  • HI all,
    Whilst installing some new speaker into the front of the Pajero, I figured I'd capture the process of removing the front door trim as I've seen the question asked many many times.
    The instruction on door trim removal starts at around the 2 minute mark, if that's what you're after.
    Also, check out this link which will take you to an online workshop manual

    Jesus! That door handle surround advice was gold. I was forever trying to pry the 2 fingers down, rather than pushing it out like you did. Thank you sir!!

      haha welcome. Mind you, it took getting the first door off, figuring out how it worked and then offering up the advice after testing the theory on door 2 :)

    Hi dm... just did my 2018 NX and one key difference was the switch panels. They are a single molding and can't be pried out. You have to remove the door panel, pop out the puddle light and pull the plug out of the swirch panel which is screwed in from the inside. Another useful tip is about the window seal. You probably know this but it is impossible to get the door panel back in place if you inadvertantly remove the window seal from it and put the seal back in to the door by itself. The seal has to slide on to the panel and then reinstall the whole thing as a unit. Tks for the guide, a great help.

    im so glad you've put this up. i was told by an installer that they needed specially made spacers to make after market speakers fit lol

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  5 лет назад

      There was about 4 small washers at the top 2 screws as spacers but I'd say you could get away without them. I just left them there from the previous owners install. These were 6.5 inch speakers and as you can see, fit no problems. I was concerned about mounting depth but the ones that came out were much deeper and had no issues. Seems old mate is telling you find 😁
      I think 6x9 fit over the back, so will be having a crack at those later on.

    Oh and I put some pioneer splits in. The tweeters fitted into the original brackets (yay), and the 6.5s fitted using the supplied adapter plate. I had to use a dremel to cut away the plastic shroud from the door panel as the supplied plate and speaker assembly protruded a bit more than the originals. The pioneers are a653ch model from Autobarn. They don't have a separate xover box but have an induction coil on the bass and a capacitor on the supplied wiring looms to provide low pass and high pass filters. Im still using the original head which has android auto and apple carplay as standard in the nx. Sound is way better. As I understand it, upgrading the speakers is the most cost effective way of improving your sound. The standard units are junk and are the major cause of poor sound quality. Cheers

    Hi mate I saw your video on the jaycar portable antenna back from 2013 and you mentioned if anybody had ideas for a portable antenna setup. Have you ever heard of being able to capture live weather images from NOAA/METEOR satellites ? You can use a double cross antenna to capture signals

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  5 лет назад

      I have heard of it but I'm a bit embarrassed to say I've not ever done any satellite work. I've listened to the voice ones but am yet to make a contact.
      I know some guys who are interested and do some of the quick scan stuff but I've not tried that either.
      I have seen the crossed yagi set ups and they seem to work well for bird work and makes it easier from a polarisation perspective. I should try it when I'm out camping and out of range of the usual repeaters. Thanks for the motivation

    No need to replace the existing speakers unless you have the old model NS 2006 in which case replace stock radio with Android touchscreen 9" display. The older models had the nice blue display on the console dash cluster and info display instead of the newer red display which wasn't as nice as the former blue.

  • @mannydog69

    Hi DenMonkey, great vid, thanks for sharing your know-how.
    Wondering if you can help me with my Pajero. Changed the head unit over from and Eonon which is not standard, needless to say the harness ISO was in a real mess, but I did my best to connect up the matching wiring. The unit was working while i was testing it but then at some point it stopped working, and not at what point as id disconnected the unit and started soldering the joints. Any way, I noticed that the door locks, interior lights including the audio all stopped working. I looked around some Pajero and Montero forus and some blokes suggest there is a fuse for those combined electrics (meaning 1 fuse for audio, door locks, interiors) as well as their own fuses - which appear to be normal. Some extra level safety fuse - ive read.
    Where those guys are describing this fuse is a 10A on the bottom row if the drivers side fuse box, but damned if I can find it.
    Im not even certains its that particular fuse or if Ive missed something during the rewiring.
    PS dont have an owners manual. Your opinion would be appreciated.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  4 года назад

      hmm interesting. I do believe the 'audio' and interior lights could be on the same fuse, not sure about the locks though, but they do odd things.
      I don't think its a fuse in your drivers panel though, I'm pretty sure what you're looking for is a fuse in the engine compartment, on the passenger side. do you know where that is ?

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  5 лет назад

      @@mattgordon585 no worries mate. My coax is up the passenger side of the windscreen.
      You can actually get 2 runs of thinner coax like rg58 up there but I was messing about with some rg213 to see if I got any improvements on the higher bands like uhf and scanner bands like 800mhz etc.
      With that in mind, the 58 fits into the space under the windscreen rubber very nicely on the pajero and pretty much disappears when pushed in their.
      the 213 however wont stay there and needs some sort of adhesive to keep it in the groove . it just does not bend into shape as well.
      Right now, I have some 58 underneath and the run of 213 on top.
      At the bottom of the windscreen on both sides, there is a small plastic piece that will come out with just one screw. Its part of the same trim that runs across the bottom of the windscreen under the wipers.
      if you remove that, you can run the coax up underneath it and make the install look a little cleaner.
      At the top it will need to go over the top of the windscreen rubber but you can then take it down under the groove/rubber on the roof that the roof racks fit into.
      I hope all that makes sense. let me know if you have any questions.
      cheers Brett

    Did you progress with rear speakers? Looking at the service diagrams the rear door does have an odd shaped speaker mount, the actual speaker in the diagram looks smaller than the front 6.5" speakers. In he very rear there is a 6"inch speaker in a 6x9 mount but I assume that is the optional rockford bass speaker??
    The Service Manual here shows the exploded diagrams: faq.out-club.ru/download/pajero_iv/maintenance/Service_Manual_2007/2007/index_M1.htm

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 года назад

      Ni I didn't. So no advice on this one. I had heard of people sticking in 6x9s and was going to try that. With my bed build though it covers the speakers, so there was no point for me.

      @@DENMONKEY Thanks for reply. It's been hard to find online so after my earlier message I was looking for a distraction from work so I grabbed my trim tool and removed the rear door trim. 6.5" is whats fitted. It is in a removable metal plate which if removed would open the space for potentially a 6x9 but you'd need to create a new plate I think as it doesn't look like a straight 6x9 drop in, it's an odd shape. Too hard lol. I just ordered 6.5" 2 way speakers which should slot straight in.
