    All in the name of spreading the joy of Cardiacs and giving more exposure to the lyrics of Tim Smith & Co.... Not only for the wild pictures and feelings they conjour in your sparking mind, but also for the unconventional phrasing and placement of the lyrics against the music.

    I just came across this band for the first time today. OMFG. I was looking for a song with lots of key changes and someone suggested this one. I started out counting the key changes but eight minutes later, after being lifted to a higher plane of existence while covered with feces, I didn't care about key changes any more. My mind is totally blown.

      @@notabc1510 I discovered them LAST WEEK and got surprised of how great they were and it also hit me that how strangely they passed without ever anyone mentioning them and not knowing off them, also for me but no one I know ever brought them up. I’ve been listening to radio sessions, searching bootlegs, looking for odd bands at second hand stores and so on and so on. But I’m a bit chocked that this awesome band ever came up to my attention. My musical friends aren’t that supportive with my discovery, just one so far, but I mean I think a great band as this from the U.K. would been brought up at some point. Both musically and their lyrics are fenomenal in so many ways. Ok I’m stunned right now, but anyway... Come on! I am so glad this still can happen though! Crazy!

      @@danielonnerlov That's a very similar story to my discovery of Cardiacs too. I've only known about them for a about a year now, but quickly became obsessed and delved into the entire back catalogue and read all about them (check out the HISTORY section of the website. A very funny read! www.cardiacs.net/history/).
      Like you, I was also totally blown away by the fact that I could have missed this band! I've said it before, but it seemed so crazy to suddenly find this long running band that so perfectly matched my taste in unusual music, that it felt like I'd been living in a parallel universe where they didn't exist! haha. How is it possible to not hear about this band for all those years even when I was always on the look out for unusual and inventive music.

      @@notabc1510 Have you also experienced that people around you think that they are not any special kind while you like totally get overwhelmed by them. It makes me wonder what it is in their music that catches me. I’ve not listened today (had a stop) but their melodies is certainly stuck in my head. I think they’ve got this mysteriousness around them that also gets you going. They have a wide range of emotional states in their songs, they are rich in many ways, complicated, but harmonic. It’s like the first video I saw “tarred and feathered” they have this weirdness that is almost spooky but fun at the same time. It’s hard to put your finger on it. It’s complex and aggressive but also this typical British sound at some point, like almost like the Beatles.m but then again like queen or The Who on crack. I don’t know. It’s so rich I can’t believe they’ve just past my musical catalogue.

      @@danielonnerlov Yeah, I've definitely had similar reactions from people I've exposed to Cardiacs. A couple have got on board (but they definitely haven't become obsessed by them like me), but most bounce off it. I think there's definitely a certain type of music fan (music snob) who gets turned off by the sound of real joy in music. Their music has to be "serious" for it have any value. The idiots! haha.
      Having bits of Cardiacs tracks stuck in my head was also a part of my dive into their discography! I bought nearly all of it on BandCamp and binged my way through it. I kept waking in the morning with amazing fragments of the music dancing around my brain, and at this point I didn't know which track the fragments were from... so I had to search through my collection to find it! This happened alot! Ha.
      Like you said, the richness and complexity is what totally clicks with me. There's such a density of ideas in all of it! There really is some indefinable magic involved that totally connects with some people in a way that no other band ever has.
      You'll soon be at the phase of Cardiacs love where you'll be listening to another band and just have the nagging feeling in your head that you could be listening to Cardiacs instead! haha. Everything else feels under-developed and pedestrian in comparison.

    I’m so fascinated by Tim’s lyrics, they make absolutely no sense but they just feel right for some reason. Some of them are also really fun to say

    • @notabc1510
      @notabc1510  3 года назад +25

      When I started taking notice of Tim's lyrics I realised how effective they are at creating fantastic images in your mind's eye. They don't often seem to have literal meanings, but they get your visual brain firing on all cylinders, which is more than a lot of bands with "normal" lyrics can manage.
      I'm also a fan of word sounds too. Sometimes words just sound absolutely magical together if you disassociate the words from their meanings. By disregarding meanings, Tim was definitely able to create combination of words that create unique sounds and flows that would not be possible if you had to keep the logic of the words intact!

      Great knowledge. The generic description I put in all of these videos annoyingly chops of at the point where Tim Smith's name is mentioned unless you click "show more" where you'll see the description reads;
      "All in the name of spreading the joy of Cardiacs and giving more exposure to the lyrics of Tim Smith & Co"
      Ruddy RUclips! haha. I was aware that Tim didn't write all of the lyrics, but wasn't sure who else was involved and on which tracks... so just popped in the little "& Co" to cover my lack of knowledge!

      @Frank Camiola Bob Leith told me in person that he had written most of the lyrics to this song. Later, on Facebook, Jon Poole told me that Bob had written "95%" of these lyrics. So, there's that.
