      We should not have to read comments to find important and basic info in the video, like kind of glue, glue remover, etc…

    It was a joy to watch how you managed to fix such a difficult repair. Do you know, that the inner joint was glowed in the first place. I mean, that it might have been hot air welding.

      Thank you. This particular boat was at the time where Zodiac glued there boats together. Nothing on this one was welded. If it had been welded, that section would've never separated.

      @@gashopperinc I know something about airtracks for gymnastics and have patched a lot of them. The airtight types started 2006 and most of them were welded together and in most cases by electrical high frequency welding and a few hot air welding. But all of them got leaks at the joints at a high rate. After 2014 almost all manufacturers got them glued instead, and it solved the problem. Airtracs are typically deflated every day and folded together. Some gymnasts bounce on a joint in middle of the airtrack. So perhaps airtracks got more mechanical stress variations. Anyway the PVC gest briddle due to the welding process, so it cracks or slips in time at the joints. The typical max pressure is 1.5 PSI so it may be significantly lower than boats.

    Clark of Clark's Adventure RUclips channel describes a when all else fails solution - open up a seam and stuff an inflatable dunnage bag inside.

    Great video! How did you remove the old glue? What chemical did you use? What sander attachment on dremel?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 года назад +4

      MEK or aceton, 120 grit sandpaper, and course grit stone on the dremel is what i used. and of course, some elbow grease. lol

    Any idea how long the two part glue will last once opened?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  10 месяцев назад

      It depends in how you store the glue. But generally will last a year once opened. The biggest thing to watch for is the hardeners. Once they've completed hardened in the vials, then the glue is no good.

    Is there a quick way to know if your dealing with PVC or Hapalon from a visual or touch method?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 года назад +3

      PVC will have the same color both sides, hypalon will have color on one side & neoprene other side, neoprene is generally a darker gray/ black color. Will be doing a video in the future on the different types of fabric out there soon.

    I did a patch an a avon hypalon it didnt work i used 2 part glue how much glue do you use for a patch

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  Год назад +1

      I do a minimum 2 lightly coated layers each side and wait the suggested time between coats. Sometimes 3. Depending on the glue. Make sure you follow the temp and humidity guidelines for the glue also. Very humid weather (above 65%) while gluing, will cause premature glue failure. Very hot weather will cause the glue to flash quickly and will have to adjust waiting times, and to cold will freeze the glue and will have to heat it up. You have to find a happy medium when dealing with 2 part glue.

    hey Rib repair pro :), Is it stupid to put on cheap protection on rib boats whit like vaselinoil ? some say its very good,but some say its not good for pvc but hypalon can use it since stronger.. what do you think ? can pvc boat use cheap protection like vaselinoli for 10$ its looks very good on. i found out that to use pvc swimming pool glue is bang for the $ :)

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  Год назад +1

      To be honest, never heard of that before. Trial and error has been the biggest thing for me when it comes to repairs or doing anything to these boats.

  • @SouthernSierra56
    @SouthernSierra56 Год назад

    Should not put a patch over a seam. Pull seam tape off, rebond seam, later inflate and put seam tape on with tube fully inflated and non leaking. If it leaks before putting seam tape dow you have not done a proper bond. Do not bond with wet glue. Follow mfr instructions.

      overinflating or glue failure from age.

    Did a miss something in that lengthy video? You didn’t even show us the kind of glue and you even had the can on the wrong side AND you didn’t say a word about the kind of glue to use? If so, very poor video, if not please let me know what I missed, thanks.
