Start Time: 6:00pm
Louisiana Superdome
“The game was played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 25, 1981, five days after the Iran hostage crisis ended. The game was thus held under patriotic fervor, as the pregame ceremonies honored the end of the crisis.
The Raiders were making their third Super Bowl appearance after posting an 11-5 regular season record, but losing a tiebreaker to the AFC West division winner San Diego Chargers. Oakland then advanced to the Super Bowl with playoff victories over the Houston Oilers, Cleveland Browns, and San Diego. The Eagles were making their first Super Bowl appearance after posting a 12-4 regular season record and postseason victories over the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders became the first wild card playoff team to win a Super Bowl.”

They should have done an offensive and defensive MVP award. Both Jim Plunkett and Rod Martin were great in this game. They should have won co-MVPs
Should of been Co-MVP Martin and Plunkett
Most valuable players?
@@edwardfights4900 Yes, he's referring to the MVP Trophy. Martin had 3 very game changing INT's outside of Plunkett having a very nice game. Should of been Co-MVP's , just like how it happened in Super Bowl XII
@@nymike06 Reggie Kinlaw, Dave Pear, Cliff Branch, Jim Plunkett, and Rod Martin all had the best games of their careers up that point. They all could have been the MVP. Dave Pear and Reggie Kinlaw destroyed the Eagles OL.
@@randyhanson4973 In my humble opinion, Martin should got MVP or at least Co-MVP with Plunkett. Martin had 3 huge INT's that changed the game. 3 in one game and that being the Super Bowl is legendary.
Amazing Cliff Branch is not in the HOF. An all time clutch WR and ultimate Bomb Burner. RIP. Nothing better than hearing the voice of a young Dick Endberg.
Branch could have been mvp of this or xviii. My favorite all time raider. My 49th year.as a fan
How Branch was left off the 1970s All-Decade team, while lesser receivers, such as Drew Pearson, were voted on it is still beyond me.
@@gregford2103 Pearson was good, Branch was great.
Branch is in the HOF
@@user-hh5rn4jz6o Plunkett's game was a huge redemption of his early, disappointing career. This game was probably the biggest of his life, and he deserved the MVP. --BUT!--Rod Martin deserved it more. Martin is the most underrated Raider ever, and one of the defensive BEASTS of the 1980s that was somehow forgotten. ROD MARTIN.
The 1980 Oakland Raiders The First NFL Wild Card Playoffs Team To Win The Super Bowl!!!
Love the Eagles Uniforms!!!
Jan 25th, 1981. Oakland 27 Eagles 10. This was at the time the greatest day of my life. 2 week earlier was the greatest day when Oakland beat San Diego 34-27. The greatest day before that was when Oakland beat Cleveland 14-12 thanks to the mistake by the lake. The greatest day of my life before that was Oakland beating Houston 27-7. Lester Hayes capped it off with an interception for a TD off Stabler. The greatest day before that was when I was 9 years old on Jan 9th 1977 when the Raiders finally won the big one vs Minnesota 32-14. The greatest day of my life before that occurred 2 weeks earlier when the Raiders destroyed the Steelers 24-7 and the greatest day of my life before that was one week earlier when Oakland was losing 21-10 late in the 3rd Quarter to NE who had was the only team to beat the Raiders that season 48-17. But the Raiders beat NE in an epic comeback with my hero Stabler scoring with 10 seconds left. 24-21 Raiders. The greatest day of my life before that occurred on Saturday Dec 21, 1974. I was 6 years old but I remember it like yesterday. The Sea of Hands game. I remember crying at halftime when the the Raiders were losing and I remember crying after Benny Malone scored with 2 min left in the game to give the Dolphins a 26-21 lead. What happened after that changed my life forever. Oakland 28 Miami 26. From that moment on I was destined to be a Raider. Jan 8th, 1984 was one of the greatest days of my life. I was 15 years old and I drove with some older Raiders fans from Burlington WA to the LA to watch the Raiders beat Seattle 30-14 in the AFC Championship game. Jan 22, 1984 was the greatest of all days. The underdog Raiders destroyed what many people believed to be the greatest team ever. That would be the 