Great video - I'm guessing you did that at a weekend - otherwise Sawyer's Hill would be full of traffic ! Great place to visit at weekends ... not so great during weekday rush hours !!
You managed to find a way around Barnes pond I didn't know. I know castlenau but haven't turned off right, I really don't don't like that steep junction on to priory lane. I think I may have wobbled there once and had to dismount. It's a bit steep for traffic lights I avoid it and just do Putney bridge, lower Richmond road & the carriage way down to the park and vets with the rabbits on my back ... We also stop at Barnes pond when coming back via mortlake. I didn't know where Beverly brook crossed to, I do have a photo of my bike on it as that was my end point & back through to rocks lane. But some of the roads could do with resurfacing if not all of them x
@@LondoncycleroutesI think it was when I started cycling about 4 years ago. I had a lil tern fold up my route was Albert Bridge to Putney pier and back north and south on pavements and parks, but then got my trek & could no longer do that, I now like flat straight roads. But that junction was too scary for me at the time. Maybe I tried to dismount, something happened on that corner, busy, incline, wobble 😬😬😬 whatever it was I've gone the other way since. I don't especially care for the hill over the bridge I hate the speed bumps! The trees are overgrown so you can't go around, there are usually cars behind annoyed at a girl trying to cycle uphill with rabbits and I don't like the bumps. But I find that bit the worst bit of the journey. I wish the council would speak to people like me I can say which bits are easy and those terrifying. The swing around from Putney bridge lights around is my favourite bit and tbh probably extra relief I managed to switch lanes on the bridge x
*where Marc Bolan died is the horrible bit. I have looked at trying to cut through to upper Richmond road but I've never gone up there and I looked and there are stairs... Putney bridge to the vale is far too steep. So just have to go over the hill 😬 x
@@Londoncycleroutes the section outside Kensington Olympia often has cars parked in the cycle lane at weekends. i keep asking H&F to install more bollards - if more of us ask, maybe they will eventually add in a few extra!
This is the best account ever! Saved most of them on Komoot! Would love to see a route from North Greenwich to Stratford/Hackney Wick. I’ve experimented with the Greenwich foot tunnel and my favourite free-in-the-mornings cable car. But still struggling to find the good balance between safe and quick
Glad you like it! I’ll see what I can do on that - I’ve avoided doing Greenwich foot tunnel routes so far as I don’t like putting dismounts in but a lot of people seem to want to go that way. Really we need a cycle bridge!
Excellent route, and proof that more 'scenic' routes can also be the most direct. I've just been exploring 'Priory Lane' on Google Street View. Detail is surprisingly good to analyse 'what's wrong' with the Priory Lane path. As a Brit/Cdn dual, more used to being on the right side of roads and paths, the obvious danger is multiplied by opposing traffic passing you on both sides. In my case, even wishing to avoid being on the street as much as possible if visiting, I'd use the street in that instance, purely for the dictum that when unsure, you can always move or go slower on the left of your direction of travel. On the bike path? That option isn't there. The intuitive aspect is inverted. That's an incredible route! But as stated, I'd rather walk than use the cycle path as is, or use the road on that section of Priory Lane. ("Priority" Lane?) That being said, I'm still studying the map and reviewing that stretch. First observation: Most pedestrians are using the right side of the shared path. That would indicate to me the relatively safer choice if I were to walk my bike along there. @11:00 the wrong side cyclist oncoming (he corrects, but why would he be on that side to begin with? @11:05, the completely legally correct oncoming motorbike. He was fully controlled, but there's absolutely nothing to stop a collision if either he or you moves off-course a few inches. The route is so perfect, but the infrastructure so in need of a rethink. Even the bollards at intersections are in terrible places. Gotta tell you though, I really enjoyed that, 'Priority' Lane's pitfalls besides.
Yes I totally sympathise re priory lane and I think you’re probably in the majority with people who ride down there! I hope the council takes a look at fixing it
Thanks that’s really useful intel, I wasn’t sure when it would reopen! I’ll take it with a pinch of salt as always with timings but good to know what the target is!
just subscribed and watched old vid where you travel down the bike track in Shadwell my place of work to Limehouse. im doing the same in the summer but to Dorking from Bethnal green. its well doable i think and the route looks good to using the Garmin edge 1040
Thanks for posting this, I didn't know you could cycle over Hammersmith Bridge again. It was closed to vehicles in 1996 for quite a while and great for cycling and pedestrians, reopening just induced more traffic, why do it🤷♂
04:25 The Hammersmith Bridge is so nice, and it's nice to see cycle lanes on it. From Google Street view, I can see that there was a normal car traffic before. You're saying that the bridge may open to all traffic, all as in, even cars?
My route was always: send it straight down Fulham palace road, right onto the A205, left towards roehampton gate, if I was coming from Lewisham I'd send it straight through Peckham, Camberwell, left along the north bak after vauxhaull bridge, straight through fullam across Putney bridge. Let's see what this video suggests.
Well your route does look more direct, and is probably quicker as a result. Interesting that the Hammersmith square roundabout has cycle lanes now, went around it a lot going to white city, always quite unpleasant.
@@FandersonUfo I'm in TO too! We've had similarly unseasonably warm weather here as well as the UK, but I really miss the greenery they have through the winter. Not to mention their buds and shoots coming up already.
@@FandersonUfo That was my point. Even without the UK's unusually warm winter, you can get out cycling at least every other day. And London offers some great cycling with a short train or LUL ride with some plants green all winter. Almost all of my family are still there. Politics is poison, but the countryside is still supreme.
Fantastic work again.
Really looking forward to your updated Greenwich to London Bridge vid(s) using C4.
I wanted to go out this weekend and do it but my bike is in the shop and they’ve been taking their time!
This will be a good one :) If the weather is nice I'll be doing this route on Wednesday from Charlton to Camden for work
I'm looking forward to watching the new C4 route too.
I love seeing Hammersmith Bridge open to cycling in your videos!
It’s fantastic!

This was my old commute between Kingston and Gloucester Road. Only moved 6 months ago but already miss this so much!
That’s a great commute! I can see why you’d miss it
Great video! Hope Wandsworth and Kensington and Chelsea councils improve the route tho!
Thank you! Fortunately that bit of Hammersmith Road outside Olympia is Hammersmith and Fulham council and they’ve been reasonably cooperative!

That’s a good shout - lanes like this always have lots of spots for more wands but councils never seem to do it!
Fantastic as usual!
Thank you!

Hammersmith Bridge is closed again but according to the guy I spoke to there will reopen in November. You can still walk through with your bike.

It’s been hard to keep track of when it’s open! I hope we get it good for bikes long term
Even the worst bits are still better than what we have around here!
Sorry to hear that!
I still find it baffling how long it takes to get to Richmond Park (north of the river)! Cycling does seem like the best option!
There’s just not too many stations near it really! I look at open rail map and it’s just a big hole in the network. Buses aren’t great either

That’s the council’s intention very long term but it’s basically not going to happen as far as anyone in the know seems to think

Yeah there’s been a lot of changes around that area recently, def worth having another look at any routes through there really!
a wheelbarrow full of rocks always has right of way
