nationalists but not NZi and not racist. So, You can visit like Khors, White Ward, NO, 1914, Hell:on, Sectorial or Nokturnal Mortum and slam in safe but there is some little exceptions (m8l8th) where some really racist can make problem.
I view myself as a listener type fan for black metal rather than a hardcore obsessed fan. I will admit, extreme metal is therapeutic to listen to than anything on mainstream radio.
I really love this channel. And /i don't even listen to Black Metal (Up until a few months ago, I didn't even realise that Celtic Frost was the best metal band of all time, and my favourite). Funny, I remember buying a ticket to a 'black metal' concert back in 1995, expecting something like Venom, Possessed or (early) Sodom. The kind of stuff I used to listen to as a teenager about 10 years earlier. Headliner was Marduk, goosebumps. Thought black metal had died out, but actually was pleasantly surprised it not only revived, but this new wave of BM had become even more extreme than the music I was listening to at the time (extreme death, grind, etc.). It would become my favourite style of music for the next decade and still listening the stuff like old Dark Funeral, Marduk & Immortal albums from time to time. 🤟😉
There's also that one avantgarde black metal fan that you'll find discussing the references and intricacies of minute 13 of a song called "-1" while being stoned as fuck.