4 point favorite Washington Redskins who had beaten the Raiders earlier in the season 37-35. It was never even close. The Raiders destroyed Washington 38-9 in what was the most lopsided Super Bowl ever up to that time. It was also the end of an incredible Raider run that lasted 21 years spanning 3 decades. From 1963-1983. During that time the Raiders played in 11 of the first 18 AFC/AFL championship games. However the greatest day of my life occurred in Feb 2007. That was when I was hired as an assistant coach by the Raiders. Then in January of 2009. I had by far the greatest day of my life. On a Monday night I met with Al Davis one on one. It was supposed to be a 15 minute meeting. Every coach who had met with Mr Davis was let go. I was the very last coach on his schedule and I knew I only had 15 minutes to save my job. 3 hours later we were still meeting as Mr Davis had me teach him his Raiders defense back to him and then he had me rank the Roster 1 through 53. After that we talked about the Raiders history and then it was like an episode straight out of Seinfeld as Mr Davis said “My God Kid you know my team better than I do, what am I paying you”. I told him not much & he said “Tomorrow morning you will have a new contract sitting on your desk”. If you want to hear the rest of the story let me know.
Incredible story....Similar age to me and similar great memories....
LOL
HOW IS CLIFF BRANCH NOT in the hall of fame??????
As a die hard Steeler fan for 41 years I think it's unfair that one of the classiest guys to ever play Football is not in the hall of fame he is the only Raider to win all 3 super Bowls with them
@@gammal12 👍 However, Dave Dalby, Ray Guy, Ted Hendricks, and Henry Lawrence also played on all three Raider championship teams.
He is tho?
Tom Flores in the Hall of Fame
And Dick Vermeil also
Rod Martin should have got the MVP
or Co MVP for sure.
3 picks would normally be an MVP but Plunkett deserved it.
Both Plunkett and Martin deserved it
Martin should have been at least co mvp if not mvp by himself
Ted Hendricks blocking a field goal in this Superbowl. That was a huge play for the Raiders
Absolutely
It was huge!
Plunkett was my favorite qb back then
The autumn 🍂 wind
The 80 Raiders had one of the greatest Defenses in NFL History. Lester Hayes was the NFL Defensive player of the year. Ted Hendricks was 2nd in voting
First time actually watching some game footage, thanks.
3 int’s ,a touchdown back on a penalty a blocked field goal and the eagles should have packed up and went home in the 3rd quarter. So disappointing to watch as a kid. They played so well to get there then just played the way they did when they were a 500 ball club.
This was a great game.
This Super bowl and the one after that I can’t find full games for
Philadelphia had actually beaten Oakland at home in the regular season in 1980 10-7. The story goes that Eagles coach Dick Vermeil was a "taskmaster" and put the Eagles players through cruelling practices and game preparations all year long while Tom Flores of the Raiders ran a more relaxed easy-going style. In the end in Super Bowl XV the Eagles simply ran out of "gas" and were beaten by a well-rested Oakland team. The Raider owner Al Davis was feuding at that time with NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle over his plans to move the Raiders from Oakland to the LA Coliseum in Los Angeles. After the game in the dressing room, Raider players were all holding Polaroid cameras snapping pictures of Davis shaking hands with Rozelle when he was presented the Vince Lombardi trophy as the irony was something they wanted to capture for posterity.
What a day for Martin
@Alex Carter
Thank you. Making 3 interceptions during the regular season is impressive for any defensive player. How does Rod Martin snag 3 picks in the Super Bowl and not be the most valuable player? Ans. Bias
give Plunkett some credit. He threw 3 tds against a good Eagles defense. They should have split it if you ask me
I have wondered that for years! 3 picks in a Super Bowl and they don't give him the MVP? It's a travesty
@@danielboom72 Plunkett had 3 touchdown passes. Give him credit
@@jjb1908 I'm not taking anything away from Plunkett. Without him, they don't even get to the super bowl. But that game on that day, Rod Martin deserves the MVP.
@@danielboom72 I still think Plunkett deserved it. Rod Martin didn't need to do anything for those picks. Ron Jawarski threw it right to him
They got the WRONG MVP. Rod Martin should of got it.
Branch had a great game as well
I always thought they should have had co-MVPs (Plunkett Martin) like they did in SB XII (R. White Martin)
@@JayDogTitan-he6wo I respectfully disagree. 3 picks and a huge fumble recovery does it for me. Plunkett will have to settle for being the greatest Raider QB.
Na'ah...his first INT was big. But the Raiders were up 21-3 and 27-10 with his last two picks. Plunkett made the plays to put them in position.
@@gerrypellissier9551 The Snake was the Raiders Greatest QB I know Jim won 2 Superbowls but Snake was better
I forgot how awesome Rod Martin was. I was a kid playing little league football and I remember how bad a@@ he was. Tall lanky.. but would knock your helmet off. Well I am an old man redskins fan so I remember well. Super Bowl 18. What a bad day for DC
Branch Branch God Branch
The Raiders made some blocking adjustments THEY HELD ON EVERY PLAY.
still bitter
@@laryjohnson5736 Yeah they didn't use Raider rule #1.
Very good work. Fun to watch after watching NFL films official highlight video. This is almost a verbatim recreation, just on tape without John Facenda (but still just as good)
the raiders weremuch better than philly they proved it
12 tackles and 3 interceptions.........Rod Martin definitely should've won MVP.
Jfc if that 1st Jaworski to Parker TD had stood, history might've had a diff outcome. What couldve been... Thanks alot for the false start Carmichael!
Evidently Carmichael thought they were implementing Canadian Football League rules for the game. Parker should have had two touchdowns, totally toasted the Raider corner when Jaws overthrew him in the end zone later.
Raiders still would have won.
2:30 KENNY KING MUSTVE RAN A LOW 4.3 OR BETTER HE IS FLYING LIKE BO AND IM AN EXPERT ON SPEED. I MEAN BRANCH WHO WAS THE FASTEST EVR ARE YOU KIDDING ME THE SPEED ON THIS TEAM WAS CRAZYYYY!!!!
7:50
Rod Martin should have shared the MVP.
Ron Jaworsky the Best...the Oakland Raiders not mercy win
typical eagles choking a winnable game.
I still think it's a shame that they play so many Super Bowls in that dark, ugly cave of a stadium.
Lol 😆 and the Silverdome in Detroit
It was the NFL's best stadium at the time.
& HOLLYWOOD MADE A MOVIE ABOUT THE SUPER BOWL 15# LOSERS PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. THE MOVIE WAS ABOUT HOW AN AVERAGE JOE FROM OFF THE STREETS TRIED OUT TO MAKE THE EAGLES FOOTBALL TEAM & HE MADE IT ON SPECIAL TEAMS, THE DUDE'S NAME IS VINCE SO THE MOVIE CALLED INVINCIBLE STARRING MARK WAHLBERG PLAYING THE ROLE OF VINCE. IN MY OPINION HOLLYWOOD SHOULD HAVE MADE A VIDEO ABOUT JIM PLUNKETT QUATERBACK FOR THE RAIDERS GOES FROM FIRST ROUND BUST!!! TO SUPER BOWL 15# MVP. & MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THE 1980 OAKLAND RAIDERS BECAME THE FIRST WILD CARD TEAM TO WIN THE NFL SUPER BOWL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. FUCK INVINCEABLE!!! RN4L!!! ☠️🏴☠️☠️
Eagles suck raider's suck 😂
The old days LOL
Thanks for the upload. I can’t find this Super Bowl in it’s entirety ANYWHERE!
I just uploaded the full game........ enjoy
